welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

He watched as she choked after he pierced her torso. He heard her say his name, rasping as she said it. Asking him why. Once again confusion would show in his eyes as she looked into hers… Why did her eyes look so familiar to him? How did she know his name? That’s impossible. They couldn’t have known each other. Zekigne pulled his hand out, blood dripping from the talons as he turned his attention over to Ozaki. He watched as the individual… Combusted into blue flames and vanished? His eyes widened before narrowing again as he looked at Antonio, his wings flaring. “Where did you send him?! Don’t stand between me and my prey!” Before anything could happen, he felt his hand, vanish.. He snapped his attention to his left hand and his eyes widened as he saw a brilliant golden like flame on himself as well. A blue flame consumed his right hand, the one covered in blood. When he looked to Ryse’s corpse and saw she was a… Phoenix?! That’s when he remembered. He remembered someone, no. Two people who knew his name. Ryse and Anarra.. but who- His eyes widened just as his body was finally consumed by the flames.

Ryse stirred and blinked open her eyes. She was in her true form, curled on the floor and covered with a blanket. She was in her small wooden cottage home in Hisakawa. The fireplace was lit, sunlight was streaming in through the windows. It was about noon. Had she overslept? That was strange. She always awoke at dawn. The only times she overslept was when she was molting, but she wasn't at this time. She would know if she was. She would be exhausted, cold, and coughing ash, but she felt just fine and wasn't about to start coughing anytime soon.
Getting to her paws, she stood up, taking the blanket off, and padded around the house. Her mom had to be around here somewhere.... "Mom?" She called. Usually she would be able to scent her, but not this time. Had the older phoenix left to go hunting?
As a matter of fact, how did she get home in the first place?
She knew she hadn't flown here. Or taken an airship. Her mother hadn't come to get her from school, as far as she remembered. The thought nagged at her as she continued searching the house. The cottage was handmade, built by her parents before she was born. It was small, only consisting of three bedrooms, a livingroom, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a dining room. Candles lit the dark places where the sunlight couldn't reach. There wasn't electricity in the home, being so remote from everyone, so they had to make due with other light sources; which wasn't a problem considering their species' affinity for fire. Looking through all the rooms - excluding her father's former room, she nor her mother never went in there and thus the door always remained shut - revealed no sign of her mother, so she turned her attention to outside. Opening the front door with her paw, she padded outside.
The forest was the same as it always was. Hot, humid, and bright. Vibrant flowers grew here and there; most of them only native to her homeland. The trees towered above her home, as ancient as the great Wakeru river that split the nation in half. But the hybrid's focus wasn't on the flora around her. She was focused on finding her mother. Spreading her wings, she took to the air, flying high enough to be able to see above the trees and the seemingly endless stretch of forest that spanned the horizon. The snowy peaks of the icy mountain range visible in the distance. But alas, there was no sign of her.
Where could she be?

Ozaki found himself in a forest. The Canopy ahead offered varying degrees of shade, though where he was right now was in absolute shade. He hadn’t actually gotten to shutting his umbrella, but still. That was nice. Having not just died himself, Ozaki had perfect recall of why he was here. He, like Antonio, had felt the tingle of divine energy. Yet despite being distinctly holy, there had been some measure of comfort to it. Not like the comfort he felt when under the full moon’s light though. His own variant had its own moon god of sorts. And she had a completely different feel to this. But it was… Kind of similar. But more crawly.
Whatever had teleported him here had at least had the decency to make sure he wasn’t in direct sunlight. So it was potentially not trying to kill him off the bat. Ozaki stood up, adjusting his umbrella so that it would block the sunlight’s directionality. Alright… So now to find out where he was any why he was here. Could this have something to do with Ryse’s death?

