welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Kaiden's lip curled up as his eyes narrowed. The impatient man before him didn't seem to take that expression very well, evident by the sigh of disapproval that followed shortly after. "Look kid, that's the best I can offer ya! You have no idea what I had to go through to get this. It nearly cost my life!" Kaiden's eyebrow arched upwards suspiciously at that comment, but there wasn't really anything he could do to discredit that claim. And judging by the rarity of the item he was dealing with, he could understand how hard it would've been to get ahold of it. Sighing, Kaiden finally broke. Reaching into his pockets he took out a neatly stacked wad of cash, held together by a single elastic band. "Fine fine. Here, take the cash and let me have it." He said reluctantly, handing it over to the shady trader. He laughed somewhat sinisterly before turning around and leaving the room. Kaiden kept a close hand on the hilt of his blade incase the man tried to pull a fast one on him, but it didn't seem like that would be necessary today. He returned holding a old piece of rolled parchment paper, handing it over to the student. He quickly took it and unrolled it to make sure the contents were good, and sure enough they were. Before him he saw an old scribbly map from a long forgotten era. He could make out some landmarks on it, however, and he knew this would lead him straight to the other armor sets. "Thanks for the business." Kaiden said before leaving through a door on the opposite end of the room. He walked through a hallway before coming to a small antique store. Exiting the store through the main door, the blue haired boy stepped right onto the street of the outlet mall. Around him dozens of shoppers were bustling around the complex. Taking another look at the old map in his hands he smirked slightly. It had been a while since he heard of the existence of the other armor sets, but now this map confirmed they were real. All he needed to do now was to decipher where exactly everything on this map was, as it was supposedly hundreds of years old. He was surprised that the paper still held together as well as it did, but if the small magic runes scripted at the bottom of the paper told Kaiden anything, he could've guessed they were probably magic. He didn't know exactly what they meant, but maybe someone else did. His best bet would be to ask around at school. Surely a student studying in this field, or better yet a professor, would have some idea on what the runes said.
However, the universe would not make it that simple for Kaiden. As Kaiden walked through the crowds of people in the mall, his hearing picked up something unusual. He heard very quick footsteps coming up behind him, so he curiously turned to see the source. However, there was nothing out of the ordinary, all around him people were walking at a normal pace. Confused, Kaiden was going to continue walking but then the footsteps returned! Much faster, and much closer. Suddenly he felt the paper in his hand get pulled straight from his grasp! He bolted his head around to see a shorter figure expertly swerving their way through the crowd with his map tightly clasped in his hands! A thief! "H- Hey! Get back here!" Kaiden's voice yelled, but the thief was determined to get away. Seeing no other option, Kaiden broke into a sprint, pushing past the people in his way attempting to catch up to the much smaller and quicker target! Darksteel would end this chase quickly, but it was also just as likely to land him in a heap of trouble. If he put his armor on here it could cause collateral damage to the stone path and people around him. He wouldn't risk that, but this map was too important to let some pickpocket get away with it! So Kaiden summoned all the strength he had in his legs and lungs and wasted no time, swerving and twisting as best as he could around the surprised shoppers... His eyes trained on the thief who was now making his way towards the center of the plaza... An area that was much MUCH more crowded...

"Hey!"
In the blue-haired boy's haste to chase the thief, one of the many that were shoved away was Adrisse. The brunette had been loafing out in the shopping streets, trying to decide if she should go home or not. She wasn't a fan of crowds, not even out in the open like this. But she also hated being alone, which was a condition she suffered a lot recently upon moving into Eldritch Academy's cobalt dorm. Wandering in and out of the more empty shops always lead somewhere unexpected and fun, but right now outside was more interesting. The dog in her that loved to chase cars felt the same about running people, so there was no hesitation in her reversing steps to follow the two.
