welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

Ryse scowled slightly at him. "Well she's not here, is she? I'm not asking you to be in the same room with me. You can meditate or whatever it is you do in the living room if you wanted. Or by the front door, far away from me. I don't care. As long as you're there and don't leave, that's all I'm asking for." Was it really so hard for him to do that? It wasn't like she was asking him to go jump into a pool of lava for her. She was just asking him to watch the house for a few days.
She would've crossed her arms if she weren't holding her mother's egg. "And if you're worried about her kicking your icy butt then you won't have to worry until she grows up again. Then you can scream and run for the hills all you want."

Oras scoffed in response to her last statement. “If you think I’m scared of her think again. Come on let’s just get you home.” Oras said nothing from then on and walked in front of her. Thus hiding the mixed emotions of awkwardness, embarrassment, and fear. Fear that he would lose a potential friend after this was all over. He could almost hear his first summoner questioning why he was treating her this way but he dismissed that thought. Oras already knew why he was doing this. A wild wolf and it’s pack emerged from a nearby hill and growled at them. Before it could even howl or call the others to attack, which it was clear they were going to do. Oras snapped his fingers towards them and froze the first wolf solid, causing the others to yelp in fear and run for the hills. Ryse couldn’t see Oras’ face right now. But a shadow weighed over his eyes.

All the while Ryse followed behind Oras, silent as she gently carried the egg. She hadn't thought they'd traveled as far as they had. Nothing looked familiar to her; if the Atronach hadn't been with her she would've been in trouble for sure. She was injured, and carrying precious cargo. Taking on that pack of wolves was something she wouldn't be able to do.
When they finally arrived at her home after what felt like forever of walking, she inwardly sighed in relief. "Thank you, Oras." She couldn't read the expression on his face. Was he upset? Sad? She just didn't know. Was he mad at her?

The Glacier Atranoch opened the door and left it open as he walked in. He conjured a piece of form seven ice in the fireplace, instantly causing a fiery blaze to ignite before calming into a gentle flame. “Warm yourself up. Pretty sure Phoenix eggs are supposed to be warm too.” He walked over to get some ice from the fridge when he heard Ryse thank him. His instinct was to stop his movements but he forced himself to keep going like nothing was the matter. “Your welcome. I only helped you come to terms with your lineage, mended matters with your mother, and ensured you would never ever be bullied, threatened or assaulted ever again. No biggie.” He popped an ice cube into his mouth like one would a pill before closing it shut. He turned to walk outside. “I’ll guard the perimeter ok? Make sure those assholes don’t come out of stupidity.”

Ryse frowned at the Atronach a little unhappily as he left the house. She had no idea how someone could be both nice and a jerk at the same time. She guessed Oras had a lot of practice perfecting the habit.
Gently resting the egg on a blanket that created a sort of nest, she transformed back into her hybrid form, shaking some water that still clung to her fur. The movement caused her to wince as it jostled her injuries, mostly her wing and her ribs, making her regret doing so. Carefully, she laid down in front of the fireplace, curling around the egg, her injured wing spread a little awkwardly while she rested her head on her paws, covering her nose with her tail. She eyed the egg for a while, watching the firelight shine off of its smooth orange/red surface. The fire was warm on her fur, stopping her shivers within a few minutes. Soon she was dozing comfortably in front of the fireplace, her brows furrowed only slightly caused by the pain in her wing and her ribs, before quickly falling asleep.

Oras stepped outside and took a moment to take a very deep breath before exhaling it… This wasn’t going to be an easy time for him, hell no. Far from it. Oras walked over to the side of the house where he sat down and leaned against it. There was no way he could meditate with hot weather like this. If he was in it too long he may get a cold… But he couldn’t just go back inside, it would be a nightmare. Oras pulled the scarf Inglisse had made for him for Christmas and wrapped it around himself, feeling his temperature cool down a little as he tried to relax. This was gong to be a very, very long night…
Eventually morning shone down on them. Oras had not re entered the building and instead had moved over to the top of the hill next to the house. Standing at the top of it still wearing his powder blue scarf, his sword at his side.

