welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The Nightmare would catch the mutter and nod. “Then you understand.” Despite what he was, Rika was not as bad as some assumed Nightmares to be. In fact, he was kind of an odd ball in the group. He didn’t want to start things to get his food and he much rather help than harm. Perhaps it was the way he was brought up, but he hated seeing someone suffering even if it was free food waiting for him to soak up. A temptation that was quite strong with so much negative energy around now, but he resisted it as he kept his focus on the other in front of him.
His eyes would drift to the other and see the grimace when he saw the tree image. Perhaps much like him that image also resonated with the other. Curiouser and curiouser. Maybe they were similar in a way. A thought, but one that could not be proven without investigation. Ones the Nightmare did not wish to do now.
When the other offered his hand and name, the Nightmare would easily move forward to grasp the hand the action well practiced, but never truly used until now. “Nice to meet you, Yuuki,” he would say his voice back to being soft and rather gentle as he released the other’s hand after a while. Staying where he was, his soft smile would turn into a frown as he heard the next set of words to escape the other’s mouth more thankful than surprised the other decided to share. Even if it was a little with him.
“What did you find out that was so bad?” he would ask, his tone remaining gentle and open. There was no judgement here. Just a more or less safe space the other could talk in if he wanted to.

Ozaki was a little surprised when Rika jumped right to using his first name. A little familiar already, wasn’t he? Well. Not everyone followed that social protocol when it came to first names- that being only those you were quite close with called you by that. But if the nightmare was going to go ahead and go with first name to start, Ozaki wouldn’t stop him. He’d just take a similar approach with him as well.
The vampire drew his fingers through his mussed up hair as the Dreamweaver followed up with another question. He would prefer not spreading such personal information around… Perhaps he could continue to be vague. As he was now, he wasn’t necessarily safe… Was he?
But talking about it could make him more angry. “I should get going home. I really can’t go into the details…” Ozaki muttered as he opened his umbrella and started walking away.

It was true the Nightmare had never been trained in any fashion when it came to addressing people by certain names, so he would have no idea that using a first name was a bit too familiar to use the first time around unless told…And it didn’t seem like he was being corrected, so the creature would stick to this way of addressing the other.
Speaking of addressing, the other seemed to contemplate something before deciding that it was time to go. At first Rika would say nothing as he watched the other begin to walk away, but then…
“What is it that you are running from? What is hunting you?” a voice would say in a soft calm way, though Rika’s lips never moved and the voice would only be heard by the other. While the Nightmare wasn’t sure what was happening, he was pretty sure based on behavior this one was trying to hide from something, but what was the question.

Ozaki kept walking away, opening his umbrella and perching it on his shoulder at an angle that would protect him from the sunlight streaming in from the windows. A pang of surprise hit him when the Nightmare deduced, correctly, that it was a matter of who was hunting him.
Mostly. Though it was also a matter of who he was to hunt soon. And why. So many reasons why he should have killed him years ago. Reasons for himself. But also reasons that went beyond him. He may have done his best to reduce the number of vampires his father was able to kill… But there were bound to be those that slipped through his fingers to prevent. Particularly any his father may have committed during the daylight hours.
A low belly scum like him wouldn’t hesitate to kill a vampire when they had no where else to run.
“That’s none of your business.” Ozaki said in as calm of a voice as he could manage.
… He wasn’t fooling the present company. He knew that, even if he was facing away from the person he was talking to. Even if he was looking down and away from anyone so they couldn’t see the murder and rage in his eyes. Turning his eyes to a hard steel that resembled his father’s to a tee in this hate ridden state. He hated that. Hated that he was born to such a man. Hated that he bore any resemblance at all. He hated his father. And he hated himself for not doing anything sooner about him.
Damn these mood swings… Even if he had been calm a moment ago, he was easily able to change that within a moment. Just a moment of letting his thoughts trail too far in one direction. Rika was right. He was playing a dangerous game, holding onto such rage could turn him monstrous. Even now he was having to take calming breaths and rubbing the back of his head to try and settle himself down. He had to remain calm. He couldn’t go berserk here.
The target of his rage wasn’t even here anyways. He wouldn't go berserk. He had it under perfect control.

