welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Fire and smoke. That was all Cyn saw. ALl around her nothing but a swirling cyclone of bright orange fire, and yet throughout it all she remained herself. Unharmed. Unchanged. For the fires of the mortal creations had no effect on her... But their magic was an entirely different story.
She tried to get up. Failure. She tried to again. Failure again. THe strength in her limbs receding, her breath short, and her chest screaming at her as it filled with the normally toxic fumes. Blood. That is what she saw next. Trickling from her mouth, drops of blood hit the hot ground and evaporated almost instantly in the intense heat of the fire storm around her. The draconian looked up and saw something. The sun. A dim dot glimmering through the black smoke and hot fire. It mocked her. She only wanted to extend her wings and fly to it... But that was not possible. Not now. Not anymore. Not when so much had changed in so little time. First the tubes, then the screams, the smells... And then the blood. So much blood... Only, it wasn't hers anymore, was it? Not that it mattered at this point. The heat was too intense and the fires were so close... All she could do was wrap her wings around her body and let the darkness take her...
The accident had been abandoned for quite some time now. What was once a highly advanced research lab was nothing more than a blackened ruin. How long had it been? Days? Months? Years? Nobody knew, because technically this place didn't officially exist. A hidden ruin deep within the forest. The only sign of life in this memory was a pair of tall purple dragon wings, encased in stone near the center.

For a job that was primarily number crunching, there was more fieldwork for Ozaki than one might otherwise suspect. As one of the few people who worked in inventory that had a Mastery in Hunting, they took quite a few opportunities to take advantage of that. Having one of those for a inventory position made him just a tad overqualified.
Ozaki was fine with that though. Sometimes it was nice to have a day out of the office. But he wished he’d been given more warning than this. But apparently someone just neeeeeded to have their elemental newts tomorrow and they couldn’t have been bothered to turn in the form in a timely matter. Normally this would be cause for them to be denied, but this was a teacher who was known for being violate, so they decided to put Ozaki on the case rather than risk their wraith.
The vampire was was wearing his normal shirt and vest combo, as well as a dark brown trench coat with a backpack slung over his shoulder. He’d gotten most of the elemental newts he’d needed when he came across a ruin.
Ozaki had been about to pass it when he saw something purple within. Curiosity getting the better of him, he removed a blood-dart from one of the two small pouches visible on his belt.
As he got closer her saw that it was a pair of draconic wings. Did they need any dragon parts back at the warehouse? Well it couldn’t hurt to grab it either way. Judging on the size of the wings it was either a child or a small breed of dragon. Oh wait… There was the possibility it wasn’t dead, and if it was one of those sentient breeds of dragons that would pose a problem.
Well not a problem per say… It’d just mean he’d have to focus his energies on saving the thing rather than slaying it… Assuming it didn’t try to kill him first. Then it was fair game if it didn’t listen to reason. Still a bit legally dicey… But then again so where some of the things back in the warehouse. All legally acquired by the word of law, but anyone who just walked in randomly might be a little… Horrified.
Ozaki shook his head as he finally arrived at the pile of rubble. Best not to be having those kinds of thoughts if the dragon was alive and sentient. If that were the case he would honestly rather not kill it. He tucked the dart up in his sleeve for easy access should he need it at a second's notice. It'd be best if he at least was not perceived to be carrying a weapon when it saw him. Even if that was distinctly not the case.
“Hey… I’m going to help you out of there. So don’t freak out.” He said in the best soothing voice he could manage. He internally winced as his teenage voice cracked in the middle of the sentence. Damn the man who had turned him at this age. He then started removing rubble, trying to be careful so that he did not topple the pile and cause even more damage. As he removed piece by piece he eventually came to see that it was not a dragon as he had initially suspected, but a draconian. As a man who had done much research on the world’s many species in his youth to cure his ignorance, he knew from a glance what she was now that he got a proper look at her. Poor thing.

