welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Talon opened the doors to the training yard once more, stepping out into the yard in which he spent many nights training his energies. The road to this point had been long and difficult, with many roadblocks which had held him back for a little bit until he had finally found out what he needed to pass. He had discovered that they key to controlling his power was learning the flow patterns of different forms of energy. With that new knowledge, he had been able to make it so far as to attain control over the threes forms he currently had; lightning/electric, fire and kinetic. With these three now under his control, he felt a new sense of mixed relief and excitement. Not only has he proven that a Five could control their abilities, but that they could do so without causing major harm to themselves or others, so long as they had the right help.
He walked to a more secluded corner of the training yard, one that was clear of most training equipment and free of other people. He needed the space for what he was about to do. He knew that simple manipulation was something that could be easily worked against at times, no matter how good he was at it. That and he wanted to make his body use to absorbing different types of energy in more excessive amounts. He hoped this would not only make him more resilient against certain attacks, but also give him a less manipulative grasp and a more controlling grasp over energies, even if the control would only be temporary. He had already trained the way he was planning to a few times before, pulsing energy through his body to get used to such things. Up till now, however he hadn’t witnessed any change of any kind.
He turned to face the yard, sitting in his corner of the training grounds and pulling out his Lightning-infused Arcane Crystal. The crystal was a bright yellow hue, with sparks of electricity flashing within it. He held the Crystal within his hands, cupping them both around it and closing his eyes. He focused on the energy within the Crystal, pulling it into his body at a slow and steady pace. He knew rushing this could have negative consequences on his body, and might even harm his arcane abilities permanently. And so he took it slow, absorbing energy from within the Arcane Crystal at a snail’s pace.
No real reaction happened for quite some time, as the pace and amount he was absorbing wasn’t enough to do anything very quickly at all. He sat in that same spot, eyes closed and hands around the Crystal for about thirty minutes, focusing on the energy while thinking about things from back home. He remembered hunts he would take with some of the other members, gathering as much food as they could just so they could throw a banquet as celebration for someone doing something or other. While they had lived in seclusion from the rest of their people, they didn’t let it bother them too much that they were unwanted. Thoughts like these, ones where the Fives were actually happy without the rest of their people looming over them, they were rare, and always made him smile, even if it was just a little.
As these thoughts ran through his head, a physical change began to run through his body, starting at his hand where he was absorbing the energy. The change took place on his scars. He had rolled his sleeves up, making sure they didn’t get in the way of what he was doing. His arms bare, the scars were out for anyone passing by to see, and anyone who was looking at them would see something a little odd. The scars were starting to light up with a flashing yellow glow. At first it was just a few of the scars just above his wrists, smaller ones that were the result of smaller whiplash. Soon, however, the glow began to very slowly spread farther up his arms and towards the metal bits on his underarms. Once the glow reached them was when a major change took place.
The metal pieces began to spark, shooting out smaller bolts of lightning across their surface. The etched designs along their surfaces began to shine with a bright yellow light, casting a light glow around Talon’s immediate area. It would appear as though the metal pieces were acting as electrical conduits themselves, active and running energy through at a constant pace. From the metal there were almost no scars, one or two running as far up as his elbows. Once all the scars and metal was lit with the energy from the Crystal Talon would begin to feel the change, opening his eyes briefly to see his arms lit up and the metal literally sparking. He almost lost focus at this point, quickly regaining his control and closing his eyes once more. He hadn’t expected this change, and thus had been caught off guard. Despite this though, he was now indeed going through some sort of change from the training he had been going through. He wanted to keep it going, and decided to keep his focus on the energy, his thoughts on those past moments.
With his focus regained and the energy spreading through him once more, he felt the change continuing. He felt as though the parts of his body which the energy had already spread across was being energized, his very nervous system shooting bits of electric shock through him. The shock wasn’t enough to cause pain, just enough to let him know it was there, and was accompanied by a constant tingling throughout the energized areas. While he could still feel the change happening after his elbows, there were no scars after the joints. From his elbows up to his shoulders were bare, no markings for the energy to alter in any way. Once the energy reached the back of his neck, his hair began to change.