"Awoooo!" the girl howled in excitement, thrilled there was something interesting to get involved with. She had no idea the context or even who was right and wrong, but the boy didn't smell evil so she decided to aid the chaser over the chasee. Coming up beside him, her grin was shining as brightly as her hazel eyes. "Hey!" she said again, though in a much different tone than earlier. This is where someone might normally ask if they needed help, but instead Adrisse just blew past the boy in hot pursuit of the shorter man trying to get away with an old paper. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out something the size of a quarter, but in the next second it was full size. They both blew through the thicker crowd, the amount of people not even bothering the girl since she had something else distracting her. The thief apparently realized he wouldn't lose them in the people, so he headed for a shady alley. Perfect The item she'd grabbed was a flash bang grenade, which she tossed into the alley after the man as she skidded to a stop. She'd stop the boy behind her if he tried to enter, since she didn't want him stunned. Her own back to the mouth of the walkway between buildings, she closed her eyes and clamped her hands over her ears. "Fire in the hole!"
After the blinding flash and the deafening bang, she turned and darted into the smoky space. The man staggered around, bewildered. Reaching for another small object, this one grew to the size of a 9mm handgun, which she pointed at him. "Stop there! Against the wall!"

This guy was fast. Very fast. For the first time in the chase, Kaiden began to worry that he had just lost his only lead to where the other armor sets were hidden. His dream of tracking them down was escaping him, on top of two little quick feet. The figure obviously knew what they were doing, which told Kaiden he was probably a regular pickpocket... However something was odd. To the normal onlooker the map Kaiden held looked nothing special. It was just a piece of old parchment with some scribbled lines on it. Surely its purpose wasn't obvious enough that a random thief was able to determine it. There was also the fact that the thief snatched the item straight from Kaiden's grasp, which was an extremely risky move for a pickpocket. Most of the time they'd aim for items in someone's bag or pockets, like cash... But this guy was brave enough to risk getting caught by stealing the map directly out of Kaiden's hands. This guy certainly wasn't a regular pickpocket... He must've known exactly what that map was.
Shoving past people to get closer to the thief proved difficult. While Kaiden wasn't losing site of his quarry, he was slowly losing distance. His opponent was far more agile and quick, able to expertly maneuver his way through the crowd without touching a single body. Kaiden on the other hand was hitting people left in right. Their disgruntled yells did little to distract Kaiden, but they were still slowing him down. It wasn't until the boy shoved one person in particular did he start to take notice of people surrounding him. He heard a girl yell in his direction "Hey!" but he ignored it like the rest... However the same voice called to him again soon after in a much different tone... And it was a lot closer. Kaiden noticed someone next to him keeping pace with his speed, and it appeared to be a young woman with animal ears. He had no idea who she was or what she was trying to do, but the smirk on her face told Kaiden that she might be a potential ally? "He- Hey!?" Kaiden said with a confused tone, however before he could say anything else the girl zipped ahead of him! Who was she exactly? His eyes followed the woman and he witnessed her pull something from her hands? He was surprised to see it rapidly grow in size to something that looked really dangerous? Oh no, she wasn't about to set off an explosive in a crowded area like this, was she?
Kaiden's worries were put to rest however when he saw the thief change course and duck into a dark alley. Luckily the girl's mind was already on a solution and she threw it in there. Several seconds after the girl had the criminal on hold, Kaiden came sprinting into the alley, before breaking into a jog and breathing very heavily. Leaning forward with both hands on his legs, the man took several deep breaths. "H- hey... Than- Thanks for slowing this g- guy down f- for me" He panted before leaning up and noticing the handgun being pointed to the thief's face. His eyes instantly shot wide and he raised his hands. "Wh- Whoa, lady! We don't need to shoot the guy, right?" He said quickly standing between the girl and the smaller thief. Upon closer inspection the criminal seemed to be a regular human, oddly short though. He looked a little older, about in his mid 30's with short messy brown hair and black eyes. Kaiden unhooked the Darksteel blade from his back and pointed it at the thief. "Alright you, I'll be taking back MY property, thanks." He grunted, pulling the map out of the thief's reluctant grasp. "Now then, you're going to tell me exactly who you are, and what about this map told you it was worth stealing?" He asked, before shooting a glance at the girl. He gave her a silent signal to act tough so they could scare the guy a bit. "Or me and my uh... Accomplice will start breaking things that aren't meant to be broken." He said through a hard glare.

She had no intentions of shooting the man...as long as he didn't attack or try anything. This was a fact she didn't feel the need to voice, firstly because of the tough act for intimidation, secondly because on second smell the boy she helped was human. Sometimes it was hard to tell with all the shapeshifting smells around. Even she was mostly in her human form these days, with or without the canine ears she currently sported. But no matter if every species looked human now or not, humans still had a scent that brought back unpleasant memories. If he'd also smelled of freshly dug dirt, she might nor have been able to contain herself.
