It was a calm day. The sky above was blue and the breeze gentle. Birds could be heard in the area along with insects and other critters that lived about the plains. The area seemed like the best place to take a nice walk in or even relax in It was just that peaceful. It was in this field that a young girl played a short distance from her family, enjoying the warmth of the air and all the butterflies and flowers she could find to play with. As she played and her parents chatted, the girl stumbled upon a butterfly unlike the others. It was a creature shaded crimson in color.
As it fluttered about the area, it would leave a trail of crimson dust as if it was some sort of magical creature in disguise. A thought that made the girl grin from ear to ear as she dubbed the beautiful creature a fairy and the proceeded to try to catch it. She would try sneaking up on it first, but before she could even cup her hand around the creature it would flutter off to another flower. A bit disappointed at first, the girl would watch where it landed before becoming determined to catch the thing and followed. She would try all sorts of tricks trying to catch the creature, but each time the elusive butterfly would fly out of her grasp, so the chase went on.
The chase went on and on until the butterfly simply disappeared from sight leaving the girl confused and sad. Even more so when she realized she was no longer in the field, but rather in a large forest full of ancient trees that seemed to whisper and groan at her. The child became afraid and in turn began to search for a way out; however, no matter where she went the child became more and more lost until finally she too simply disappeared without a trace.
Her parents noticing their child was gone immediately began to search for what was lost in the field, but no amount of searching revealed the child’s location. The parents eventually left the field for the night, but always returned searching for their daughter. It is said that in time they too disappeared.
The field was perfect. The forest that rested at its edge a mystery no one dared entered. Yet it was at the very point that the field met the forest that a strange being appeared some days after the disappearance of the little girl and her family.
A lamb with a scarf like wolf lingering about it would stand in front of the forest with its ears tilting here and there to capture sounds that were around. Its eyes were focused on the forest that had caught its curiosity. And how did such a creature find out about such a place? Well that was simple. It had heard about the place from a village it had visited a few days back. A village that was full of fear and sadness. Upon hanging around the locals and listening to the tales they had to share amongst each other, the creature learned about the strange forest known as Allumanth Forest and upon some more digging even found a job that was asking someone to go and explore said forest. A job that no one seemed to want to touch due to the fact that this forest was supposedly haunted by spirits; however, spirits were no deter for this creature. In fact, it was just enough for the creature to take the flyer and in turn the job. Which led it to be standing where it was right now.
The reason for wanting to explore the forest was simple. The creature wanted to catalog what was in there and create a map of the place that had yet to be explored. While this job was exciting to the creature, it didn’t rush into the place right away both because it wasn’t dumb and it was also waiting for another who had also taken the job to arrive.
So it waited and listened to the world around it, trying to get a sense of just what was beyond those trees without going in just yet.