Where the roots of his hair were purple, the electric energy changed it to a vibrant yellow. Bolts of electric energy shot between strands of hair, a few strands of hair sticking out from the static of the energy itself. As the wave of energy reached his eyes, they subconsciously shot open to reveal a sudden change from violent to glowing bright yellow and pulsating with sparks lashing out of them. The change in appearance from the lightning magic was enough to even affect his clothes.
What once was blue now matched his eyes and hair and turned a bright and vivid yellow. The zipper and metal rivets on the hood as well as the ones which held the Arcane Crystal loops in place sparked with electricity. Trim on the clothes became lined with sparks which ran along the entire edge. Occasional sparks of lightning would flash through the fabric of the clothes. At this point the energy was spread throughout almost his whole body. It was here that he felt a change in something else.
Within in his mind he could feel the energy slowly changing how he thought, how he felt, changing his very personality. With the Arcane Crystal empty except for the smallest amount of energy and his entire being now filled with energy he felt the pressure and effects of the energy throughout his entire body. He felt as though he could run miles without breaking a sweat. His entire body was almost itching to move and stay on the move, with so much energy resting within it now that his mind couldn’t even rest on a single thought.
He placed the Arcane Crystal back into its loop and ‘stood’ up. Where he thought he stood up nice and slow, in reality he practically jumped up, lifting himself off the ground a few inches before landing back on his feet. He felt like he was just standing there, but he was actually shifting between his feet at a constant pace. To anyone looking at him, it would appear as though he might have just drank about ten cups of coffee in record time and was now feeling the effects.
Talon looked at his arms, seeing their current state before turning and looking into a window and seeing his face and head for the first time. He hadn’t expected this change, in fact he hadn’t actually expected anything. He thought the energy would just settle the way it had before. Yet the reflection he saw was that of a completely different person. His eyes and hair were completely changed by the energy, scars lit with the power he had absorbed. Even the metal on his arms was reacting. He was subconsciously always moving, shifting his position to the point it looked like he might be getting ready for an actual fight.
*I need to test what I can do with this. I need to see what is capable in this… form. I feel charged up beyond my limits, like the energy I absorbed overcharged my body.*
He turned himself away from the window and began to run through the training grounds. It was only a few seconds before he realized that even his run was different. Where before his back was straight and pace even, he was now bent low enough to the ground that any lower would have him on all fours. His eyes darted around the path in front of him, locking onto and keeping track of anything in his past. He discovered that he was now able to clear an obstacle course in much less than and with much more ease than he had previously. His speed carried him forward, giving him the momentum to push himself through at high speeds.
*This change, my body doesn’t just feel different but it acts different at the same time. And my energy, it doesn’t feel clear like before, but it all feels like the same energy I absorbed. The lightning is coursing through my body, my own energy has transformed into it.*
He took another look around to try and find a target, needed something to help test the limits of this new form. He hadn’t been paying much attention to anyone else in the training grounds up until now. He wasn’t even sure if anyone he had recently met was here.

The Vamp Wolf | Honestly, at this point, the training fields were becoming Sharaku’s number one destination when he was at the school, and had nothing better to do. Assuming he of course didn’t feel like sitting inside his room, but it was quite rare for him to desire that. He was far too restless of a person to be okay with that for very long unless he had something to focus on, like when he did his studies or homework. Which was not the case right now, and thus he was once again wandering outside, kind of just looking for something to spend his time with until he had to show up for work, which wasn’t going to be for a few more hours still. Why did time seem to pass so slowly at times? Regardless, he would step onto the expanses of the large training area, only to be greeted by a somewhat unusual sight moving about not too far away. That was some bright yellow for sure, although he couldn’t pick out much detail thanks to the speed whoever this was, was moving at. Well, maybe if he tried really hard, but why would he? As unusual as the sight was, strange occurrences were nothing out of the ordinary in the end, especially at this school. The surprise always lasted only briefly, at least for him. That said, he would watch with mild interest for now, not quite wanting to walk closer right now, as getting accidentally rammed into by a runner moving too fast to brake in time was not something he wanted to subject himself to for no apparent reason. |

He had come out into the training yard to do exactly that: train. His mission was to simply get better at working with his familiar who was still being stubborn and difficult when it came to following commands or doing anything that could help the Nightmare if a battle should happen. As a result of the stubbornness and so on, the Nightmare wasn’t even sure what the other could do fully, but today would be the day he would figure it all out and make some actual progress. Provided of course that he and his familiar could come off their current distraction.
