welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

The last few days had felt like weeks of hell for the Nightmare that had been suffering from lack of sleep thanks to the beast within being unusually active. He wasn’t sure what got the beast so riled up, but he wished it would just go back to sleep. Its constant pushing on his mind was driving him closer and closer to the edge making him feel like he was going to lose it and he didn’t want to do that. He didn’t want to lose it. No…To lose it would mean to release the thing within. No. No. He mustn’t, but he couldn’t continue this sleepless night pattern either.
It was beginning to make staying up in classes hard and focusing on assignments a challenge. On top of that, it was stressing him out in all sorts of ways that left him feeling drained and zombie like most of the time. Even if he ate properly, it had no effect on pulling him up again. In a nutshell, the last few days sucked…and it looked like today was going to be another rough one.
The Nightmare had stayed up during the night unable to sleep as he turned from one side of his bed to the other, trying to get rest but failing as his mind raced a million miles per second and his body remained tense and wired. An hour or two before the sun was due to rise, the Nightmare gave up on sleep and rolled out of his bed deciding to head outside. His usual go these days.
Today was a day off from classes, so instead of a walk before class, he opt to go towards the training grounds and after a good searching of the area he found a calm area of grass with a large tree nearby. Walking over to the tree, he’d sit down and lean back against it as he looked up at the shadows of the leaves against the dark starless skies. Heh even the skies were reflecting his mood right now. Ah well…at least for now he could just sit and have at least something to look at that was better than ceiling or walls of his room. Settling in his spot, he would pray that mother nature would blow away his current condition and that the creator above gave him strength to push through yet another day.

It had already been a few weeks since Talon had been accepted into Eldritch Academy. The first week was more or less getting use to the grounds and how things were run within their boundaries. While he knew he would have to get use to a new way of life, he wasn't quite expecting the change to be so... extreme. Classes he could understand, and he figured they would have him do a little more training so as to better control his abilities. But then he also had to report to someone at certain times, and even had those in charge of the dorm he had decided to join. He was so use to being able to decide when to do what, this new life was one that required him to do what he was told to by certain faculty members. At least he still has his free time. And actual clothes.
He had been given some money to buy proper garments, seeing how the clothes he had arrived in were barely holding together. Where he once donned a torn, hooded sweater and pants that were held up by a simple string, Talon's style had definitely improved. A dark blue leather jerkin with detachable sleeves now took the place of his torn shirt, and a thin yet sturdy jacket with pockets on the upper arms and lower chest was worn over the shirt. The jacket also had a personally requested bandoleer-style trip that went from the right shoulder down towards the left ribs. With a total of about fifteen different slots, only three were currently filled. Small arcane crystals filled these three slots, each housing a different form of energy; electric, kinetic and one that was empty. His ragged and loose-fitting pants were replaced with black combat pants that were a tighter fit but still left enough room so as not to hinder his movement. Black gloves with fittings which could hold the arcane crystals covered his hands, with his index and middle finger left bare.