Distracting herself with the task at hand, her small ears twitched as she listened. So the thing that was stolen was just a map? It was just a piece of paper, how could it be worth buying, let alone being stolen and chasing said thief for? She'd gnawed on homework that looked more important and expensive. Not understanding that, she moved on to the neat weapon the human boy drew. That was more her speed. A fancy blade, but not really like any she could identify right off. It seemed to smell like the ocean, the salty tang tickling her sinuses. Her nose was sensitive, but how could the odor of mystical potential be a thing? Her head tilted in both confusion and interest, but she'd have to ask later. The person she was helping was speaking.
At his 'accomplice's' threat, she turned to stare at him with a slightly quirked brow. Accomplice made them seem like the criminals here instead of the thief, something she nearly commented on, but then decided against it in the spirit of trying to actually seem threatening. "Oh, blades and not guns, hm?" she asked, turning her hazel hues on the man with excitement gleaming. Her top lip lifted into a devious smile as she let her gun shrink back to coin size. Placing it in her pocket, she pulled out a small case the size of her palm and jiggled it around in an attempt to look for something specific. Plucking out something smaller than a toothpick, it soon grew into a black bowie knife and she held it up threateningly. "He may not be very intimidating, but I assure you that breaks are the lesser of the evils I'm thinking of. My gun would have been a mercy. I would answer, if I were you."

The thief was obviously afraid now. If the two blades being held up to his body weren't enough to convince others of that fact, the trembling posture of his body would certainly be. He was not expecting a response this intimidating to come from anyone who witnessed him steal the map. Mostly because he wasn't expecting to have been caught. But now that he realized there was no escape, the small thief could only do one thing. Forget his pride and tell the truth… After all he would've liked to keep his life. It wasn't worth going out over some stupid piece of paper. "L- Listen! I- I don't wanna mess with you two, kay? I- I admit stealing the map was wrong… But I ain't the guy you gotta be pointing those things at!" The man stuttered. Kaiden raised an eyebrow suspiciously at the thief's comment. What did he mean by that? Nonetheless he held his sword steady, but couldn't help but flash a brief expression of surprise when he noticed the girl pull out a tiny object, only to have it grow several times in size! What on earth was her talent? He quickly shook the thought though, and returned to the matter at hand. After the girl made some uneasy threats towards the thief, Kaiden interjected. "You'll need to explain what exactly you mean by that, less my blade forgets to tell the difference!" Kaiden growled with irritation. The thief quickly got the point and nodded! "R- Right! It was old Jimbo, ya see! H- He wants the merchandise, but thought he could make twice as much cash off it if he sold it to suckers like you, then hired me to steal it back for him!" Kaiden's expression soon shifted to one of surprise before he lowered his weapon and cursed himself. That shady shop owner was behind this? The man who sold Kaiden the map was also the man behind the thieving as well? Kaiden quickly turned his weapon back up to the man's neck, barely skinning it. "How many times has he made you do this?" "A- About 4 times now… He's sold the same map to 4 different people, and every time I've been the one to come and steal it from them and- and we split the profits!" The thief sputtered almost instantly. "Heh… So far you two have been the only ones to catch me." "I wouldn't laugh about that." Kaiden said before quickly flipping his blade around before whacking the thief straight on the head with the wild of his sword! The impact knocked him out instantly and he slumped to the alley's ground. Kaiden mumbled more curses before sheathing Darksteel onto his back and pacing around a few more times. That's when he remembered the girl's presence!
"I uh… I'm sorry to drag you into this." Kaiden stammered. Now that his attention wasn't focused on the thief, he could take this time to thank the girl for her help… And admire her odd beauty for a second… But that was besides the point! "N- Name's Kaiden by the way… Thanks for the help with the thief. Not sure I'd see my map again without it." The boy chuckled slightly, looking down at the old parchment in his hands. "I think I'm going to pay old Jimbo another visit… Shut down his whole swindling business for good. Wanna come?" He asked sheepishly. To be honest he wasn't entirely sure what else to do at this point. The girl did just help him after all, maybe she would like to see this through to the end as well. Of course it could've just been one act of kindness… But judging by what Kaiden had saw, he wasn't entirely sure that was the case. She seemed to like what she was doing. That was something Kaiden could admire.