You see, shortly after they had arrived in the yard a familiar form would also enter the yard and begin his own training which at first appeared to be simple meditation. At first the Nightmare simply ignored that and found a spot away from the guy to try to do his own training; however, after three failed attempts to make any progress with his familiar, the Nightmare decided to take a break and glance over at the other in the yard. He and his familiar had been quite surprised to see the guy actually starting to glow. More interested in what was going on with the young man named Talon, the Nightmare and his familiar found a spot near enough to view the show without getting harmed by what appeared to be electricity coming from the boy or the boy becoming electricity. It was hard to say.
Regardless as the shifts changed the other, the Nightmare would take notes quietly as things continued. He was so absorbed in the observing and note taking that for the moment he did not realize a third had come into the yard and was watching too.

As Talon looked around the yard and searched for something to test what he could do with this form on, his eyes fell upon the metal-plated dummy which he had used before. He felt it would be best to use it for testing what he could currently do, since it held up to everything he had thrown at it before. Plus the metal would attract and hold the electric power, keeping it from harming anything else. Or at least he hoped it would. He wasn't sure how much absorbing that much energy would affect him. But all he could do right now was find out.
He started to run towards the dummy, realizing seconds later he might have to get use to the speed that came with this new form. The adrenaline rush he had gotten from when this form had first triggered was now gone, and instinct had taken over while it was still going. Now however, Talon was thinking about what he was doing and actively controlling himself. As he ran, he realized that the speed which came from this form was one he wasn't use to, and the repercussions that came with this new speed.
As he neared the dummy he felt himself lose control of his own forward movement and lurch forward, hitting the ground face first and rolling about twenty feet to the base of the dummy. Once he came to a complete stop he would sit up and dust himself off, checking himself to be sure he didn't break anything. Once sure that he was completely okay he stood and looked around once more, spotting two others in the training yard. One of these he knew as a new 'partner'. It appeared he was rather interested in this new ability Talon was training with as he was taking some notes while watching.
He decided to see how Rika was doing and stood to head over to them. He took things a little slower this time, making sure to keep pace with the speed the form gave him. Successfully reaching the man and his familiar, Talon would stop and look at him. As they had only met a recently, Talon was unsure if he remembered the familiar, or if it had even been with the Nightmare when they first met. As he spoke, he realized that that his speaking had changed as well. He was no longer calm, his words instead quick though precise precise.
"Hello again. Having fun watchin' me, huh? Don't expect me to be able to answer many questions you have. You might have guessed this already but I only just discovered this form. The only thing I can really tell you right now is how I think it activates."

The Vamp Wolf | To butt in, or to not butt in? That was the question right now, for sure. He could, but at the same time, what good would it do for him? Nothing in particular. It wasn’t really like him either way. If the people there decided they wanted something to do with him when they noticed him, he would not walk away, but approaching someone who was in the middle of moving about and clearly doing some sort of training…could end badly. Not that he was afraid of getting hurt, but it was better to not put other people through accidents like that.
So for the time being, even if it was somewhat unlike him to not act or say anything, he would remain where he was, simply watching the progress of the current situation. He had noticed Rika showing up, and while that too, was a mild curiosity, observing from the side suited him better at the moment. Maybe he could play the game of how long it took before someone tried to speak to him? |

The Nightmare would stay where he was, his pen scribbling down notes in a quick precise manner within the note pad he happened to have on him at all times for occasions of research just like this. While he scribbled down notes, his eyes darting between paper and subject, his familiar would watch the other with calm red eyes. As he watched and saw the rather ungraceful fall of the other, the large dog would raise his paw to his face and do what was an equivalent of a facepalm as he shook his head. That was embarrassing and honestly the creature could feel for the guy. He knew if he had made a blunder like that, seen or not, he’d be wanting to go through the floor or growl in frustration.