“And yet is now,” the voice would say as the Nightmare watched the other try to attempt to flee, that spicy taste of anger flooding the air once more from the other. “Tell me, how much of a monster are you willing to become Yuuki before you simply face the truth or let someone help you?” the voice would ask softly. As the voice spoke a strange being would rise from the floor in the path way of the one trying to escape. A being that would watch the other with red eyes full of curiosity, but more than that with a familiar malice and mischief that the vampire would’ve recognized from the first encounter he had with the nightmare. The only thing different, this time was that he wasn’t simply staring at the eyes anymore, he was staring at an actual thing. The voice would continue unphased by this being's appearance. It was used to it. “Would you like to become us?”

Dreamweavers were creatures that were easily able to change their form at a mere whim. Their forms were not fully real, and thus could be anything they wanted them to be. He knew much about Dreamweavers due to his through research into them. Ozaki stopped in his tracks, right hand drawing toward one of the pouches that held his darts.
He was wary of the Dreamweaver’s ability to knock him out and simply enter his dreams… And was ready to try and knock them out if they started to try. There was also the fact he could simply dose himself with a sedative to make himself calm down. That would remove the danger he presented. Though it wouldn’t remove the curiosity they had in him. But he would rather not be seen dosing up while at his place of work.
Would you rather be seen tearing out a student’s throat?
He drew out two darts from his pouch, using just a touch of slight of hand to palm the second, making it look like he had only drawn out one. The answer was simple then. Just don’t be seen.
The dart palmed in his hand shifted from vampiric blood to a sedative, which he then stabbed into the base of his palm. It would take time for that to take proper effect… As slow as his heart rate was and all. It would have been better to get into his neck. A quicker effect… But that was not something that could be easily hidden.
It’d take a couple of minutes. During which he just had to keep from loosing it. “I won’t become like… I won’t.” He wouldn’t become a monster. He had ways of handling himself. “I can face the truth just fine.” He growled through gritted teeth, knowing those words were a lie the moment he spoke them.
He had faced more truth than he could bare in the past couple of weeks. When other people had problems he tried to get them to talk about it. Because that was helpful… But he didn’t want to share this. He didn’t want them to know. But this one knew. It could sense the overwhelming rage burning inside him. Rage that was just dying for an outlet. And one was standing right in his path…
No no no. They already know. They already feel it. You can’t hide this from them. Even if you wanted to, you can’t fool them. You’re this close… Would talking really help against a force this massive? “I am facing the truth though… Its just too much.” They already knew how he was feeling.

Nightmares were indeed strange beings capable of many things, making one wonder who would win in a battle against such a strange thing. Would it be the thing composed of something not bound to this world’s rules? Or would it be the one bound to Reality’s rules? It was hard to say considering both parties could perform feats that differed greatly from what a more simple creature or human could do. It would certainly be interesting to see the results of such a battle, but would they unfold here? It was hard to say as red eyes saw the dart that was pulled by the other, held in a position as if he wanted to throw it. The eyes would narrow as they trailed back up to meet the angered vampire’s with an icy coldness. It didn’t know what was in that dart or what it did, but that didn’t matter. It was the fact the other was now a presenting himself as a threat to itself that mattered. There was a low growl from the creature, this one not within the other’s head. It was a real warning. "Do you want to go there, little moth?" the voice was quiet and dangerous and yet at the same time one that didn't seem to want to harm despite the being' aura and strange behavior. This thing...whatever it was. It was being held back by something. The voice that spoke different than the physical thing. A contradiction that suggested there was more at play here than met the eye. Regardless of the warning or whatever was happening for that matter, the creature would make no move to harm the other as its feather’s ruffled in agitation as the voice spoke again. “You say that, but how can you be sure your rage won’t drive you to become something like this? Or worse?” Would he sink into it if the creature pushed onward? Or would something else happen? It wanted to know the answers, but at the same time maybe it wanted something more than that, but what? The creature would shimmer like a mirage a bit as it looked off to the side, its eyes closing as it shook its head as it got the growl and gritted tooth response from the other. “We tell ourselves that. Thinking it will protect others from our hells, but in the end that lie gets us in more trouble than we can bear.” It would shake its head again and reopened its eyes locking red ones on him, its air changing slightly to something more calm despite the form of the beast remaining before him. The creature would tilted its head at the man. “What makes it so heavy?” The creature would ask, the voice coming from its mouth this time as it watched him with eyes that had gone from pure red to ones with swirls of gold in them. It looked like Rika was in control of the monster this time. In any case, the mix of red and gold spirals was strange and perhaps disorienting to behold, but at the same time they had a soothing quality in them. One that beckoned one to relax more so than sleep. Would it work? Who knew, but the Nightmare had to try something in this rather dodgy situation. ___________________________________________________________________________________ OOC: The Beast Looks Like this: Here