Blinking open eyes blurred with sleep, Ryse lifted her head, giving a jaw cracking yawn. Sometimes waking up at the crack of dawn was a curse; due to the events that happened yesterday she'd went to sleep far later than she usually did, and so was more tired than usual. Gazing back down at the egg she'd been curled around the entire night, she saw that there weren't any changes. It didn't move, nor were any sounds heard within it. It was as still as a stone. She didn't know what she was expecting exactly. She wasn't sure how long it took for trials to be completed. It had only been a few hours after all. Even still, a small part of her was disappointed.
Sitting up and stretching, she stood up and made her way around the house, looking for Oras. His scent was slightly faint. Had he not been in the house the entire night? Did it mean he'd been patrolling this entire time? Frowning slightly, she padded up to the front door, using a forepaw to open the handle and walking outside. Craning her head left, then right, she spotted him on the hill and made her way over to him, sitting gingerly beside him, wincing slightly as she did so.
"Morning." She said hesitantly. She wasn't sure if he would still be in the same strange mood he'd been in yesterday.

Oras gazed at the sunrise in silence. He had a lot on his mind but at the same time nothing. The glacier atranoch just sat there with a piece of ice he conjured up earlier that night. He had been using a knife made of ice to carve the pieces. A sort of meditation and hobby he did while waiting. This one was essentially multiple random pieces put together. Thin hoop like pieces of different sizes, triangles, stars, all sorts of shapes and pieces. It was designed so that if you poured a little energy into it, the pieces would rotate on the iron sticks holding them all together. Kind of like a fidget spinner, only.. A lot smaller and a WHOLE lot more complex. When he heard Ryse approach however he quickly melted the object as well as the knife. When she sat down she hesitated before greeting him. “Yes, yes it is. Astute observation there captain obvious.”

Ryse rolled her eyes at the Atronach's reply. "Someone's not a morning person, looks like. Have you been here all night?" Maybe that was why he was like this; even though it was morning the temperature was already warm. The humidity was always constant in the land of Hisakawa. It may dissipate until it was nearly gone at times, but it was always there. Today was no different. Ryse could almost see it in the air it was so thick. "You don't have to be out here the entire time, you know. It's a lot cooler inside. I'd rather not have my friend melting before we return to school."
She tilted her head curiously as she thought about what Oras had been doing before she padded up to him. What were you doing earlier? Making something?"

Oras ignored her comment on him not being a morning person. In truth he wasn’t an anything person. Because he didn’t need to sleep he didn’t have the same mental mood swings other species had in the morning and night hours. Because of that he could easily ignore her comment. When she asked if he’d been here all night however: “Obviously.” He said simply. No snarky comeback that time. Cause he was nice like that. When she stated how he didn’t have to be outside the entire time he almost said: ‘Oh cool, let me drop the defenses in that case and come inside.’… Actually he would say that. “Oh cool, let me drop the defenses in that case and come inside then.” When she called him her friend he scoffed, hiding the fear stirring from that word. “You sure you won’t want a glass of water for the journey?”
When she asked him what he was doing earlier he spoke again… In a sarcastic tone. “Why yes actually! I was looking through the forests of nosiness, and into the mines of intrusivity, searching for the rare materials known as eaves and dropping, to make the mystical device of ‘not your business’. It’s really quite a fascinating tale.”

The teenager scowled at him, smacking him upside the head with her noninjured wing. "Stop being rude, Oras." She snapped, curling her lip at him as she looked down at him, ears flattening against her head. "You were just fine a few days ago. What's happened since then, huh? Did your manners suddenly fly out of your head?"
Really... what was his problem? He was a lot nicer a few days ago! Was it because she'd asked him to help out around the house? Was that really such a big deal that he'd turn snarky like he was? She didn't see why that or any other reason would cause his change in attitude.