Rika, on the other hand, would simply pause in his note taking as he blinked at the incident, watching the other slide with a blank stare only briefly wondering if the other would actually hit the dummy before the other was stopping. As he other moved to dust himself off, the Nightmare would hum to himself as he wrote down a note or two about the observation.
He would finish off his note looking up just as the other came over to him and his familiar who watched him with caution just in case the energy decided to do something strange being closer to things more or less living. The familiar wasn’t sure if it would bother a creature such as his master considering what he actually was, but being bound to reality himself he naturally became cautious of potential threats. Even if immortal, he did not exactly like taking damage unnecessarily. Regardless of this, the dog would remain still enough watching the other calmly. The dog was familiar with the boy. In fact, he had even conversed one-on-one with him during that first meeting back then; however, he was still within his master’s body at that point, so he would not be surprised if the boy did not recognize him without him speaking.
However, that was not important right now and not even something Rika would be focused on as he took note of the other’s way of speaking.
“Mmm. Yes. We find you fascinating to watch and that is quite all right. I do not expect all answers right away, but any data or theories given is appreciated in the matter; however,” the Nightmare would pause his rather calm, soft, semi-slow speaking as his eyes narrowed as the Cheshire smile appeared on his lips and his familiar looked over to where Sharaku was. “Do you want to give that with a guest here?” he would ask in a lower tone, not too sure how well that hearing of the taller male went, but not exactly caring if he heard or not. While he certainly wanted the data and had no issues with another involved, he was not about to break the contract with his client unless said client choose to break the contract himself or change it that is. Either way, he would see what would happen as he kept an eye on Talon and the familiar watched Sharaku with a tilted head wondering if he was going to come closer or not.

He looked over at the stranger, tilting his head just a little as he realized it was the first person he had met within the city. Sharaku, Talon believed is what he had been called. Once he realized this he quickly turned back to Rika. It was as he did this that he realized the change in his 'business' partner's energy. He felt less of that darker energy from before emitting from Rika himself. Instead it would appear as though the dog were emitting more of it. He felt like he should know the dog sitting next to Rika, but at the same time was unsure of why he felt that way. He shook off the feeling and turned back to Rika, bouncing on his feet as he did so.
"Let him watch. I believe he is trustworthy. I have met him before. He helped me get to the Academy. If he finds out about the notes, just say you are helping me understand my abilities. As for how it activated... I believe it was the amount of energy I absorbed in such a little time."
He looked at his hands, watching the pulsing yellow energy through his scars. He felt as though he knew the reason for that as well, but the specifics of physical appearances from this new trick would be explained at another time. For now, he needed to speak his mind on how this happened.
"The energy of a Five, one of those like myself, is what we call Clear. It can change and adapt, it is why we can manipulate multiple forms of energy instead of just one. I think that absorbing as much energy as I did forced my energy to change and match that energy on its own, in a more natural way outside of my manipulation. This might have caused a... what to call it... mutation? For lack of a better word that is it. My energy mutated, and now follows the natural laws of electric energy instead of being clear. Not sure exactly if that is what it is entirely, but I believe that is at least a part of what caused this."

The Vamp Wolf | Well, his hearing was quite good, and he wasn’t all that far from them given they were so keenly aware of his presence, so he did manage to pick out the majority of what was being said simply by choosing to pay attention to the conversation going on. It also helped that no one else was nearby and chatting, making it much easier for him to focus on that one set of voices.