It reacted to the dart as it should have, as a weapon. It was one held solely in self defense, but still a weapon. This Dreamweaver before him… He knew he should not simply judge it on its species. But it was acting a tad strange. He could not tell of the fully of the duality within. There was something shifting in the being before him. Potentially something mimicking the more hunger based side of Nightmares…
He had said something about forgetting himself. And kept referring to itself when talking about loosing oneself. This form.
Rika was sounding an awful lot like Sharaku right now. Talking about how trying to keep others out of one’s life to protect them could wind up worse down the road. That, combined with how he spoke of how if the tables turned Ozaki would be trying to help… He almost had to wonder if the two knew each other. But the coincidence would surely be far too great.
He could keep calm. He was calm. He must be calm He was just feeling… Overwhelmed. But the sedative would work to calm him in time. Ozaki just had to wait for that. For the mean time he felt like a live wire right now.
Ozaki eyed the creature, trying to figure out what to say. What to do. It could taste every little emotion radiating off him. He wanted to leave before he did something he regretted, but it wasn’t leaving him alone. So many people kept butting in. Wouldn’t leave him alone. He didn’t want to be alone though. But with all this, who could he trust?
Olivia was an option… But she had her own life. He didn’t want to bring his baggage on her.
What should he say? What should he do? This anger wasn’t at the Nightmare before him. What his rage could turn him into. It could sink him into a blood rage. Or. It could make him like Yuuto. That would be worse. That was everything he had been trying to avoid for so long.
Could he simply say nothing? Would the Dreamweaver even accept that? No. Would they keep following him? Yes. Could he answer their questions vaguely? Yes to that too. How was he supposed to respond to any of the questions?
How could he even trust that the Nightmare actually wanted to help them? Why would they? Why does anyone ever want to help anyone? Why did he want to help people? When Ozaki started to notice himself relax slightly as he looked into those swirling eyes he felt alarm peak in him slightly. He used hypnotism enough to know its kin when it was being used on him.
But… That wasn’t so much a Nightmare’s forte. Unless it was in their talent. Either way, he couldn’t just trust that no harm would result from it. Their whole motive for wanting to help him was suspect from the start… Even if they weren’t a Nightmare this would be the case.
Ozaki sighed, looking away from the Nightmare’s eyes. “I must look like a right fucking mess to anyone that can sense emotions.” Ozaki spoke in a low tone, so that only they two could hear within the confines of the area they were in now. He could force on a happy go lucky look right now… But that wouldn’t fool present company even if it could fool anyone else.
He didn’t know what to do or say right now. “I believed in a lie for fifteen years. I thought- but it wasn’t. The truth should make me feel better… But it just… I’m so angry. I should have seen it. I just didn’t want to. And now… Now I’m so angry and full of hate.”
He wasn’t being very clear. That was partially intentional and also in part that… He just couldn’t get the right words.