This new look was one which Talon felt fit him; simple yet ready for action at a moment's notice. Red seemed to enjoy it as well. The leather jerkin gave the bird an easier-to-grip surface for when he stood on his master's shoulder. The two of them were currently walking through the halls of the academy, headed towards the training grounds. With nothing else to do at the moment, Talon decided it was a good day to train a little more. While the few classes he had been through so far had allowed him to gain a better control of Kinetic energy, he still had yet to better manipulate the Electric energy he had brought with him. He knew he wanted to master more than just these two, but also knew that trying for more at his current level would just be pushing it.
He would push open doors to the training yard and step out into the fresh air, realizing that it was a later hour than he had initially thought. The dark skies cast eerie shadows on the ground, city lights disrupting the natural starlight and keeping them hidden from view even if the weather was nice enough to show their sparkle. The city was quiet save for the occasional burst of noise from late-nighters. Most students were in bed at this hour, which was why Talon had chosen it for his training. His abilities still had the occasional backfire, and he didn't want anyone getting hurt.
He failed to notice the other person who had decided to take a late night trip to the training yard, and walked over to a few training dummies which he had been using for his spells. One was a dummy which spun, interactions with it causing it to spin faster and more violently. This is the one which Talon had used to help gain more control over his Kinetic manipulation. Tonight though, he would be focusing on a dummy which was made to withstand the more electrifying energy which he had been trying to master a little more. This dummy was grounded, making any electric spells travel safely into the ground.
Red would fly off of Talon's shoulder, rising up into the air to look for any stray rodent which one could usually find on the grounds. Talon would remove the Electric crystal from its bandoleer and set it into the fitting on his left glove before taking his jacket off and folding it up and placing it off to the side. Now that the crystal was set and he was more comfortable, he would turn to the dummy. His jerkin was equipped with a hood, which Talon kept up almost all times. Because of this, anyone watching would be unable to see him close his eyes in order to focus. Tonight, however, he thought he was alone, and would have the hood down.
Concentrating on the energy within the Electric Crystal, he would place his two uncovered fingers of his right hand upon the crystal, pulling them away after a second. His fingers were followed by a bright, sparking energy which caused the air around it to be filled with static electricity. Energy now in hand, he would open his eyes, showing they were now glowing a bright, electric yellow. His hand would trail through the air to hover behind him, the energy flowing behind and following its direct path. Once the energy had fully caught up, he would thrust his hand forward, attempting to force the energy forward into the dummy in the form of a bolt of lightning. His lack of mastery over this energy prevented this, however, and while most of the energy would find its mark and surge through the dummy, a moderate amount would lash back up his arm. This would cause him to jerk his arm back and hold it as the pain of the electricity flowing in reverse through his arm slowly began to ebb away.
*Damnit. Electric energy is a lot different than Kinetic. If mastering this one energy is so difficult, I can only imagine how much harder others will be. The flow of electric energy is unique in that it has conductors and insulators which effect it more than most energies would. That and its flow is a bit more unpredictable. What can I do to better my control over it?*