Now he had a reason to walk over and actually join this…whatever this was, because it would be really awkward for him to consciously stand to the side and basically eavesdrop on the conversation. He was a blunt person all the way through, but that didn’t mean he tried that hard to be rude too. Shrugging to himself mentally, he’d stride over to the talking duo with his hands shoved in the pockets of his pants for the moment. “Well, I’ll inform you that I can indeed hear you two, so I might as well just butt in.” Unapologetically so, but it wasn’t like their previous words implied they wanted him gone. He’d raise an eyebrow. “What is this about saying you’re just helping? Am I to assume that’s some sort of cover for something?” He couldn’t help but wonder what that part had meant. Was that supposed to mean Rika was to lie to him about why they were discussing powers here? What for? Strange.
“Anyway, if you care for my opinion on this, I’d say the best way to understand and work out a power is to actively use it and test its limits. Talking it over will only do so much. Understanding in theory doesn’t always make a person able to skillfully use the ability in question. Do you have any plans on how to train this?” |

Indeed the boy should have known the dog quite well; however, forms often confused and while it would’ve been fun to play a game of guess who for now that door would close as the focus of the conversation became their guest and the boy’s power. The dog would continue to watch Sharaku as the boy spoke to Rika. The Nightmare, on the other hand. would chuckle softly at the boy’s words. “Mmm. I see. Well then, I will not hold back in that case,” he would say before becoming quiet and listening to what the other said about his powers. As he listened, he would go back to his notebook and take some notes.
“So your energy in its natural state changes and bends other energies, but when absorbing large amounts of one source it bends to follow the source. Hmmm...It certainly makes it hard to determine by mere words exactly what has happened. Did it mutate or simply take on a natural form…?” The Nightmare would frown in thought before being completely knocked back to reality by Sharaku coming over.
To what was said the Nightmare would give a natural smile not seeming upset or apologetic or any form of upset about the matter. “Well then. Since that cat is out of the bag, it is honestly what he was saying. I am helping him figure out his abilities and how exactly they work.” It really was nothing more than a research project at this point, so he had no reason to lie to the other and even if it was more to it than that, he wouldn’t have held his tongue or lied since the client let the other in. Plus...he had his own deal with Sharaku that would keep him from lying anyway. In any case, the data he had gathered so far only made his mind turn and want to test things to see exactly what worked with what for the boy. It seemed that whatever had happened here when he absorbed the electrical energy not only shifted the energy he used, but even his whole body structure and the way of behaving for the other. This was way stranger than simple energy conversion. Last he checked conversion did not cause full blown transformations or changes within the body like this. As for a mutation? He had to wonder about that one. Could a mutation cause a shift in form? He’d have to dig into that part more at later time. He need to consult all sources to find an answer to that.
Speaking of data, the Nightmare would blink at Sharaku as he tilted his head his pen tapping his lips in thought as his familiar sniffed a bit at a dragonfly that landed nearby. “That might help matters and even give us an answer into some of its nature. I still think we’d have to dig in other places for a full answer to this, but at least to see what it does would be a start.” He could agree that not all talk and theory was useful nor was only observing. Still a combo of the pair could paint a clearer picture. Question was what would Talon do now?

Talon looked between Sharaku and Rika as they spoke, nodding at some of the words spoken. While it was true that Rika was helping him figure our his own abilities and how they worked, there was still the second part of their agreement that he didn't want getting out just yet. He felt they could trust Sharaku with that information, but didn't want to say anything unless it was brought up in conversation. Instead, it was Rika's question which he answered.
"Mutated, take on a natural form, guess we will just have to keep testing it and see what it does. I can't give any direct or guaranteed answers right now, just theories on what I currently know."
He looked at Sharaku once more and nodded in agreement to his words. Training was what got him where he was, and training was currently his only path forward. He had already made plans to keep training and see exactly what he could do in this state, so these two saying this only made him want to get on with it even more. The energy he had from this state made him feel like he had just been pumped full of pure energy and set on high. He needed to move, to rush around once again and hopefully this time not trip. He needed to get use to the speed and make sure he had control of his movements.
"Well alright then. Let's get more practical and see what I can do. What should I try first? Movement, battle? New abilities this form might bring? Not that I know how to discover any new abilities."