"I dragged myself here, thank you very much," Adrisse corrected the boy with confidence, though it was clear from both her tone and facial expression that she meant nothing negative by it. Instead she was smiling somewhat victoriously, pleased that their threats had revealed the criminal truth, and convinced it was her much more convincing aura of danger that cracked the man. Her small, pointed dog ears twitched with energetic stimulation. She was geared up for anything at this point, so there was no way he was taking on the rest of his task alone...even if he was a human.
The blade she wielded shrunk down to the size of a coin once more and she dropped it into a metal-lined pouch with a small clink against the host of other violent things made of metal she had in there. As she snapped the flap back, she realized the map enthusiast was introducing himself and thanking her. Resting a hand on each hip bone, the church grim shifted her weight to one leg, relaxing for the time being. While humans to her were selfish little things, this one didn't seem to have anything up his sleeve other than avenging the wrong done to him. "Nice to meetcha, Kaiden. I'm Adrisse," the girl counter introduced herself, grin only widening as he invited her along to confront this Jimbo character.
"Sure, I'll help you with this shyster. Jimbo might have some extra goons hanging around..." she trailed, suddenly giggling to herself strangely. "Heh...goons. I've always wanted to use that in a real sentence," Adrisse chuckled, leaning forward to sniff the thief. Sure, Kaiden most likely knew perfectly well how to get back to his Jimbo's shop...but she also liked to know where she was going. Then she wouldn't have to wait for him. Once she had the scent, she turned and started walking out of the alley as if following an invisible line back out into the crowd. "He smells like cheap hair gel, cheaper booze, and expensive lady's perfume. A real stand up guy..." the brunette teased her current partner in justice, whether he was listening or not. Her keen nose didn't miss much.

Kaiden couldn't help but smile slightly at the girl's enthusiasm. It might've struck most people as odd, seeing as she literally had no reason to help him further, or really at all in the first place. Not that it mattered much to the boy though, he could use all the help he could get if what Adrisse said was true about Jimbo having some sort of hired protection. While he was perfectly confident in his own abilities to handle a few thugs, help was always welcome. Especially when said help was also a skilled fighter and could sense things far quicker than he could. By this point in his life Kaiden had learned not to question the intuition or senses of non-humans. Almost all of them had far better senses of smell or site than he did, and they'd proven that multiple times over. Kaiden just hoped that the oddly specific details Adrisse gave concerning this Jimbo character's scent was an accurate indicator that she could indeed sense what was coming. Something that would probably prove to be fairly useful in the coming minutes.
"Heh... Yeah, I got the same impression just standing next to the guy. Real classy that one." Kaiden responded with a chuckle before Adrisse turned and began to walk out of the alley. He'd quickly catch up to her and walk beside the church grim into the large crowds of the shopping complex. He stayed silent for a few moments before coughing slightly and turning to her with a somewhat nervous tone. "So uh.. I'm not sure how you normally handle these situations but you seem like a pretty skilled fighter..." He trailed off slightly, trying not to sound petty. He scratched the back of his neck nervously, trying to find out how he should word his next sentence. He didn't want to make her mad or sound demanding, but this was important to Kaiden. "Just wanted to tell you.. Y'know.. If there ARE armed guys with Jimbo, and uh.. They put up a fight, don't kill them please." Kaiden said with a nervous smile, hoping that Adrisse wasn't one of those "kill the bad guys so they can never do bad again." types. Not only would that be illegal and he'd probably end up in prison for helping her, but Kaiden would feel guilty about it forever. Plus he still had three little sisters to look after (even if they thought they no longer needed him). He couldn't risk anything that would compromise his current status as an upstanding citizen of the law.

Ah, Kaiden speaks again. He seemed like a nervous boy. It was probably more of the situation they were in, but still, his tone was hesitant and he smelled nervous. What did that smell like? Well...okay, honestly, she couldn't explain it. It was a dog nose thing. Adrisse never dreamed it was actually her that was bringing a touch of anxiety. Even as he finally got his question out, the girl still didn't get the message that he was possibly more concerned about her offing humans left and right than being attacked by low-life criminals. Humans were odd, and sometimes she forgot that fact.