Zekigne didn’t even register where he was yet. He had just realized that he killed the one person who started reaching out to him. The one singular person who was kind to him, and genuinely seemed to care in the slightest. There were others. Anarra, but she was too strange and, a bit frightening to be around. Nyx had spoken to him but it was clear she wasn’t one to consider others feelings. No… Ryse was the only one who actively tried to help him without pushing him too far. And he. He looked at his right hand and his eyes widened. He was staring at her blood… Her blood on his hands! He saw his fingers shaped like talons and he cried out in horror, watching as his hands started returning to normal. He killed the only person who showed kindness to him outside his own family for what?! Cause he was mad?! He felt his wings returning into his back, and the dark aura left him. As did the hellfire.
Zekigne looked around franticly, noticing that he was somewhere stoney. He saw a cliff, and. He stepped back and almost lost his balance, but gained it back. He looked down again and saw he was standing at the edge of a cliff too. He saw that he was on a mountain in what seemed like a volcanic land with forests. Where was he? How did he get here? His thoughts went back to Ryse again and the blood on his hands. He clenched his jaw as tears began sliding down his cheeks. ‘I have to make it up to her, I have to bring her back! Even if it costs me my-‘ “SHUT UP!! SHUT UP I CAN’T BRING HER BACK!!!” He collapsed to his knees and struck the mountain hard, causing a bruise to form. “I CAN’T SAVE HER!! I CAN’T!! I KILLED HER AND I CAN’T TAKE THAT BACK!!!” His hand tightened, collecting the ash and stone shards on the ground in the process. “I did this… I can’t control myself… I’m just a killer…”

The more time that passed, the more her anxiety increased. At first she was just trying to see if her mother was in the immediate area by sight and smell. But as there was no sight of her, Ryse began to fly in a wider sweeps. Usually when her mother was hunting there would at least be a faint trail telling her that the phoenix had been around at some point. However there was nothing. There was no scent of her anywhere.
"Mom, where are you?" She called. Her eyes scanned the sky and the trees, but still there was nothing. It was like her mother had vanished.
She paused in her searching as she suddenly scented a familiar smell in the air. Was that.... Ozaki?
Blinking in confusion, she looked around as she thought. Should she keep looking for her mother, or follow the scent of her friend? There was still no sign that her mother had ever been in the area, much to her worry, but then again the other phoenix was an adult. She wouldn't leave her; not like her father had. So instead of waiting for her mother to return, she decided to follow the scent of the vampire.
Turning away from the direction of her home, the teenager flew deeper and deeper into the woods, diligently following the scent. When the scent had grown strong enough she landed and searched around. "Mr. Ozaki? Are you here?" She asked curiously as she lifted her nose to the air, sniffing around. Why was the vampire in the middle of the forest? In Hisakawa of all places? Was he here on school business?

Suddenly the answer came to him, his thoughts a moment ago washed away like the scribbles on a sandy beach come high tide. Where was he? He remembered now. In fact. How could he possibly forget the reason he came here? Ozaki had come to this far away place to finally rid the world, once and for all, of Yuuto Asahi. A place far from society, where no matter how many times his body lit up with phoenix down’s rebirthing light, there would be no one to save him.
On his right were golden chains that had an unearthly green tint to them, coiled like a snake in waiting. On his left was the unconscious body of the man who had sought to kill him for the past fifteen years. Ozaki rose, shouldering the loop of chains on one shoulder while dragging the man behind him. Today was the day.
The sound of Ryse’s voice calling out to him, however, broke him momentarily out of his murderous trance. How had she gotten here? This wasn’t in his plan. Shit. He froze for a moment, not sure what to do. How would she react in seeing this? She had known his plans... But her being there for them... He couldn't turn back now though.

Lying on the ground crying, he couldn’t do much. Worst of all he could feel his nature’s spiking. Or rather, he noticed his thoughts spiking in both directions. 'I have to try. There has to be a way to save her, a way to bring her back! But... But even if there was I. She... She made the mistake of attacking me! Even still, I shouldn't have killed her! If I can't save her, I have to make it up to her family.. But if I do that they'll most likely kill me! I can't die not now! ...Why not? I can't control myself, so it might be for the better...' His head fell to the ground, his forehead getting cut by the harsh ground below him but he paid it no mind. He couldn't take this... What had he done?...
Meanwhile back at the Academy.
A woman in a white robe with long golden hair, blue eyes and fair skin strode through the hallways, hurrying as fast as she could. The faculty wasn't aware she had arrived and had no idea who she was. However she wasn't truly concerned about that right now. For one of the fewest moments of her life, the only thing she cared about... Was her son. As she neared the incident area, someone else started walking beside her. A man with orange eyes, red hair and a business suit. She turned to her husband. "How did you manage to get out?" "Easy really, someone wants to make a deal with the devil. Standard exit way. You?" "A child who lost their way. I never lie after all." "Hmph. You would say he'd lost his way." "You know very well that there is far more to that statement." "I know. I just like to push your buttons is all." "You're sweet~"