With two now helping him discover what he could do, Talon now felt as though this would be easier than he first imagined it would be. Alone he could only theorize what he felt, and often times he felt his theories weren't very close. With two others now helping he felt that the theories would bring him closer to the truth much quicker. He knew he could trust Rika with this, being partners with that new deal. He had only met Sharaku once, and while he wasn't fully sure how trustworthy he was, Rika seemed to trust him and that was enough for Talon, for now anyways.

The Vamp Wolf | “Hn….” He’d snort with a shake of his head. “Helping by theorizing what exactly it’d be called? I’m sure you’ll get far through creating a definition for it.” He'd comment with a hint of sarcasm in his tone for that one. That was like reading a textbook versus actually going out there and using your own hands to experience what was described on the pages. Which one actually helps with usable understanding? Mutated, natural..whatever the fuck, did that matter in using it? What it was called wasn’t going to give the guy full control over how it worked in action and how to utilize it. Was this training, or some sort of research?
That said, he’d shrug when Rika spoke on further digging. “I personally think personal powers like this are just too individualistic. You have to figure out how it works for you, and what it lets you do. Trying to pull out more technical explanations from somewhere can’t teach you how your body responds in practice, and give you much needed experience. I’m not quite sure what the aim is with that. It might be pointless unless there is someone else with the exact same power, and they happened to document how it works. Otherwise, you’d only be grasping at straws with your digging, and pulling up bits of information that may not even apply to him perfectly.” There was a of potential for it to complicate things instead. Some talents were more common and mainstream, meaning they could easily be read up on…but as far as he understood, this was more unique right? You don’t find exact information on ones like that.
“I’d say start with what feels most instinctual to you, and work from there. Trying to focus on a specific area only might block you if you can’t figure out how to do that one specific thing. Find what you can seem to do easily, and extrapolate from there. Well, if you want my suggestion on this, at least.” In the end, he couldn’t tell the guy how exactly to train. So he’d just offer his two cents. |

The Nightmare would rub his chin in thought as he heard the answer given by the boy. “Hmm… Well testing is the only way to go to find answers, yes,” he would begin with a soft mutter before blinking and looking over at Sharaku. “We could theorize all day about many things and while I admit talking only goes so far, it does do one thing well: it gives you a base so you know what you are testing and are looking for. Action is a lovely and quick way to learn and explore, but without a base or theory or question behind it, it has less focus.” Even if you didn’t speak it out loud, the reason one explored or did actions to even see what something would or would not do was because of that base curiosity or theory one had built in the first place. In the end, action and theory worked hand-in-hand naturally in his opinion anyway. “Besides, I was just observing the nature of the energy and shape it had taken. I wasn’t going to sit here and just talk about it. I know I need actions to be done to get results,” the Nightmare would say with a huff before humming at the next part. “There is a possibility that extra digging can be moot in this case; however, I still believe that some data behind it all helps paint the power and what it can do more clearly. Yes you can test it and learn from experience what it can and cannot do. However, just like theory or data alone, action can only go so far. Sometimes the data has extra clues into more things that experience and action alone does not hold. Besides having a log of this stuff, is helpful in the end for myself and perhaps for him if he wished to go over the back logs and reflect. It is not data that is going to fit him perfectly no. No data ever does or can be that flawless, but at least it is something in the end that helps understand the matter as a whole. Now while it may be just him for now, you never know if there is perhaps something similar to him or his abilities out there. Would you not want to have some base to help know what to expect even if whatever this is may shift and change to the individual?" In a nutshell, he rather have all the messy notes and data written down until he got more or less a conclusion or satisfying answer to it all. The process for him was a matter of research and logging, doing, and reflecting to see the whole picture from all angles. It was an adaptable process easy to change and fix when something new came along or applied to something else. Complicated, maybe, but it worked for him.