With a giggle, the brunette shot a glance at him. "Awww," Adrisse fake lamented, pretending to be very sad that she couldn't go in with literal guns blazing, but after a few seconds she continued. "Aren't you squishy," her tone was light, amused but being more serious now. So he cared about taking lives...that had earned him good points in her mental record book. "Kaiden, I might not be a human like you, but I don't go around killing people. I would never force a fate like that on another living being. Not as long as I can help it," the church grim explained, still appearing cheerful though there was a touch of sadness in her eyes. She'd been killed before to serve another's purpose and it was definitely a thing she rejected all around. "I have lots of weapons, but they are for protecting myself and intimidation, not needless selfish killing. You don't have to worry."
The scent took them exactly the way they'd come, and now she was beyond even her starting point. She followed the cheap booze, hair gel, and floral perfume scent, also noting that the smell mingled with it must belong directly to Kaiden. Cheap deodorant, like most teenage boys to be honest, and....salt water. It's not like she had gotten the chance, nor seen it appropriate to smell the boy earlier. Salt water, hm? Not a common smell to humans the far into Mistere. River water was common, and sea water was for aquatic species attending the academy. A weird thing to get interested in, for sure, but when smell played such a big part of her senses, how could she not be curious? Twirling the green streak in her hair idly around her index finger, her bold question was voiced. "You smell like the ocean. Is that where you're from?" asked his classmate, just as the door to the shady business came into full view.

Kaiden could admit he wasn't exactly amused with her mocking tone. The sound of her voice and look in her eyes when she made fun of him reminded him all too well of his sisters, and he wasn't exactly keen on reliving that memory. Although it was quite a relief to him when he finally found out she was being sarcastic. He wasn't sure he'd be able to become friends with anyone who shows little regard for another person's life. Luckily she viewed that type of situation similarly to himself. Of course than she said something that instantly shook his thoughts and turned the subject immediately. "O- Oh! No nothing like that... I didn't mean to assume that just because you're n- not a human you'd go around killing.. Uh.. H- humans or anything. Or non-humans either.. Y'know?" He stammered nervously. He really hoped he hadn't offended her with that comment by giving her the wrong impression. Kaiden had nothing against non-humans! He even dated one... Although that probably wasn't the best example to use in this situation. Adrisse explained to him that the weapons she had were only meant for personal defense and intimidation. Kaiden understood... At least he did for a few seconds. However once he thought about it for a minute he became somewhat confused. Intimidation..? How often does this girl go out and catch thieves? Or was it something more sinister than that? He honestly had no idea what to expect from her by this point, but thankfully she sounded genuine enough in her reasoning for not killing people... That was good enough for now. Although he did notice the slight sad gaze for a moment before it vanished again when she finished speaking. This caused a slight eyebrow arch from Kaiden, but he thought it was best not to say anything, or ask anything personal. That didn't stop him from wondering though what her story was...
It wasn't long after that the old antique shop came into sight. Kaiden mentally prepared himself for a possible fight, staring directly at the door, ready to kick it down when they got close. Of course all of Kaiden's focus was shattered when Adrisse said something extremely random and oddly specific. He apparently smelled like the ocean? She could smell that from him? How the hell did she even do that? He hadn't been anywhere near the sea in over 4 years! "Uh.. Yeah, actually." He said with a mixed expression of surprise and fear. He didn't know how she did it, but it was creepy. "Dad was a fishermen out of Colomdire... But I haven't been back to that city in a longgg time." He said with a little bit of emphasis on the "long" part. What kind of species was this girl anyways? Some sort of yokai? Maybe, judging by the animal ears. Although he wasn't exactly an expert on the yokai, so he couldn't quite tell what type she was IF she even was one. Either way she seemed to have some sort of superhuman sense of smell. Of course, Kaiden would've asked but he thought that might be rude. Some people got offended if you mistook their species and there wasn't really anything he could do to remedy that mistake if he dared to make it.

It was kinda cute to watch him backpedal, trying not to offend her. Even if he had assumed such, could she have truly gotten offended without being a hypocrite? In the past it was no secret she assumed the worst about humans specifically until they proved her wrong, just from her prior experience. She assumed he was selfish and forceful about his own agenda, and he'd assumed she was a human killer. Seemed about even. Luckily for both of them, neither were willing to kill nor were they stuck in their presumptions of one another.
