welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The glacier atranoch stood in the mother’s room looking around. There were many war trophies from the massive onslaught. Oras still remembered that war. There were weapons too that Oras recalled very well. Feeling the steel of one or two of them from time to time. For a time he fought against both sides before siding with the Phoenixes. Technically the war was against all races so he teamed up with side to side to side until finally they formed alliances and he went with the one he deemed best suited. He wondered if her mother and he had ever crossed paths in that lifetime. Or even fought one another. Maybe even fought side by side. The latter was certainly a great possibility. At any rate he knew those blades and medals rather well. Though he didn’t care for trophies. His sword was the only prized possession he needed… Aside from his scarf of course.
Reaching the bookcase he looked through many of what she had. Ancient stories and tales long forgotten. Very good novels, this age had some pretty crappy storytelling. Though they did have a good one here and there. He then came across something interesting and pulled it out. an ancient book on the ancient phoenix language. Huh. So she still remembered how to speak it then? Interesting. He opened the book and went through the pages. Nostalgic memories flooding back to him. He remembered studying this with his first summoner. A ghost of a smile touched his lips.
Then he saw the photograph. A picture, though covered in dust, of Ryse’s mother, and presumably the father of their family. He picked it up and wiped the dust off and looked at them. The father and the mother. Husband and wife. Seeing their faces and expressions.. They really did love each other before he abandoned them. He remembered his summoner when he saw that girl. The way he looked at her. The way Oras laughed at his expression. His smile grew as a tear slid down his cheek. He stroked the photo with a single finger before placing it down and closed his eyes. He leaned against the table for a moment before he slammed his hands down and pushed back. He then took a single step towards the wall and sent his fist flying.
“DAMNIT!” He roared as his fist broke through the wall, a surge of energy breaking it even further into a decent sized hole, all while shattering his fragile arm in the process. Oras panted as he stood there. He grit his teeth and froze, then shattered the tear on his face. He let his arm, shoulders and head hang there for a moment before he forced the shards on his arm to return to his body. After that he went to go find wood, hammer and nails.

Ryse opened the front door to the house with a paw and walked in, yawning a bit. She’d just woken up from her nap and finally felt like returning to her house. The sunshine had done her some good; she had a little more energy now. But she was a bit grumpy. Hopefully Oras wouldn’t be in the house. She wasn’t in the mood to deal with him…
‘Thok. Thok. Thok.’
The strange sound reached her ears, and she slightly raised an eyebrow. There was the strong scent of Atronach in the house, meaning Oras was definitely there. And the sound seemed to be coming from her mother’s room for some reason. ‘Great.’
Cautiously padding over to where the sound was coming from, her eyes narrowed as she saw that it was indeed Oras making the noise. One hand held a hammer. The other held a nail, while he held another nail in his mouth for easy reach. He seemed to be trying to repair a…. A giant. Hole. In the wall?!
“Wh-what happened?! Why is there a hole in my mother’s room?!” She exclaimed, equally alarmed and angry. Surely there hadn’t been anybody attacking this place in the time she’d been napping. Oras had set up defenses around the house; he’d told her this himself. So then it meant that the Atronach had made this giant hole. But why?!

Oras really wanted to use his powers to fix this, but he could only conjure and control ice. He had to do this the old fashioned way… Though there was that magic his old summoner and he talked about. He could try practicing that again. It would certainly speed everything up. It would take some time to research and master, but he should get the hang of it pretty quickly. As he hammered in the nails however he heard Ryse’s yelling. He sighed but didn’t stop. “You going to keep yelling bloody murder at me? Come on, hit me, break me, even kill me or just leave. Seriously. You just standing there yelling words just makes me want to kill myself. A freaking insect could make a simple decision to the question 'fight or flight.'”
Suffice it to say that Oras wasn’t happy in the slightest. He knew this was going to be coming. He even prepared for it. But truth was it was just as infuriating as he imagined it would be, if not worse. If he had to drive her away from the house to get some peace and quiet as he protected her mother, then so be it… Better than her befriending him only for something to happen.