The vampire was definitely here. That much her nose told her as she continued following the scent. She padded through the forest, treading lightly as she knew she wasn't the only living thing in these woods. She may be large, but there were always larger things that could eat her in one bite. The teenager didn't know what all lived this deep in the woods, and she'd lived there for seventeen years. She doubted even her mother knew; and she'd lived for much much longer.
Upon spotting the familiar shorter teenager, her face lit up and she padded towards him, tail wagging happily. "Mr. Ozaki! I knew it was you! What are you... doing... all the way out.... here?"
Her smile slowly faded as she saw the unconscious man he was dragging behind him, and her tail stopped wagging, confusion replacing the joy in her eyes. Who was this man? Why was Ozaki dragging him through the forest? Why did he have a chain looped around his other shoulder? Why did the chain look like the material they'd tested earlier?
And why did the look on his face resemble the one he wore in the lab? That same cold expression that sent chills down her spine?

She looked so happy to see him… She likely would not be happy once she realized why he was here though. The fading smile in her voice filled him with despair. But he knew he could not turn back now. “You… You weren’t supposed to be here for this.” He said in a soft voice.
Ozaki had come here because he thought it a secluded place. But Ryse had just walked right up and found him. But he literally could not keep doing this for longer. There was one thing his plans had forgotten to account for, he was realizing now, and that was the fact that even wearing thick gloves and clothing… Most of Yuuto’s skin under his garb was etched with religious and ritualistic tattoos.
It literally pained him to drag Yuuto like this. But in his original plan he wasn’t going to be touching Yuuto for that long anyways. Why did he pick a place with so few roads? This was weird. So for now he dropped Yuuto and took a step away from him, trying to soften his gaze to something less resembling his soon to be late father’s murderous gaze. “Why are you here?”

Ryse looked from the vampire to the man currently lying on the ground and back again. “W-well I live here.” She replied hesitantly. “I mean…. not here specifically. My home is over in that direction.” She gestured to the northeast with a wing. “I was actually looking for my mom, and I smelled you. So I kinda…. tracked you down that way….”
This situation was making her uneasy. What did his statement mean? “What are you doing here, Mr. Ozaki? I’m not supposed to be here? Why?” She was afraid of what the answer was going to be.

He just wanted her gone now. Ozaki didn’t want anyone seeing him like this. His stomach was a boiling pit of rage, as he had to keep reminding himself of all the reasons he had to do this. This wasn’t just about Meggi, this wasn’t just about the other vampires. For once he was actually doing this for himself. For all the pain Yuuto had caused him, and for all the repressed rage that had built up over the years that he had denied himself the right to feel and act on because he hadn’t thought he had the right to feel that way after all he had done.
But in the end… It had been Yuuto’s fault. But Ryse was here. He had to get her gone and out of the way. And as much as he might not like it right now, the only way to do that was through the truth. “This… This is the vampire hunter I told you about… My father.” Maybe he should grab a mild sedation dart right now for himself. But if he had to run at some point because things went south he would be slowed down by that.
Besides he really shouldn’t be as reliant on them as he had become over the past month… He really shouldn’t. But it was so hard to contain this anger on his own. He wanted blood in the worst possible way. But the one he wanted it from most was etched in holy tattoos himself, and also liable to light up in phoenix fire the moment he died. Two reasons he had to hold back himself even if he was alone with Yuuto.
He glanced at his phone. His timer said he had five minutes on the sedative before Yuuto started to rouse.