His answer about his origins brought a brilliant grin to her face. She loved being right, but something she loved more was the ocean. Once she'd freed herself of her graveyard prison, that'd been the first place she'd headed. If only she'd gotten to stay longer. "I love the ocean," she chirped, joy over just the thoughts and memories of such a place bubbling out of her. That was the thing with Adrisse. Her emotions were strong, visible, and unapologetic. Only if her feelings put strain on someone else would she attempt to hide them, and so far that hadn't been the case. It made her seem like a bit of an airhead, but with gaining her freedom to live her life how she wanted in this second chance, why waste it being miserable and restrained? "I've never been to Colomdire. I'll have to add it to my list."
Now it was her turn to mentally prepare for a fight. The expression she had tensed just a little bit, though she was excited as well. Nothing was worse to her than boredom, and this was sufficiently interesting. The mystery of what they'd meet inside drove her to place her hand on the doorknob and give it a good twist, shoving it open and strolling in seemingly without a care. Would she get busted in the face? Maybe, but they had better knock her out because if she could get back up, they'd be in some real trouble. "Hellooo~? Anyone here?"

Kaiden let the awkwardness of his poor attempted verbal remedy sit for a few painfully long seconds. Honestly it was these types of situations that often ended up near the top ten of his worst fears. Offending someone who could probably kick his ass due to some stupid racial comment. He wasn't even confident that his apology or explanation was going to be enough to sway the girl next to him, or even fix the feeling he had inside him right now... However it seemed as though he had dodged a bullet this time. Luckily for both of them though, Adrisse said nothing of it. That certainly spared Kaiden from another painfully awkward (and probably just as pathetic) explanation/apology, and Adrisse from having to listen to it. He had just hoped she would forget about this entire experience so he wouldn't need to look over his shoulder for the next little while. People were unpredictable, and in a place filled with beings capable of using dangerous magic, you had to be extra careful.
Kaiden couldn't help but grin a bit and relax as Adrisse claimed how she loved the ocean. He hadn't met many people who didn't. Of course Kaiden was biased towards it as well, being raised on it your entire life would do that to a person. You still had to get used to a few things, though. The stench of raw salt and dead fish for one. That was often a dealbreaker for people looking for new things to be amazed by. If your first experience with the sea was the slaughter docks of Colomdire, than he could see why some found it distasteful. Not to him, though. His entire childhood was spent tearing through the remains of dead sea creatures so they could be cooked and sold in the markets, or to the massive corporations that ran food distribution to the rest of the continent. Now he wasn't exactly sure what Adrisse's experience was like with the ocean, but he could probably guess she didn't like it for the same reasons he did. Nostalgia played a huge factor every time he saw the pictures of the northern ocean or even heard the waves of the river banks. "Aye, I highly recommend it. Colomdire is the oldest city in Mistere!" Kaiden responded with a cheerful tune. He didn't mind bragging about his home, if it helped other people love it as much as he did.
When the pair arrived at the old shop, Adrisse was first to make a move. Forcefully opening the door and announcing their arrival. Kaiden said nothing but silently stepped into the place with her. It was dark. In front of them were rows of shelves with all manner of weird trinkets. Odd masks from Hisakawa, tribal necklaces, dangerous looking rusted blades. Everything you'd expect from an old shady antique shop... Except there were no people. Finally after a few more seconds of silence, someone showed themselves. Coming from a room behind the main counter, a shorter human with a wide stomach and black hair. He took one look at Kaiden and Adrisse and his eyes widened slightly before he quickly turned and ran back into the doorway from where he came. "H- Hey!" Kaiden yelled, quickly running forwards, vaulting over the counter and following the short fat man inside the the hallway. Kaiden had been here once before, and knew the building's layout. If Jimbo was still here he'd have to be in the room just ahead...
And apparently so were 6 other men... Kaiden stopped at the doorway to see them all staring directly at him. The man he had been chasing gone from view. However, that mattered little now as his true target lay in wait on the other side. Jimbo appeared confused, but not afraid of Kaiden's presence. "Heh... I see you managed to catch that filthy rat. I knew I should've paid him less for his obviously flawed job. Who's your pretty friend?" Kaiden glared. "The only rat here is you! Now I know what you've been doing, and you can sure as hell bet it ends now. I'm not going to let you swindle anyone else." He said, ignoring his question directed towards Adrisse, unsheathing his blade from his back, and getting ready for a fight...