The pain was hot. So hot. As light began to return to Cyn's world, so did the red embrace of the pain that accompanied the moving of rubble encased around her body. Her wings were the only things keeping the worst of it from crushing her, but they had taken a severe beating. They were now tattered and torn, black blood oozing from their deep stone cuts. The vampire found her and tried to get her out. A successful venture for the most part, but it didn't make the process hurt any less. It's what woke her from her sleep.
As the vampire shifted the stone, the entire column quaked under the stress and then the draco's eyes opened! Her white pupils widened and she screamed. Although the sound was weak and exhausted, Cyn couldn't hold back the pain of the process. When she went under, the coma she was in blocked out the pain from having her wings almost crushed by stone and steel. However, now that she was awake she could feel everything. Tears streamed from her eyes as the rubble was cleared finally and the girl lay in the ruins on her side. Her draconic wing extended upwards! THe sheer size of the wing was incredible, it was so wide and long it completely blocked out the moon, aside from the tattered skin where little streams of moonlight still shone through. Cyn lifted herself up, or more accurately *tried* to and was met with more heavy breathing that tried to drown out her cries of pain.
She didn't notice the man who helped her at first, but he would see that the Draconian was wearing a black tattered and ripped trench coat with dirty white buttoned shirt underneath and black pants. No shoes. Cyn's other wing extended, but it was obvious by its shape that it was severely crippled and just by moving it the girl yelled in pain again. Finally, after using an arm to hold her upper body off the ground she turned and saw Ozaki. Her eyes widened with tears streaming down them staring deep into his eyes... Who was this man? She did not recognize him at all. Had he saved her?
She only met him with silence... The draconian still unaware of her own transformation. It had all happened so fast, she didn't even have time to register it.

Ozaki held both of his hands up in a gesture of peace. Usually the gesture was also a sign to show that one was not armed as well. “I’m here to help.” He repeated, going with the assumption she had only been properly conscious since she had started screaming.
He took a cautious step forward. “I’m not a doctor. But if you can trust me I can lessen the pain for you and get you to one.” Should she be moved though? Well. He couldn’t get a reception here, so hopefully once the pain was dulled she would be able to. Maybe he could carry her… It’ d be a bit tough given her huge size and his own smaller size, but his vampiric strength would give him a leg up at least. She could at least stand in this state though. So there was a start there.

Finally the kid spoke again. He said he was here to help. Maybe that was true. Maybe he was the one who saved her from this terrible fate after all. Although... Something was strange. Why did he look so big. At least bigger than most humans appeared to her. Cyn blinked a few times at Ozaki before lowering her head and seeing her arms.
These weren't her arms.
Her breath quickened and Cyn's eyes widened even more as she frantically looked over her own body, panicking! Wrong move. The pain was back. Cyn yelled when she moved her broken wing again and collapsed on her stomach, her eyes still wide with shock. What had happened to her!?! What had those monsters done to her body?! First they had to torture her, butcher her son, and then transform her into one of them?!
"N- Nononono... P- Please wake up.. This- This isn't real...." Cyn muttered to herself before hearing the man speak again. She lifted her head and looked at him. He was still here. He offered his help in curing her pain. Could he do that? Could he possibly think he had the power to fix this!?
Cyn shakily nodded her head.
"P- Please... Just wake me up.." She asked him through hopeless eyes.

She looked like she had never seen her own body before. It was a look Ozaki could sympathize with, yet even given that he did not know how to help in this moment. He crouched down so that he wasn’t just standing over her. “I can’t fix what happened to you.” He said softly. He could only assume that however she had turned into this, it had not been willing or knowing on her part.
From the knowledge of what a draconian was alone he could guess that, but the fact she was unwilling to accept that this was reality was the nail in the coffin there. He felt woefully inadequate to comfort her. “I’m so sorry.”

He was sorry. Sorry. Sorry for what exactly? Sorry for the pain jolting through her body? Sorry for the form she had taken? Sorry for the months of torture and experimentation that had been done on her? How could he know any of that? How could he be sorry. A bitter taste in Cyn's mouth formed as Ozaki tried, yet failed to comfort the draconian. He was right about not being able to fix her though. Cyn knew that much, even if she didn't want to believe it.
All Cyn could do now was cry. She didn't care if a lowly mortal was watching her, she had already been beaten by them. The form she took was their doing, and as far as she knew it was completely permanent. She was defeated. Her large wings began to fold again, the girl grunting in pain as her crooked one shifted back into its position. Finally summoning all the strength she could with this new body, the dragon hoisted herself up and leaned her back against the rubble. Her legs sprawled in an awkward position. Truth she had no idea how to move them. She was not used to having only two legs instead of four... Cyn just lowered her head as she sat there, sobbing quietly in front of Ozaki for a few minutes before remembering he was there.
She looked back up to him with the same hopeless gaze. He looked to be a child. Cyn had no idea what a child was doing here. Did the mongrel mortals think so low of one another that they'd send their own young to these types of dangerous places? She couldn't even begin to guess, but nothing was off the table at this point. She was, after all, lowered to their level now.
After finally composing herself somewhat, Cyn finally spoke again. This time more clearly. "Why... Why have you come to help me, little vampire?" she asked in a tone that was both genuine but somewhat suspicious. His presence was strange to Cyn. WHo was he, and why was he here? Of course, being a vampire Cyn could theorize that this kid could be much older than he appeared, just like Cyn was. "Have you come to suck my blood?" She asked again, leaning over to see the black blood drip from a wound on her wing...

