welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

"Well the way I see it, so long as it doesn't require a specific type of energy, or an exact opposing energy isn't used, then yeah, it is simple. There are limitations from what I have personally seen. A simple candle flame takes less than a large and more intense flame meant for an attack. To pull something towards you takes less constantly keeping it in the air. I guess, and let me know if I am wrong, as I am still learning, it all depends on what you are doing, to what extent you are doing said activity, and what energy you are using to do it. Of course, there are certain basic spells I could never pull off, due to the fact that I only manipulate energy, and not control it."
He shrugs before listening to what he said about the book, and of the request. Only here for a few weeks and already he was being asked such. He wasn't really surprised about it, after all he was the only one of his own species that had come here, and so what he was and what he could do was completely unknown to those who already lived here. And even if he was surprised, he knew that having that kind of information might help with later goals of his own as well as helping tie certain things together later down the road. Information on what a member of the Fives could do was something that was needed, not just for himself but for others who may follow in his footsteps as well.
"In any other situation, I would say no. While I may be an outcast of my people, I still have others alongside myself I would need to protect. However... I believe that getting such information might be helpful in protecting them. It might even help me later down the road when I try to figure out how to use other abilities that may still be sleeping within me. With that said, I ask that you keep it to just us for now. At least until we get a more complete file on it. If you agree to that, then we have a deal."
He hoped that this stranger before him would agree, as not only would this help him in the future, but this would be his first real ally in this place. He had been helped by other since he got here, but up to this point they were only temporary. He knew names, but not if they could be trusted nor if he would ever meet them again. With this, he knew that he would come across the man before many times. Whether he would prove trustworthy or not was to be decided, but he would save that for later.
"My view on someone who doesn't see it as a necessity? Do you mean one who doesn't kill because they don't need to? Or someone who kills just because they want to?"

The Nightmare would hum a bit at the explanation as he tapped a finger against his lip in thought. “So you are saying these simple tasks can come out of various types of energies? For example, fire can be created by the mind, a heat element, or even a plant's energy. They’re all different and have different ways of creating the same thing, but they aren’t specific, correct? So then what would be specific? Or is saying something like clairvoyance for example runs off a more specific energy than the natural elements?” The Nightmare would poke more since the topic was still around so why not gather more information on this one’s perspective? Anyway… “As for usage, it does depend on what you are trying to do as far as how much energy you need to use goes and the price it asks for in the end if that is what you are questioning. As for basic spells you cannot do, which would they be?” The creature was taking great interest in this study as the time ticked on. The sky above shifting with darkness, light, and color as it followed the flow.
Speaking of studies, the Nightmare would give a Cheshire like grin of pleasure to the answer he received. “So you do it for yourself and others. Mm. Mm,” the creature would nod in approval. “We can behind that and growth. As for your request, but of course. We will not release our data on you until it is complete or you give us permission to do otherwise. It will be confidential for now, my friend.” Well despite how strange or creepy this whole matter could come off to one not use to the sometimes unsettling shifts in the Nightmare's behavior, at least the other had a deal and the Nightmare as ally for the time being. After all, he could see the use in being close to this one and perhaps even friends if the relationship grew beyond just personal or business matters. That would be a story for another time though.
With that deal made the Nightmare would consider the question posed by the other before answering.
“Yes. One who kills for the pleasure of it or simply because they can. Those are the views I want from you.” Though why he wanted such answers he would keep to himself for now.

Talon nods in appreciation to the Nightmare's words, thankful he was willing to accept those terms. The majority of the Enerzian race was very secretive about what they could do, and if word had gotten to them that someone was studying a Five while they were training then it would certainly result in certain personnel being sent to take care of the problem.
"I appreciate it. I don't want certain people getting wind that we are doing this until we have the chance to complete and copy it."
So, he wanted to know how he felt about those who killed for the sake of blood lust. He had a clear view on them, though he still knew it wasn't completely black and white. There had been a few Fives who killed for such reasons, though it was more along the lines of their abilities taking over or even living in the wilderness had broken their minds. He only knew of one that killed for the reason of just wanting to kill, and he had never gotten along with that person. On many occasions the two had fought, with Talon often coming out injured in one way or another. The only thing that had kept him alive was his ability to think logically during the fight.
"For those who kill just for the thrill, I am not exactly a fan of. They tend to be more dangerous, less predictable and without the thought of repercussions. from my own experience, I have met only one, and he fought against even those who he had been cast out alongside with. But... while they are the most dangerous and... unsightly... of killers, I never fully dislike them until I find out why they are like that. If they kill just because, without a reason as to why they do so, then I see them as little more than a wild animal in most cases. If they have a reason, something that set them on the path they travel, then I will give them their fair chance."