"You ready?"

Was she ready? Of course she was. Her hazel eyes were bright and her grin was wild in response to Kaiden. Now this was excitement!
Her first attack, despite her potentially intimidating readiness to take part in a fight, was pretty embarrassing. As one of the six brandished a pathetic excuse for a thug's knife and stepped forward, Adrisse had been more than happy to meet him with her own bigger blade, unshrinking a viking sword she had stashed away. Just as blades met with the tinny clang of metal on metal, the man made a cheeky move on the girl and confirmed her foreshadowing thoughts earlier by busting her right in the mouth with his free fist. He was quite a bit bigger than her in more than one way, bald as an egg on top though the stubble on his chin indicated he'd once had blond hair. The force send her back onto her butt, though she didn't stay there long. "Wrong move, No-Brows," the mutt spat, ridding her mouth of the irony taste while she rose. Man, he'd busted her bottom lip real good. But, in the end, he should have hit her harder. Letting her rise again would do him nor his thug buddies any favors.
With a slight growl, she rushed at him, ducking the knife and the fist only to spin in close contact range. Her turning body added momentum, so when she lashed out her leg on the last turn and sank it deep into his gut, it was his turn to go sprawling. Reaching into a pocket, she drew out a bubble. There was a speck inside, barely visible. Hands glowing white, she tossed the bubble over No-Brows, the glow intensifying once it was over his leg. The bubble popped and a large boulder appeared from the spec, landing hard on his leg and pinning it to the floor. It was probably broken by the way the man howled, a poor imitation of a canine's howl mind you, but either way he was immobilized.
Fairly pissed off about her throbbing lip and taking an injury in front of her potential new friend, she laid the fury on thick when her eyes locked on the short stocky bodyguard that aimed to be her next opponent. Her body crouched low, as potato man and she met eyes, but just seconds later she disappeared as if she'd never been there. In fact, she hadn't moved, but simply activated a church grim's trait of being entirely undetectable. No one could smell, see, hear, or touch her. She changed her position for the angle of her attack, then powerful legs launched her forward. Just before impact her body reappeared and plowed into his middle, tackling him into a wall. Before he could retaliate, she'd disappeared again. This pattern continued to provide an onslaught of unanticipated blows to the second man until he stopped moving, at which point she reappeared and looked around for Kaiden. Hopefully he was fairing well.

Kaiden admired her fire to be sure. The fact that she was willing to all in at once like that was a breath of fresh air. Compared to the people he normally met within these kinds of situations. This wasn't Kaiden's first time with criminals anyways. Mystopolis was a big city, and he found himself having to be more and more careful all the time. Luckily, he was a decent fighter, and he had a massive suit of magical armor that helped him take down the bigger ones. Of course, Kaiden didn't have a ton of time to watch Adrisse's skill. He soon found himself in a similar situation, as two of Jimbo's grunts moved towards him. Kaiden got into his stance and prepared to fight them. He wasn't going to bother using Dark Steel to deal with these pushovers. That and he was worried if he did, he might go a little overboard and seriously injure or even kill someone. And like he had stated before, that was the LAST thing he was looking to do in this encounter.
He was a lot lighter and faster than his opponents he noticed. They lumbered towards him predictably, and Kaiden aimed to take full advantage of that fact. His footwork was far superior, and all he needed to do was sidestep the first man's punch before moving his arm up to elbow him in the face! He stumbled out of Kaiden's way and straight into a nearby shelf along the wall. Smirking, Kaiden spun around the other man's attack with a bat, and ended up directly behind him! Standing back to back for only a second before the fat man spun to try and strike him again! Kaiden, however, predicted this, and was already at his side, tripping him up with his own feet! The man faltered to his hands and knees for a moment, dropping his bat. Kaiden took his blade and slammed the hilt of the weapon straight into the back of his head! He slumped to the ground, knocking him out cold on the spot! Now that the two men who tried to assault him were down and out, he turned to see how Adrisse was fairing. To no surprise, she seemed to be winning, but she wasn't exactly as lucky as Kaiden was. They had gotten a few good hits on her, but now she was about to finish. Kaiden's eyes widened slightly to see her vanish and reappear several times! She was spinning circles around her foe. He had no idea she was capable of doing stuff like that. It made him sort of jealous to be perfectly honest.