Oras just turned and glanced at her with a raised eyebrow as if to say “really?”. He was entirely made of ice, thus couldn’t exactly feel her smack him. And since it was a wing, he felt mostly feathers than strong flesh or bone. When she asked what happened to him he just chuckled. “You’re so adorable when you’re angry. Does the nonsense always spew out or only when you’re frustrated?” With that the Atranoch stood up. “I helped you with an issue you and your mother never could figure out. And I’d like to see you actually talk to the council let alone get them to help you. So your welcome, it’s over, moving on kid.”

"So that's it then? You were only nice because you were helping me. And now that you're done you think you can treat me like you had before all of this started?" The fur on Ryse's hackles stood up, a growl rumbling in her chest as she glared at him. "News flash, jerk. That's not how friends treat each other."
A thousand different things went through her mind. She was trying to think of a reason why he would act this way. Why would he say all these things? Why…..? Was it something she had done? Was it something she had said? She couldn't think of anything she could've possibly done to upset him. So what was it?

Oh he had to say it didn’t he? Shit. This was the worst part every time. He looked at her with slight confusion. “You realize I never said we were that right? You said it.” With that he turned and walked over to the house and walked inside. Once he was alone he breathed a little heavier. Taking deep breaths not because he needed to due to some biological malfunction, but as a sort of meditation. Something to help him mentally relax. He took some more ice from the fridge and popped it into his mouth before walking into Ryse’s mother’s room. He closed the door behind him as he looked to see what was inside… Inside his friend’s room.

Ryse froze, silent as she watched Oras walk into the house. Her brain spun as she looked at the now closed door, not moving a muscle. She’d considered him a friend, but she hadn’t thought that he wouldn’t consider her one too.
She stared at the door a few moments more, frozen in place, before she looked away and stood up. Instead of following Oras inside the house, she slowly turned and padded away, head lowered and tail drooping. Tears gathered in her eyes, but she blinked them away. She wasn’t going to cry. She wasn’t going to cry. Even if it felt like she’d been stabbed in the chest.
So he just did all of those things because he felt obligated to. Was that it? He only did it because she’d asked for his help? Nothing more than that? What about all the nice things he’d said to her before? And the hug that he told her not to tell her mother about? He wouldn’t do those things unless he felt some sort of caring towards her. How did he not consider her as a friend?? It was extremely confusing to her. And she was hurt by his words. She didn’t know what to think.
Ryse continued walking, not really caring where she was going. Turning invisible so that Oras couldn’t find her if he looked for her, she finally decided to head to the river nearby. She needed to wash her fur, and running water from a river was just as good as a shower. It would help offset the chill she felt. And the exhaustion that still plagued her; and it wasn’t because she’d gotten a few hours less of sleep than she usually did. She’d found it hard to get up this morning, which was unlike her.
Every step felt like she was walking through molasses. She knew exactly why she was feeling this way. It happened every month. Every phoenix had to go through it twelve times a year. As she walked, a few of her feathers from her wings dropped to the ground, and she coughed ash. She grimaced at the taste.
‘Molting sucks. And so does Oras.’
Eventually she made it to the river, and stepped into it, shivering a little from the cold, but wading in all the way anyways, careful not to upset her wing. Soon all that was left was her head, which was above water as she doggy-paddled around the river. When she felt that she was clean enough she stepped out and shook her fur vigorously, spraying water in all directions. She looked to where she could see her home in the distance. She didn’t want to go back so soon. She didn’t want to see Oras and hear his snarky attitude again. So instead she laid on a large flat stone which the sun shone down on, curling into a ball. Resting her head on her paws, she closed her eyes, dozing in the sun.
Meanwhile, while Oras was in Ryse’s mother’s room, the fire colored egg. Which was still in its makeshift blanket nest in front of the now barely lit fireplace. Wiggled just a tiny bit.