It would seem the topic of energy would either be ignore or simply dropped by the other. He didn’t get any answers to questions posed nor did he get any indicator the other wanted to continue that topic. A bit disappointing. He would’ve loved at least a bit more clarity on the data, but life didn’t always go his way. Oh well, he would deal with it easily enough as he focused on the what the other did respond to.
To the action and what was said, the Nightmare would raise an eyebrow at the other in curiosity. “Is what we are doing a threat in some way to our health?” he would ask interested about any consequences of someone catching wind of what they did. Not that he was going to let it slip of course. Oh no. He was much to selfish for that and he was also in agreement that incomplete data was never fun to give... unless someone was willing to wait for said incomplete work to be completed in some fashion of course. Even so, if there was some high risk involved in what they were doing, he wanted to know about. Why? Well that was simple: He wanted to know if said threat was something that he would need to eliminate or ignore to gain and keep his precious data.
On other topics, the Nightmare would find himself giving the other a Cheshire like smile as he nodded approvingly at the other. “Oho. I like you and your way a lot. Perhaps even if I am killer we can still get along well enough. Though, I do not agree on one aspect of your words. Animals are not thoughtless killers. They kill to survive and protect themselves. However, an intelligent being who has lost all sense of purpose or reason for killing and just kills because they can?” he would pause giving a low deep chuckle that boarder on animalistic growl. “Oh... those sorts are even worse than wild beasts,” he would whisper with a glint of something crossed between amusement and knowing in his eyes.

"Well, not to our health. Hopefully. All I know is that those in power from my homeland wouldn't be happy to know that we were doing this. Not sure what all they might do to try to keep that kind of information locked away. Especially since the source is someone like me. That one might just set them over the edge."
He sighs a little before bending over to pick up his jacket and putting it on. While this man in front of him had already seen his scars, Talon himself still had certain problems leaving them out in the open for too long. He never knew who all was watching or might even just pop up out of nowhere. He didn't want too many to start asking questions he wasn't fully prepared to answer just yet.
"I guess I see what you mean there. They can still think for more than just survival and all that. Use weapons, traps and all sorts of other tools to help them in their... trade. I just never thought of it like that is all. I should have. That one I told you about? I fought him a few times. Nearly lost my life each time. Luck is the only thing that let me walk away with some extra scars. So yeah, I was wrong on that part."
As he finished saying this, a few choice words spoken by this man in front of him caught his attention. What he had said in the beginning of his previous bit of words. 'Perhaps even if I am a killer'. While this didn't quite surprise him, this still threw Talon off a little bit. He didn't expect this Nightmare to just straight up announce such a thing to someone he had only just met minutes before.
"A killer, huh? I am guessing you are one that has a reason for his actions? Otherwise I doubt you would have said anything, not unless you just don't care. Or maybe that much confidence in our new agreement. Whatever it is, I believe your words are true. If you were the mindless kind then I highly doubt we would be speaking... now would we?"

The Nightmare would consider the other's words for a moment as he tilted his head. “Why do they want it all locked away? And what makes you especially threatening in their eyes?” he would ask as he shifted his weight to his left leg. His eyes would watch the other take actions to retrieve his jacket as he waited to see what else could be learned from the boy. Whatever the answer was or was not, the conversations would eventually come back to killers.
The Nightmare would nod with a light hum. “We all learn from each other in the end. Being wrong is just part of learning,” he would say with a smirk and wink that would soon fade as he heard the part about the boy and the fights he had. “The one you fought, do you know why he was like that? And were you the only one he attacked? Also you say it was luck that saved you, yet….you fought and won no? So how is it luck?” He understood the world and the different shades of beliefs in it; however, to fight and survive something meant you had skills, but to live after having death next to you? It wasn’t luck in his eyes. No it was just the mercy of a greater spirit that people just named luck is all. Nothing happened by chance, but that was a ramble and thought for another time. For now, he just left himself open to learning.
Speaking of learning, it seemed the other with him was quite the curious one and easy enough to take off guard with his behavior. He was not typical that was for sure, but he didn’t seem to mind the other’s behavior as he gave a slow blink before answering.
“In the end, having a reason and not having a reason does not matter. It about perspective, see? I am killer, but what type of killer you’ll just have to find out. However, I speak from experience and see no reason to sugar coat or hide exactly what I am. So I speak freely on the matter. Deal or no deal. New face or not.” After all, he had seen much in his lifetime to know without a doubt there was no reason to play games with such matters. As for that last comment, the Nightmare would chuckle. “No. You would be dead,” he would say with a smirk before pausing as the bell from the clock at the school rang. The sound seemed to snap something within the Nightmare as his behavior changed a bit as he blinked a few times with a small frown. “Hmm…What do you plan to do from here?” he would ask in tones that were softening as he looked over at the boy his eyes slowly going back to gold and the uncomfortable presence slowly fading from the area.