Like he predicted, she finished him off with a tackle into the wall. Kaiden chuckled as she looked back to him. "Nice going! Didn't know you could also turn invisible. Hear that, Jimbo?!" He yelled, turning towards the now cowering man in the corner of the room.

"If being a church grim has any perks, invisibility would be the best of them," Adrisse commented lightly, grinning a slightly bloody grin at Kaiden until a wince from the action stole it away. Reaching the back of her hand up, she smeared the blood away from her mouth, making a mental note to ice it later so she didn't look ridiculous. Looking him over, she was a little jealous. Perhaps her competitive streak was showing a little. "Not even a scratch on you, eh? I'll have to step it up," she commented with a teasing lilt. Invisibility and species perks or no, he'd taken his two down with no injury and she was sporting a split lip. She'd been careless. Perhaps if she'd been a little more willing to hurt them, but she couldn't have Kaiden thinking she was a dangerous savage, now could she?
Turning hazel eyes on the cowering man, her expression turned to one of a sneer. She slowly approached, like a wolf slowly circling its prey. "What will you do now?" Adrisse asked, coming to stand in front of him with her arms crossed. The state of the scammer was pitiful, yet she felt very little pity. He was undeserving. "How should we stop him from continuing his bad habits?" asked the grim, half rhetorically and half to her nearly scammed friend. Brown hair with hints of green shifted to the side as her head tilted in consideration. "Should we call the police? What else can we do to make sure this guy doesn't keep making such bad decisions...in addition to his choice of smell..." the girl scowled, waving a hand in front of her face. The closer she got to him, the stronger and more disgusting his scent was.

Adrisse commented on how being a Church Grim gave her the perks of invisibility. Odd, Kaiden had no idea she was one of those. They were significantly rarer from what he could remember, and their history wasn't exactly a pleasant one. Just knowing that, Kaiden could easily piece together some points of Adrisse's past. And like the name of her species, it was quite grim. Could explain her distrust in humans, if they were the ones responsible for her past life's demise. Of course, that was probably a very sensitive topic for her, so Kaiden would make a not not to bring it up unless it was needed. However he did learn something new about her species. Kaiden was unaware they were capable of turning invisible. That sounded like an awesome power to be perfectly honest. A lot better than teleportation in his opinion. As that's what he thought Adrisse was doing when he first saw her in action.
"Well, I'm mostly just trying not to ruin this pretty face of mine. My lack of lip bruises is probably a product of fear." Kaiden teased in response to her comment. Of course, now they needed to focus back on the matter at hand. At Adrisse's question, Kaiden turned back towards Jimbo. The shorter, fat, and frankly awful smelling man was currently hiding behind a rather large steel cupboard, sweating bullets as he stared at the two people who just took out the only protection he had. Kaiden didn't respond immediately to Adrisse's question, instead he looked around the old room the two of them were situated in. From what he could tell, it was an old storage unit that Jimbo used to store his more 'valuable' merchandise. Otherwise known as the objects he had stolen back from the people he had sold them too originally. That's when he noticed an old desk with a lamp on it. Strewn across its surface were multiple papers and one of the knocked out thugs Jimbo had sent against the pair. Kaiden walked over towards it, grabbing the thug by the collar of his shirt and quickly dragged him off the wooden surface. Sitting on the desk was a massive open book, with various dates, names, numbers, and other information. It only took Kaiden a few seconds, but he quickly concluded this was some sort of ledger! This is how he kept track of his sales, clients, and the objects he sold to them. Jimbo was smart to write it all down on paper, otherwise that information could be stolen by hackers if he made anyone suspicious about his business practices.
And that's when Kaiden got an idea.
He smirked and turned back towards Adrisse and Jim. "Let's expose the thief out in public." He said, tapping the ledger. "We contact all of these people anonymously and tell them to come to this location. Then they'll find all of their stolen possessions sitting right next to our good friend here, tied upside down by the roof of the building. This ledger pinned to his chest as proof."