"oh....." The word was uttered quietly as the teenager processed what was said.
Looking back at the unconscious man again, the pieces began clicking in her brain, and it suddenly made sense. He had said earlier he was making a weapon out of the materials. A weapon meant to kill his father. And he was holding a chain made out of that very same material. That was what Ozaki meant. This man was his father... and he was going to kill him.
"W-why do you want to kill him?" She'd thought he was going to kill him because he was a serial killer that had murdered dozens of people. That his father had done unspeakable crimes and had to be killed in order to protect others. That he was just doing a job. But Ozaki was dragging him through the forest like he was a freshly caught piece of prey that he was going to roast over an open flame.
It seemed unlikely that his father had been hiding out in the forest. She or her mother would've come across him by now, and his face didn't look familiar. Which meant that the vampire had brought him here. Away from everyone. To kill him without anyone even knowing about it.

Ozaki would rather her, or anyone know. But she already knew from before that this was his father. There was no lie or half truth that would make her go away. As a phoenix she had a distinct advantage in making him yield if she really so wished. This place was her home? Was a horrible coincidence. He hated thinking like that. But it was in this case.
“I told you. He’s a vampire hunter. I’m a vampire. Do I really need to explain any more?” He really hoped that she would leave it at that. It was simple, wasn’t it? Could she not fill in the blanks? Calling Yuuto a hunter, though, almost seemed like a disservice to the concept of hunter to Ozaki though. That implied he was any good at tracking and finding his prey. When in reality he was a far better soldier than he was an actual hunter. Yuuto could follow orders and execute them and any prey in his path with lethal effectiveness. But as far as hunting quarry on his own, he either had to be extremely lucky or his quarry entirely inexperienced. Oras hadn't been entirely off the mark to call Yuuto incompetent.

“ ‘He’s a vampire hunter?’ ” Ryse echoed, ears lying flat against her head. Fear and anger flared in her eyes. “That’s it? That’s the only reason why you would drag him all the way out here like this to kill him?”
That couldn’t be all there was to it. That just couldn’t be. The look she’d seen on his face was one that told her it was more than just this simple answer he was giving her.
“I helped you because I thought you actually had a good reason to kill him, Ozaki. Not just some personal vendetta.” She took a step towards him, fur bristling. “And now you’re telling me that you’re going to kill him in the forest where I live. In my home. Just because he’s a vampire hunter?”
She shook her head, taking another step towards him. “No. I don’t believe it. So you’d better give me reasons other than the bullshit that just came out of your mouth. And you’d better give them to me Now!”
She stomped a paw on the ground, a bit of sparks flaring where she made contact with the ground, fire flaring in her eyes. This was her home, damn it. She wasn’t about to let a murder happen just because the vampire felt like spilling blood. Why did he want to kill him so badly?

Ozaki guessed it wasn’t. He reached into one of his inner trench coat pockets and pulled out a ski mask and put it over his head, then putting on a pair of heavily tinted sunglasses. He really did look like a criminal right now. But the function was to avoid getting burnt by the mere light of the phoenix flame. Right now there wasn’t so much as an inch of skin exposed.
“He’s killed hundreds of vampires just for being what they are.” But there was something bristling against him in what Ryse was saying. As if him wanting to kill his father for himself was wrong. Why? What was wrong for wanting revenge for himself? Did he not deserve it? “But really though… What’s so wrong against wanting to kill someone who’s been hunting you since the day you were turned?”
She wouldn’t think that was enough. She wouldn’t understand. “What’s so wrong about wanting to kill someone who once left you skewered in an alleyway and just left, not realizing he MISSED?” Ozaki tapped the right side of his chest, where he still bore a scar from that encounter. He could only guess that Yuuto had missed due to being emotional at the time. He hadn’t stuck around to see if his son turned to ash… Perhaps at the time even he hadn’t wanted to see that.
“Is it really so wrong to kill someone who- He blamed me for everything I did when- Back then. But it was his fault that- That man. That vampire came that night. His fault I was turned. His fault I- I killed- Her. That was me. But it wouldn’t have happened if- if he could just…”
His fists were clenched tightly.