Regardless the chatter seem to get Calabus to sigh as he stood up and stretched, his mind focused on the boy rather than the chatter going on. “I’ll help you have a point of focus if you want a physical and moving thing to practice with. I know for myself doing is great and all, but having a live unpredictable variable to play with helps even more.” Dangerous, yes, but the familiar kind of leaned on Sharaku’s side of thinking. You couldn’t full learn without action and while his master’s point was valid in its own right, he found learning from doing was effective in getting all the ends and outs of an ability memorized rather quickly. Perhaps it was because he was more wild and focused on survival than his master. He contemplated finding a way to get his master into a spot where he couldn’t have any of his data at his disposal see what he did there, but that was a game for another time. For now, he wanted to have something else happen besides talk happening and besides it might be fun to finally use some of his basic skills that had probably gotten rusty over time provided the boy agreed. He was hearing no protest from his master after all, so he assumed unless told otherwise this action was fine enough to perform.

As the other two spoke about what the best course of action would be Talon felt himself becoming rather restless. The energy coursing through him caused him to feel as though he had to start moving. Lightning was a high energy arcane, so it was no surprise that it caused such a reaction within him. He wondered if he could do this with other energies and what the results of that would be. He would have to run tests in the future to see what might happen. For now, however, he kept his attention on seeing what this new power could do.
His attention was drawn to Calabus, tilting his head a little as he listened to the words spoken. Having someone who could give him an unpredictable and random target or even an obstacle course of the same nature would definitely help. He knew that if he wanted to get down combat with this he would have to learn how to move properly first. The speed was something he needed to get use to, and from this thinking he knew what he needed help with, what he needed Calabus to do.
"Alright, as much as I would love to I don't think sitting here talking about this will do any good. Need to move. Need to test. Can you make something to move around the field? Turn the whole thing into a course for me to test and adapt to this new speed. And targets. Something for me to attack while I move. If I have that much to focus on then I don't think I will get distracted, I'll get a hang of this a little faster. Maybe. Only one way to find out."
He looked down to the creature that seemed to be with Rika, awaiting an answer. He subconsciously started to shuffle again, hopping between his feet as he waited to see what this creature could do for him. Now that he was focused on the being he could sense the energy that he sensed from Rika emanating from it, as though this were what let off the energy which he had felt that night. Interesting, without a doubt, but not relevant to what he was doing right now. Though it did shed light on something else the form seemed to change. Not only was his physical being more energized and thus more active, but it seemed that his mind followed the same pattern, unable to stay on a single subject unless he was actively doing something.

The Vamp Wolf | …huh? He’d raise an eyebrow. “If…I didn’t even know what I was about to be testing, how could I theorize about it? The less accurate information you have about how it works, the more inaccurate and a bunch of barely probable bullshit your theory will be. And said information can only be gained by doing or at least observing the thing in action to see how it behaves. Where would you want to pull your ‘base’ from? The clouds?” He didn’t quite understand the order of steps in that one. Yes, you could try to be a smartass and use general information about elements when knowing your focus is to be an element-based power, but what good does that truly do? Those basics might be completely different from the power in question, and actually help none. You could talk and ponder all day, only to then try to test it and find out that all of your ‘effort’ had been for naught, because you’ve spent time talking before you had any idea of how the practical application would look like and go, and thus arriving at completely wrong conclusions ahead of time.
That said, he would shrug lightly. “Me? Never needed that stuff, and never will. The only time I read ‘data’ like that, is when dealing with things I have no way to personally test despite needing the information, or said process is very dangerous and it’s too risky to go in blind. In that case, I’d maybe look for books that give me some base pointers. That’s usually for universal stuff however…when it comes to something as individualistic as people’s powers, I can’t be bothered. If you only have information that could possibly mislead or cause you to box yourself in based on what it says, thanks to the fact that it’s unlikely to be a perfect fit for you…I’d rather go in without and ensure I keep an open mind.” It’d be easy to read what some basic info tells you, and assume you should be able to figure how to do that…only to try hard and waste time to find out you’re different and in fact cannot. Or the data lists out some abilities, and you mistakenly only focus on those and forget to look for new ones beside those, not anticipating them because your information did not mention them existing. There were so many ways that using guide could set one back instead of properly helping.