The egg moved a little more. Going unnoticed by the both of them.
"I'm not asking a stupid question Oras, so deal with it!" Ryse snapped, then suddenly turned her head away from him as she coughed ash once again, grimacing. When she turned back to him, the anger and tiredness would be clear to see in her eyes. "I’m not in the mood to deal with your attitude right now. So if you want to be like that, then fine. I was going to ask if I could help you, but you can fix it yourself. I’m assuming you’re the one who broke my mother’s wall anyways.”
Turning away from him, she stormed out of the house. Talking to him had been a bad decision. Anger caused her blood to almost boil. She’d almost wanted to lunge at him, but she was too tired, and too injured to do so. Plus it would cause more harm than good in her mother’s room. It was broken enough already. Starting a fight would make it even more so.
Her claws dug into the ground as she sat on the hill she and the Atronach had been on earlier that day, snarling in silent fury. She just couldn’t understand why he was acting this way. It was like he’d flipped a switch, and suddenly his snarky personality was back in full force. She’d thought they were getting to know each other better, but it seemed she didn’t know Oras at all. He didn’t want to be her friend. And that hurt most of all.

There was some silence from the building before the hammering continued. A figure continued to watch the two of them from the shadows. However, it may be time for him to intervene. Things seemed to be getting pretty bad between the two of them. And neither of them deserved this. The figure glided alongside the trees, following her path until they were far enough from the house where Oras would not hear them. Then he spoke. “Working with the kid can be troublesome can’t it?” he said as he emerged from the shadow of the trees. He was taking a human form so she wouldn’t recognize him. He loved to help, but he would rather keep the fact that he was a councilman a secret from her as long as possible.
He glanced at her talons piercing the ground below her. “Now now, why punish the earth for your pain? Surely there are better ways to release your anger.”

Ryse snapped in the direction she’d heard the sudden voice, narrowing her eyes at the figure, her lip curling into a snarl. “Who are you?” A low growl rumbled in her throat. Usually she would be able to sense those with an inner fire, but her fire was gone thanks to molting, so she couldn’t tell if the person was a phoenix or not. Not that that concerned her. What did concern her was that he was here even though Oras had supposedly set up defenses around the house. What did that mean, then?
She stood up, spreading her wings in a threatening manner as her fur bristled. “Would you rather I take it out on you instead?” She wasn’t in the mood to deal with an intruder. She had to protect her land and her mother, and even though she didn’t have her fire at the moment and was recovering from the attack yesterday she could still fight. Which is what she would do if the intruder came any closer.

The individual chuckled when Ryse threatened him. “I can understand why Oras took his time to help you. You have a fire inside, even for a phoenix. As for who I am, let’s just say mutual allies with Oras from way back when, and by extension you.” He didn’t show any concern nor fear when she threatened him either, simply smiling calmly. “I’m going to go ahead and assume you aren’t his summoner correct? There were several signs for it but I’d like to make certain.” If she really wasn’t his summoner then…

Ryse paused, lowering her wings as she peered at the man. A mutual ally from many years ago? She had no way of knowing if he was telling the truth or not. "......no. I'm not his summoner." She replied hesitantly. She didn't relax from her tense position, but neither did she threaten him again either.
"Why are you here? If you're here to see Oras, he's inside. Fixing a hole in the wall." She didn't plan on just letting him walk in the house without keeping a close eye on him, though. There was no way she was letting him anywhere near her mother. Not while she was still taking her trial. The man may seem friendly, but she didn't trust him.

The man nodded in understanding to her response. “I thought so. In that case he chose to leave his summoner to help you here then? He must have really wished to help you then to have done that. Getting him to separate from his summoner is nearly impossible.” When she asked why he was there he simply chuckled. “I’m here to help you two is all.” When she stated that Oras was fixing the hole he made the figure turned to look at the house. “Yes… I heard him do it too. From the sound of it something was bothering him. He rarely shows how he feels, so I’m assuming he believed he was alone. But of course I’ve been watching the both of you, so I know of it. The poor boy never could do it…”

As the man talked, Ryse tilted her head in confusion. She knew that Oras was stubborn when it came to being separated from his summoner. He’d arranged for other atronachs to look after the woman. But did it really mean that he’d wanted to help? This man seemed to think so. “Yeah well... he’s making it seem like it was no big deal. Like it was just a chore that he’d washed his hands of.”
She looked away from the man, tail drooping as she sat down again, sighing. Then she heard that him say that Oras must’ve felt like she was alone and didn’t know how to express his feelings, and sge snorted. “And he thinks being rude and snarky is going to help him not be alone? I’ve been calling him a friend for these past few months. And he doesn’t even consider me as one!” She was letting her frustrations out to this man, but part of her didn’t care. It felt good to talk about these things. “Why did he help me then, if he doesn’t care?”