He closed his eyes as he though about the answer to the question he was just asked. The Enerzian's had many reasons to keep what they were from outsiders, most reasons being out of superstition. Some reason had to do with some sort of order among their people. Whatever the reason of the individual was, Talon knew the main reason for the secrecy. It was a simple one, and despite how the Fives were treated, it was rather innocent as well. The reason for them hating Talon giving away this information was far different, however.
"They keep to themselves mainly because they don't like change, and feel letting too many outsiders know about what they can do will bring more change. That and they just don't like outsiders. Don't really know why though, they just never did. As for myself..."
He held up his right hand and coursed energy from his Flame Crystal though his body and into his hand, lighting his palm ablaze. The flame would sit for a few seconds before dispersing as electric energy flowed up his arm and sparked across his fingers.
"They see Fives having the ability to control their abilities as no less than blasphemy. They put a spell on us to wipe out memory of who we are and kick us out into the wilderness to keep us from learning our power. The fact that I am here letting someone learn and record what I am able to do as I figure it out would definitely piss them off."
He let the sparks go out before putting his hand back down. This next question brought back certain memories of fighting that Five who had lost himself to insanity. With an animosity that would make wild predators shrink away from him, yet an intelligence that was based around survival in the wilderness against the strongest of creatures, the man had always been a problem, and was still one when he had left.
"Simply put, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for other Fives being close whenever he attacked. He had good fighting instincts, and a good memory. After a few fights with someone he had their style down to the letter. We couldn't do the same with him though. He was too random, too... unpredictable. And he always fought with the ferocity of a rabid animal. Whenever I found myself against him I found myself taken out within just a few minutes, even if other Fives were helping me before he took me down."
He listened to the rest of his words and thought about them, deciding that while he was unsure exactly how much he could trust his new partner, he would at least trust him enough to not mindlessly attack someone. He seemed pretty civil from the conversation they were having, so he felt there wasn't any real threat to worry about. Hearing the voice of the man once again and feeling that uncomfortable aura dispersing, he looked up and realized he was talking to the one who he guessed was more or less the host.
"Well... I guess all there is to do is try to control my abilities on my own still, see what I can discover. Until you find that book there isn't much else I can do."

The Nightmare would stay quiet as he looked up at the sky that was changing with time, his attention wouldn’t be drawn back to the boy until he started speaking again. To what was said, the Nightmare would close his eyes as he let it all sink in. He would hear the reasoning behind race’s secrecy and hear what the boy had to say about what they were doing now. As he reopened his eyes to observe the power the boy was displaying, he would give a flat response back.
“I find that rather foolish. Being afraid of the outside and change to the point you do everything in your power to keep those things away. That won’t work forever and in the end, that sort of thinking may be their downfall if the universe wants it that way…” He knew this truth well enough. After all, he had witness a whole entire city disappear because of this boxed in thinking….That city…if only…No. He would push that thought away as he reached up to push a few strands of hair back behind his ear. “Let them be pissed. They had no right to strip you of name or ability to know. That is just as bad as throwing a babe to the wolves and expecting the baby to fight. No offense to you, but these people are rather disgusting in my eyes.” If there was one thing this darker side shared with the Nightmare that housed it, they did not agree on such an act simply because something was different. They much rather embrace the oddity and learn from it. Not toss it away because it didn’t fit the mold.
The Nightmare would hold an iciness to him for a few seconds as his mind mulled over if he would allow that to happen to him….or if it did and he found out the truth would he just let them get away with it. Probably not. After all, this darkness was much too proud to simply let things remain as is. No, he would want change and justice. That aside, the iciness would melt as the subject shifted to the wild man the other had fought.
“Ah, now I see. One of the most dangerous of beasts. Madness with intelligence. That is hard to erase, but at least there were others to help you, so you had that in your favor. I wonder how would it have turned if they had not been there.” Would the man have torn him apart while he was down or what? He had to wonder, but wouldn’t know if he never saw this beast man in action. He certainly had more questions, but it would appear as the clock at the school rang, his time would end for now as his much sweeter softer side pushed its way forward and took over.
Though as he came back around, the Nightmare would find himself even more drained than before as he blinked sleepily at the other and furrow his eyebrows. “I see….Well…for now I am going to leave you to it. I’ll check back in for more data later. As for your book, I’ll find it…after some sleep that is,” he would give the other a small smile before giving a slight bow. “Don’t beat yourself too much, mmkay?” he would say before shifting in his spot and beginning to head towards the school if not stopped by the other.