Little vampire. He did his best to stamp out his twinge of annoyance at that. She didn’t need someone getting angry at her right now. It wasn’t her fault he looked like a child. “I’m not a kid. I only look like one because…” He debated what to say next. He’d recently gotten to meet the man who had changed him and actually learned why this had happened. Of course though he didn’t make a policy of sharing his sob story with just anyone. But Cyn was most likely in the same boat as him if his knowledge on draconians was anywhere near on point. Distantly he wondered if becoming a vampire might be able to forestall her inevitable fate. Could The Blight spread if her body was physically frozen in time?
“Reasons.” He ended lamely. “I’m just here because I saw you were in trouble, that’s all.” The fact that he had mistaken her as a full blown dragon at first and had been thinking that if she were dead he could take the body back to the storehouse was something he was obviously choosing to omit. Though draconian parts were even rarer, he wasn’t going to allow her to be chopped up for parts when she was alive.
“And no. I’m not going to suck your blood. For one, black blood’s generally not recommended.” He didn’t know whether this was the right thing to say in this case to comfort her that he wasn’t just looking to drink it. But black blood usually did mean that there was some sort of curse in it. In the case of a draconian that curse was obvious to anyone who had read as much as him what the nature of it was. Drinking it would not turn him into a draconian of course, but there was no telling what method had been used to turn her into this. He’d already had a recent stint with black blood that had been disguised to look normal. Ozaki wasn’t gunning for another. “Besides. I’m set on that front anyways.”
He literally had a blood pack on him right now if he started to get hungry or was wounded some how and lost blood. Given her distrust of his species however, he was hesitant to share that fact. She might be squeamish around blood. Heaven knew he could be sometimes.

So he was actually here to help her? Or were these just more lies. Was he expecting her to be dead, and just trying to lower Cyn's guard? She honestly had no idea at this point, but no matter what Cyn knew not to trust him. She couldn't afford to. If he was being truthful about helping her, she'd let him, but would keep a careful watch on where his hands were... And his fangs.
Cyn coughed slightly, a bit of blood still dripping from her mouth and for the first time in a while she smiled. "Picky eater are you?" She chuckled before grimacing and holding her stomach as she coughed again. It was clear she had suffered more than just a wing injury, but she wasn't exactly sure what. Other than her wings her body felt fine. Something else was happening, and she wasn't sure was. Maybe it was just a side effect of adapting to this new form. That's what she had hoped at least. Yet she couldn't shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong... Besides being transformed that was. Cyn put a hand to her mouth and looked at the black blood dripping off her finger. She frowned. The vampire was right, her blood was black... It hadn't always been. "That's... Not supposed to be that colour..." Cyn muttered looking at the dark liquid. It was clear that Cyn was painfully unaware of the sickness she now carried. A curse that every Dracoinain was doomed to have.
Ozaki explained that he wasn't a kid, but was reluctant to tell the whole story. Understandable. She wouldn't be too keen on unraveling her life story to a stranger either if she were in his shoes. But that didn't cure her curiosity about the kid. She still had many questions...
"So.. What now little vampire?" Cyn asked. "You have the ability to heal my sorry state yourself?" She asked before coughing again, more blood dripping from her lips.