The strange swirl of gold and red that made up the Nightmare’s eyes would stay locked on the one before him, quite aware of the weapon and the emotions at play. It could hear and taste those emotions well enough. Could see them rise and fall, like waves on the ocean. The scene was beautiful, but also quite terrible. Those same strange pictures that were painted by the emotions warped and twisted due to the anger and hate that was there. It was a strange sight that put the Nightmare in a strange mood.
On one hand he could’ve easily taken this chance to get bloated on food, but he restrained himself and the beast that threaten to take over him and drive him to do something he would probably regret in the end. He allowed the form to appear to prove a point to the other about negative emotions. This creature and form…it was something that he grew inside of him at some point and now couldn’t stop. It was a constant struggle he wasn’t sure from day to day if he would win. He didn’t understand it fully that monster, but somehow he had let it in and now….? He would push that thought away as he focused on the other instead. He could pick at his own issues at a later time. Right now this one needed his attention more. So he too wouldn’t go down the path of destruction and start dying.
The Nightmare tried to help by using just a slight bit of his ability over sleep. He wasn’t trying to knock the guy out, but rather just make him loose enough to relax; however, it seemed the technique would work only for a few seconds before the other was snapping out of it and looking away.
When he spoke the Nightmare would listen before being quiet for a moment to think how to respond.
“Pain….makes us a mess. Especially the upsetting sort. It can be hard to deal with. Overwhelming and strong like yours…” He wouldn’t deny that this was a challenge in more than one ways when it came to the other’s emotional state and the energy it released. “Even so…I rather walk through this storm than watch it continue to grow into something else.” Something that couldn’t be controlled. Something dangerous….No he didn’t want that to happen. Not if he could help.
“What is it about the lie and the truth that fills you with so much anger and hate?” he would ask as he leaned back in the air and began to float watching the other as a shadowy tail flicked behind it. Well now, the Nightmare was invested in this now, but why? Well, it had its own reasons for why, but it didn’t want to share that at the moment.

Ozaki drew his fingers through his hair again, trying to settle himself down unsuccessfully. The mere motion was a pale imitation of a gesture that had always brought him solace in his childhood. A person who no longer lived… Someone he had thought it was his sole fault she was dead. He was his fault. That could not be questioned.
But he had not led the wolf to the door. No. That was Yuuto. “Looking back at it… It was so obvious. I just didn’t want to see it, accept it. And because I couldn’t… Because I didn’t…” So many more people had gotten hurt. He had been through so much more pain than he had to. Ozaki had always told himself that his own pain did not matter. It was fine. No matter what happened he would endure as he always had.
But it was no longer easy to accept such pain, and the words came out before he could manage to stop them.
“I thought I didn’t deserve to feel angry for anything done to me. Because… Because I deserved it.” He looked down, not wanting the Dreamweaver to see the barely restrained tears in his eyes. It was futile, he realized. The Dreamweaver could taste his emotional state. “But he deserves it. He deserves it. Not me. For everything he’s done.”
His fists clenched at his sides, tight enough for his claws to carve crescent moons into his palm.

The Nightmare would watch the other with calm gold and red spirals for eyes. It remained neutral as it sensed the emotions within the other go from hate and anger to something more like despair. It was a strange swirl of emotions at play so complex and intoxicating. It was something that if the Nightmare didn’t have a heart it would’ve probably tried to absorb all the negative there until it popped from over eating. If it was a brainless creature it could’ve done that, but the creature didn’t as both the light and dark within it came to an unexpected agreement.
The temporary balance allowed the shadowy form to fall off the Nightmare in the form of feathers that turned to ash as they touched the ground. He went back to his human form though the eyes remained strange and the clothes he had on took on a black and purple design. Regardless of this, the Nightmare remained focused on the suffering vampire.
He would listen to the words spoken, see the emotion bubble over on the vampire. Without really thinking, he would move closer to the other before reaching out to attempt for the moment to rest a hand on the other’s bowed head. Whether allowed or not, he would speak. “Denial is often times easier than facing the truth….even when we look back and wish we had just simply listened or have been more observant. We tell ourselves, if only I had, then this would never had happened. It is easy to lay the blame upon ourselves and in turn take whatever punishment dealt to us. It is a heavy cross to bear and one even harder to let go, but perhaps if you can’t let go of it maybe I can help you carry it,” the creature would begin in a soft calm voice. “Tell me what was it that you believed you should be punished for. Who is this 'he' that should be punished instead?”
The Nightmare wanted to know what caused this one so much pain and suffering. If he had the cause maybe he could work on some options, provided this one remained opened that is.