Listening to her speak put a sad but understanding smile on his face. He waited until she’d finished speaking. When she did he would address her and her words. “It is a convincing charade eh? However it’s not at all what it seems to be.” He walked over to a log and sat down on it, inviting her to sit beside him. He’d give her a moment to decide whether she would or wouldn’t. “When he first arrived in this world, his summoner was an adventurer. They never stayed in one place for very long. They would save the day all over the world. They helped us in our war as well. He was a very fearsome fighter, while also protecting his comrades. However he couldn’t get over our world’s amount of ‘stupidity and idiots’ as he called us.
“That’s where his attitude started. Or at least that’s what his summoner told me. What I saw however. Was a man who kept others at arms length, because he was afraid he would hurt them when he left. This is one of many reasons he wears the mask he does. And I can assure you. If he left his summoner to help you? There is no doubt he considers you his friend. He’s acting aggressive because due to all of his memories, he expects to vanish at some point, or say or do something that will hurt you. So he feels it would be better if you hate him already, making the pain of him staying, or even leaving, easier on you. And I suspect your reaction to what he’d done the previous day helped fuel his fears.”

The hyrbid was silent as the man explained, padding over to sit beside him. She didn't sit on the log itself, but on the ground in front of the log. So.... Oras did consider her a friend?
"You mean when he staged a plot to have us be attacked by phoenixes in order to get said phoenixes arrested?" She replied, giving him a flat look, then shaking her head. "I was mad, yeah. How could he expect me not to be mad? My mom died for Visarrion's sake. But... I also understand why he did it. He was helping us; even if it ended the way it did. But I don't hate him for it. My mom will be back, and everything will be back to normal. If I hated him I would've told him to leave, and taken care of my mom myself."
She wouldn't have allowed him to be in her house in the first place. Or anywhere near her mom. "And I'm mad at him right now because he's acting like such a giant jerk. If I hated him I would've told him so." Lying wasn't one of her strong suits. She'd rather tell someone what she thought of them than lie to their face.

“Well think of it this way. You would reject your grim heritage and even snapped at those who called you out on it. Yes I heard of such events, no need to know how I know. This behavior wasn’t healthy for you nor for others, yet you did it anyway. Why? Because of the pain others caused you because you were different.” He placed a hand on her shoulder and offered her a comforting smile. “Everyone becomes who they are because of the experiences they have growing up. Oras is afraid he will hurt others because of his attitude. He has grown up and it will take a great deal of time for his personality to change. However you must remind yourself that he does not truly mean it. It’s his own form of self defense, and his own way of keeping others from getting close to him. So that they, and by extension himself, do not become emotionally hurt by him.”
He leaned back again, taking his hand off of her shoulder. He was quiet for a little bit to give her some time to think. “There are other reasons he acts the way he does, many of which I personally do not know. However I know someone hiding the pain when I see them. Your friend carries much weight on his heart, and does not wish to share the load.” The man stood up and began to walk away, patting her shoulder as he passed by. “Take some time to think about this. I advise against talking with him until you do. Farewell Ryse.”

Ryse watched as the man began walking away. He had made several good points. She herself used to snap at people who made fun of her. Oras snapped at others because he was afraid he would hurt others. They both protected themselves in similar ways. And that it would take time for his personality to change. How much time, Ryse didn't exactly know. Oras had lived this way for at least a hundred years if not more... how long would it take for him to reverse this attitude of his? To melt that sheet of ice around his heart?
Knowing what she did now, she needed some much needed time to think about what was told to her before she returned to the house. ".... wait. Will you tell me your name?" She wanted to know who this mysterious man was, other than just a mutual ally of Oras. He obviously had ways of getting information that wasn't known to most people. Just who was he? Would he show up again?

The figure paused and turned to look towards her. He smiled and shook his head. “My apologies, but if I wish to have further conversations with you, without you having a biased opinion or response towards me, my identity must remain a secret. Feel free to call me however way you see fit, and just consider me an occasional friend you can share your concerns, stress or worries to.” Yes. He did care for the girl. However Oras Aventra Auro was a very unusual, and potentially dangerous individual. He’d like to stay in contact with her in the future but only after he gained her trust. She’d be a good asset to keep tabs on the Atranoch in case things turned for the worse. Also… He needed to find out who his summoner was.