“You have no idea.” Ozaki muttered under his breath at her mentioning that he was a picky eater. It was still a bit annoying that she was calling him little vampire. But given her condition he’d let it slide for now.
How likely was it that dragons knew what draconians were, he had to wonder. He only knew because of his obsessive research into this world’s many species, heedless of obscurity. To both have gone and be working at Eldritch Academy, it would almost be foolishness not to put that much effort in. How was one supposed to tell someone they were doomed to die? She had no idea. In seeing that she was coughing up blood he made a mental note to himself to avoid any pain killers that could double as blood thinners. One of his local anesthetics would be better as well, but if he did that he might have to inject at least three points in the wing to get the whole area given its size. “I can’t fix your wing or... or your current condition. But I can at least make it so it doesn’t hurt as much. I can make a pain killer for your wing so movement won’t be so painful. Then we can get you to a doctor who can get a better read of your internal condition as well.” Maybe they’d know how to break it to her... though it was possible he might have to explain to them what a draconian was before they could.
That’d be funny if her inevitable fate wasn’t so tragic. Ozaki was hoping she did not take his offer badly. “I mean... if you don’t trust me with all of that though wouldn’t blame you. Most people don’t take well from strangers in the woods offering to inject them with chemicals when they don’t even know their names... haha.” His laugh was strained as he rubbed the back of his unkempt hair with a hand, which he then extended in the gesture of a handshake. “I guess I should introduce myself. My name’s Yuuki Ozaki.”

The more he spoke the more it made sense. Cyn could obviously tell by now that Ozaki was not a child, even without his imparted knowledge about the subject. He also seemed to be quite knowledgeable about Cyn's current situation. Odd for a mere mortal to be so smart. At least, that's what Cyn had figured anyways. She never really spoke to their kind. In fact, when she was still a dragon she was incapable of vocal speech, so most of them had no idea how to communicate. Most assumed she was nothing more than an animal... That thought process claimed the lives of many ignorant adventurers who thought they could bring down the great Plasma Drake that Cyn once was. She wondered what kind of reputation she had among Ozaki's kind. Mainly the bugs that scurried around the surface of this country, claiming it belonged to them just because they built their ugly, fragile towers of stone across the land. During the height of Cyn's reign, she was known to them as the great Plasma Drake due to her unique dragon breath. Sadly, it seemed those days were over.
When Ozaki stated that he was incapable of fixing her wing or her current form, Cyn sighed and lowered her head. She had expected as much, but that didn't stop the glimmer of hope from thinking otherwise. However, the vampire did offer another, temporary solution. He could get rid of the pain. That sounded useful, and Cyn really had no other options at this point. He went on to state that he understood if Cyn didn't trust him, and he was completely right... She didn't.
However, what choice did she have? If this vampire wanted to inject her with some sort of poison or sleeping agent, there wasn't really anything she could do to prevent him. She had no idea what sort of defensive capabilities this new form had, and her wings were too damaged and too painful to move to act as any sort of ward against attack. The fact that Ozaki actually took the time to talk to her when he could've easily incapacitated the Draconian at any time he wished was telling. She believed he was being genuine.
"I- If you think you can... I would be grateful little vampire.." Cyn said, coughing again. He finally introduced himself as Yuuki Ozaki. Two names. Why did these insects always have more than one name? It was confusing to the drake. Cyn debated giving her own name, but it would be too long and hard to pronounce for these lesser creatures. Cyn thought for a moment in her head, deciphering her own dragon tongue to shorten the name in a form easy enough for someone like Ozaki to understand and say.
"Pleasure, Ozaki... You may call me... Cyn."

Oh yah… What else would she have called him if he hadn’t introduced himself in the first place? Duh. Suddenly it seemed blindingly obvious. He put down the hand that had been offered to shake hers without much bother. He supposed she just may not have recognized the gesture, or was in too much pain to really be focusing on mannerisms that weren't of her own kind's. When Cyn gave her consent Ozaki removed two darts from his pouch. He did a few mental calculations in his head before activating his talent and changing the blood within into a transparent fluid that would have the right concentration needed.
“I’ll be using a local anesthetic so you’ll still be able to walk to where we’re going.” He might be able to carry her, but if she could walk she might as well. Also, knocking out a woman in the woods was all sorts of shady he wasn’t going to do. “I’ll need to use two of them to be sure to get your whole wing. It’ll sting a bit, but after a bit the pain will go away.”
When she said her own name his mind went on a small internal tangent.
Cyn. Like Sin? Ozaki briefly wondered. Or Cynder? Either way he wasn’t going to ask, but he was also now thinking about an old video game. And now even more so considering the purple and gold colors were making him think of a dragon in that game. Shush. Not the time for that.
He was glad she’d used his last name though.