Ozaki was beginning to feel his mind start to slow down a bit as the sedative started properly reaching his mind… Or was that the Surreal being’s mind trick? He didn’t know for sure. But he knew he had to calm down. Whatever the source. Just… Slow down. He was still angry, still sad, just feeling less frantic about it.
Rika putting his hand on Ozaki’s head was momentarily surprising in that Ozaki flinched for a moment, but did not move. His mother had always done this when he had been feeling anxious about something, it’d always calmed him down quickly. He knew it had to do with her talent… but still the gesture, often mimicked on himself through fidgeting with his hair, came as much more comforting from someone else. So he did not move away in response.
But he could not properly and fully feel trust to this person with the whole truth though. He could be vague with it perhaps….
“I’ve made many mistakes, mistakes that I believed had caused a good man to turn into a… Well.. I guess to use your earlier metaphor. I thought I had turned him into that beast from one of those mistakes driving him off the edge… So anything he did past that point I could not hate him for because I’d brought it on myself. I won’t tell you who it was… But I will say that basically… I thought I had created a vampire hunter from my actions. When it turns out he was always a bigoted murderer of other species. Nothing I did made him that way.”

The negative emotions that were swirling around in such chaos were beginning to come to a calmer swirl. Though what was causing the storm to linger, but be calmer was beyond the Nightmare. Was his invitation to relax from earlier taken? Or was this one perhaps simply getting a grip on himself enough to grab the feelings around the neck and control them a bit better? It was hard to say, but the Nightmare didn’t question the matter too long actually quite glad the matter was settling down a bit.
As for the flinch that came as a result of resting his hand on the other’s head, the Nightmare didn’t take the action back. The other wasn’t fleeing or telling him to stop, so he would let his hand linger there as the other told him in his own way some of what was bothering him.
The Nightmare would listen quietly, a small silence falling between them as the Nightmare considered the words before gently stroking the other’s hair a bit as he spoke.
“That is heavy burden to carry. Blaming yourself for what wasn’t your fault to begin with.” He would pause in his action and let his hand drop to the side as he considered the other. “What was it you did that made you think that? As for the slayer…is it the truth of what he really was the trigger of your despair?”
It seemed the Nightmare was okay with some vagueness, but would still dig regardless. Though how far the creature would go was questionable.

Ozaki wanted him to die painfully. For all the grief and suffering he had allowed Yuuto to cause both in others and himself. Because he didn’t thing he deserved to feel mad in the first place. Him? Angry? When it was his fault Yuuto was like that in the first place? What right had he to be mad at Yuuto? He should be mad at himself. It was his fault. All his fault.
But it wasn’t just his fault, not all of it. Yuuto’s own spiteful actions had led the vampire to the door. Surely he knew that. Yet Yuuto felt the right to hate him? Had he no shame? No guilt? Of course…. Those two things could also be why the man wanted to kill him.
He already knew Yuuto was ashamed that he was a vampire at all. Ozaki mused on what to say now as the sedative began to creep further into his mind. He knew the law was rather lenient on kills vampires made during their first couple of months. The transition from human to hemophage dependent on the blood of humanoids could be a bit of a jarring one after all for some. Not all of vampires made it with their minds intact.
If he were in Rika’s shoes he’d comfort anyone who told him such a story, pat their head, like Rika was doing. Tell them it wasn’t their fault. Those kinds of things could be hard to control at first… Even now for Ozaki they were hard. Hard enough that he had opted not to even drink directly from people. Eschewing the natural way and instead drinking exclusively from blood packs. He could say that to others, but he could never truly believe it for himself. He still remembered everyone he had killed, and still remembered clear as moonlight how he had savored each dying breath.
He was almost disappointed when Rika removed his hand, but he certainly wasn't going to say anything about it. Ozaki realized that he had been quiet for too long as he wen through his thoughts. He nodded in response to Rika’s second question. “Lets say… My first couple of months as a vampire were… A little… Brutal…” He didn’t want to go into details.

He would ask his questions and get silence in return. However, the Nightmare wouldn’t push the other as he waited patiently watching instead the invisible waves of negative emotions there. They’d rise and fall in a calmer pattern, but there was still heavy anger and despair within those colorful twists and turns. So much pain. Something the creature could relate to in this state of mind he was currently in and for the moment he did not question why that was. The time would tick by in silence, the Nightmare dropping his hand from the other’s head as he waited. In time, the other would nod and answer him….though a bit vaguely. The Nightmare would hum at this one as he closed his eyes and thought.
“Sounds like a rough time. Yet you are not the same as before right?” he would ask surprisingly not pushing for details this time as he reopened his spiral eyes and focused on the other.