Anyway, moving on from that debate. “Is speed the only gimmick to this? Just getting faster doesn’t seem like the best way to use that much electricity.” Not that it was a bad boost, but was that all there was to it? Move faster and of course attack faster? “Regardless, if you need a living target, I can always offer. It’s unlikely you could destroy me much whether you hit me or not.” Just basic punches and the like he could recover from fast, and he had gotten electrified before, so he had an idea of how to deal with that, if it happened. “Targets that can fight back are the most useful in the end, assuming you’re trying to practice this for real combat.” |

Rika would give the other a blank look as he shook his head. “You start with what you can observe. For example, let’s say he is a tree. We see leaves, wood, branches, the form of a tree. We can go from there to believe that he has some plant like qualities and needs a different source of food than humans. At that point my theory would be pulling from what I already know as fact and from there, I can begin to observe and test for things that set him apart from the average tree. The same goes for something completely new. I start by observing and trying to find the familiar about the subject of study and make some guesses based on that. If the subject fails to meet anything familiar that I can pull from? Well then, I simply do not theorize as freely and instead start from the bottom by observing, experimenting, and seeing what it can do because curiosity and questions drive me. I do not pull my information from the clouds. I pull it from what reality has already given and gives. Besides not all of my theories are deep, some are ghostly guesses or assumptions that I have that I intentionally look for data to prove them right or wrong with the facts. Call it pre-planning or what have you rather than just simple theories of 'what ifs'. This whole discovering process all starts with a curiosity and question to make one even want to observe and test after all…and so my point still stands. Theory or whatever you call it is typically the starting point for these more action oriented things.” It was just this round he had some information from before he could pull from about the boy and thus could make some guesses about this power the boy displayed. His process of talking and speculating didn’t mean things were set in stone or that he did not plan to do something to see the truth. His process was instead a series of curiosities and assumptions he looked at with an open mind to see if they were right or wrong and what he could learn and add to the subject he was trying to decode. To him theorizing and guessing were not wasted even if wrong. The wrong was just a different way of learning and expanding knowledge. Did he disagree with just doing? Not really, but more often than not one could sit back and analyze slightly before doing that, so why not talk before doing? To him his process was simple and logical enough.
Though whether or not he and the other would ever agree on this was questionable since even with the next topics their ways were opposite. “While I will not say going in head first without any data is wrong, I personally prefer to do my research on what is out there to see what is said and not said about something before tackling it myself. It is not blocking me in or keeping me closed minded because the data isn’t used as solid truth. Yes, I go in with some theories or ideas, but know nothing ever fits perfectly and thus the data could be flawed or flat out wrong. The point is, at least I have something to go with beforehand and in turn can plan slightly.” He didn’t let himself get consumed by the facts to the point that he was blinded by the fact reality could be very different when faced with the same thing a book or guide told one about. He understood experience added the extra layer that data alone did not have, but even so he did not find the method he used useless or a waste of time. To him the research was just as important as the doing and observing and such.
Anyway, the Nightmare would blink as his focus was knocked away from the debate with Sharaku and back to Talon. “Oh yes. We do need to test. yes, yes. He would put his note book away for now and look around the field to see what equipment was available. Outside of the dummies in this area, there wasn't a lot close by to make move around or have him concentrate on. Hmm.
“I highly doubt that speed is his only ability considering he mentioned he could potentially attack something,” Calabus would begin before considering the request. “There isn’t much in this area; however, there is an already made obstacle course on these ground not to far from here. We could work our way towards it and still practice. I am sure if you accept both myself and Sharaku as “playmates” you’ll have plenty to concentrate on before you get there. Besides, the less you have to impale yourself on while learning to control your speed the better no? Trust me you can learn speed control with very few obstacles or open field even. On top of that, you have a third variable anyway.” He would look over at Rika. “You have no idea what this one may do to screw up perfect plans.” His dog like mouth would pull back into a smirk mischievously causing Rika to give a confused blink, but for now the Nightmare didn’t say anything as the familiar gave an amused "heh" before the humor was gone as he came back to the task at hand. “Combat or not, I would advise we all take this seriously and treat this ground like the wild. Otherwise, the practice is impractical and not able to show the fullness of what is there within the boy.”