Cyn nodded to Ozaki when he explained the science to her about the liquid and how'd he needed to use more than one to get her entire wing. She didn't really understand it, but she could tell he knew what he was talking about, so she could only trust he knew what he was doing as well. If not, well, what else did Cyn have to lose at this point? The dragon winced slightly when the darts hit her large tattered wing, but soon the pain subsided completely and a numb sense washed over the entire wing. Odd, she had never experienced this feeling before. It felt as if her entire wing wasn't even there anymore... It made her curious about the substance that Ozaki used. Did he make it himself? What were all its effects? And most importantly... What other substances could be created in the same manner as this one? And what could their effects be? Cyn pondered the question for a little too long, drifting out of sync with the rest of the world until her attention was stolen back by the vampire.
"So.. Where exactly are we going?" Cyn asked after hearing that the vampire had some sort of plan already set in motion. Odd, she didn't expect Ozaki to really do anything else for her at this point. She was still surprised he even cared in the first place. The members of his kind she had met previously war far less friendly than him. Of course, moving also presented a challenge. While Cyn's legs didn't appear to be damaged in any way, she still had no idea how this body worked. She had figured out basic motor functions with her arms due to pure survival instinct, but her legs felt completely different than they did before...
"Also... Why are you even here?" Cyn finally asked Ozaki. From her understanding this place had been destroyed a while ago, and it wasn't exactly a public attraction. The people who ran this lab liked to keep its existence hidden from the rest of the world. Ozaki being here was suspicious. Cyn didn't know how, but she had a feeling that he was somehow connected to the family that owned this place... The family that killed her. How else would Ozaki know about this place? Did he really just stumble across it?

Would telling her his job title freak her out? If she actually thought about what it meant, maybe. But given the fact that he’d had a complete opportunity to knock her out easily and hadn’t taken it, surely that must merit some about of trust. Unless she’d think that he was only keeping her awake to spare himself the trouble of carrying her some place that could carve her up fresh and sterile.
Oh Selene that was a disgusting thought he had. Just awful. Ozaki would never do that. Even the thought turned him a little green. Or at least it would if he physically could turn that color. He turned from her to give himself a moment to clear his head, pointing in the direction of where they were going. “T-there’s a teleport pad about a mile or so from here that’ll take us into Eldritch Academy.” The school had quite a few set up across the country for easy transportation to various jobs. It cut down on travel time a lot. “From there I’ll know a good doctor nearby who works in the ER. Also as to your previous question, I work with the Academy and was… Collecting things.”
Oh jeez he’d just made himself sound worse with that pause didn’t he? “For a job.” His job. Geez he always made things worse when he got nervous. Why'd he have to go think something like that?

Cyn's keen senses almost instantly recognized the nervousness that followed her question from Ozaki. She had gotten used to picking up those kinds of signals from the mortals before. They always reeked of fear or anxiety whenever she interacted with them. Of course, that was normally because Cyn was a massive dragon and capable of burning people alive within half a second (which tended to happen a lot) but that was obviously not the case now with Ozaki. He was not scared of her, she knew that much. Who would be in this pathetic form? She was one of them, and they were not frightening in the slightest. He was nervous about something else, but Cyn couldn't figure out what exactly. She'd need to keep a careful watch for any tricks the little vampire had in store for her. Perhaps he was working for someone, judging by the very vague answer she got concerning his reasoning for being here. Maybe he was working for them... Cyn's blood boiled at the thought and she could feel the bones in her body crack with anger...
The kid mentioned a teleportation pad and some place called "Eldritch Academy". She didn't know what that place was, but Ozaki seemed to think there was a doctor there that could help her. At least help her wings. Cyn doubted any of these people had the knowledge or mental capacity to cure her of this wretched, terrible, shape. "I've never heard of this place..." Cyn began, looking off in the direction Ozaki had pointed. "Do the people there taste good?" She turned to face him with a dark grin. A joke, obviously, but one with an underlying tone that told Ozaki she had experience. She figured he'd understand more than most, seeing as he was a vampire. Even though Ozaki didn't strike Cyn as a typical vampire that fed on the flesh of the living.
Cyn coughed again, more blood this time. Her head was getting dizzy. She shook it and looked back at Ozaki with glossy eyes. "Well... We should... we should get moving, right?" Cyn said, sounding noticeably more tired than before.