He would continue to look up at the tree watching how the leaves played in the light wind. He was in a slight trance and might’ve actually drifted off to sleep if the sound of electricity didn’t catch his ear. Blinking, he would sit up and look around for only a second before finding the source. Some feet away, he saw that another had come out into the training ground and was using some form of electrical power on a dummy. Staring as his brain processed the fact there was someone there training, the Nightmare would watch as the other made his attack and immediately seem to be in pain from it?
Furrowing his eyebrows in slight confusion, the Nightmare found his tired body automatically getting to its feet and after a stretch or two, he would begin to walk over to the other slowing to a stop once he was within speaking range. Looking at the other from the back, he saw it was a young male with black - Hmm. Well maybe it was a shade of purple or something. Anyway - hair. He was wearing some nice clothing, but the Nightmare could care less about that as his eyes landed on the arm the other was holding. He seemed to have strange markings on his arms, but he couldn’t see them well in the darkness, but he had not come over here to study details just yet.
“Are you okay?” he would ask finally breaking the silence between them. If the other did turn, he would find the dark skinned Nightmare looking at him with tired yet concerned golden eyes as the wind played a bit with his loose fitting clothing and long hair that seemed to give him an other world effect.

Talon would be a bit surprised when he heard another person nearby, having not seen them when he came outside. It was too late to cover his scars and face, this newcomer no doubt having already seen at least a little bit. He would stand straight as he turned to face this stranger, bowing his head in greeting to the man as he did so. He found himself facing a second golden-eyed being, though this one had darker skin than the first he had met. This was also had a different air about him, and the energy Talon was sensing was unlike any he had felt from his time alive. This being was unique in many ways, he could already tell. And yet, here he was in Eldritch with other students. It appeared that Eldritch took more types of creatures than he had initially guessed.
"Yes, I am fine, thank you. Just... trying to properly control my electric arcane energy. I have yet to master it, and it occasionally lashes back to me and gets me instead. Nothing I haven't been through before."
As he spoke, his eyes would slowly fade from their glowing yellow back to their original violet hues. Talon kept averting his gaze now and then, trying to hide the glow as best he could even though he felt it was already far too late. He guessed it didn't matter too much. After all, with how many people were in this Academy it was only a matter of time before such details about him were discovered. The only thing he felt less-than-comfortable about at the current moment were the scars on his arms. His hands were covered by his gloves, but his jacket was folded off to the side, leaving them uncovered and ready to be seen. Its not that he was ashamed or anything like that. He just didn't want too many people asking questions.
"Forgive me, I hadn't realized anyone else was out here. I thought everyone else was asleep. Figured I was the only one with the habits of late-night training."
With the pain in his arm now fully numbed, he would release his hold on it and let it hang down by his side once more. While he had felt the pain of a backfired spell many times, it still hurt enough to cause quite a bit of discomfort. Luckily it didn't last long. If it were lasting pain then he would be less likely to try again, but he was able to handle the pain he got from his spells currently.
"You are here for training? Or were you just taking a walk?"

To say the Nightmare was different than anything else at the school was not exactly wrong. He most certainly was not of reality were a large chunk of population resided. Humans, vampires, werewolves, fairies, witches, etc, etc. He also wasn’t of the spiritual realm or undead realm where ghouls, zombies, and ghost/spirits resided. No he came from a different plane. One that sat somewhere between all realms. A place that existed and did not exist all at once. A place that could and could not be all at once. It was a strange place of existence that was hard to explain and even more so when he reflected that upon himself. How could one tell another they both were and were not all at once and make any sense?
It was a hard task, but one that the Nightmare wouldn’t focus on as he watched the other taking in his looks and scared skin. He also took note of the color changing of the others eyes, watching as that yellow glow shifted back to violet. He would hear the first set of words and would be quiet for a second as he blurred like a mirage and vanished before reappearing to the left side of the other a bit closer as he leaned forward taking in the scars and strange raised marks with narrowed eyes.
“Is this road map of scars the results of you trying to control that electric energy?” he would ask his voice curious and calm though the concern still remained there somehow. As he spoke he would look up at the other, another rather tall gentleman in comparison to himself, but he didn’t mind seem to mind this as he took note of the way the other behaved and even could sense some form of discomfort there though whether it was from himself, trying to hide his powers, or even his scars the Nightmare wasn’t sure and didn’t ask for now as he stood up straight, shaking his head.
“You have nothing to apologize for. You did nothing wrong and I came over here on my own accord. As for everyone being in bed at this time,” he would smile slightly amused at that one. “Some people like early hours or even the dark, so I think there are a few that are still roaming about. Not sure how many though as I am not fully sure of the exact count of types of beings here or which have which sort of time preference each prefer.” That would be interesting data to collect although a bit useless outside of fun facts.
Anyway, as the other released his arm and asked his question the Nightmare would close his eyes as he released a heavy sigh. “No. I came out here because I couldn’t sleep. I…haven’t exactly tried training before, so I am not even sure what that is like.” He wasn’t a fighter and the only training he had was with books or things he observed or interacted with for research purpose. Training outside of that though? It was something that never really crossed his mind before…though after the events of what had been happening lately he wondered if he should invest in something outside of his books. Was it worth the price though? Hm... A thought for another time perhaps.

He looked down at his arms and softly clenched his fists, releasing them soon afterwards as he tested to make sure they were both in working order again. It was true that his arms were scarred beyond most, and the scars were something that couldn't be matched to any kind of physical injury. Most scars were uneven and without a set shape, and just a few were from hunts. He lost track of just how much time of his life was spent with injured arms, and how many times the injuries were caused by himself.
"Yeah... this 'road map' is from my attempts to control energy, though not just electric energy. It is from... well... I lost track of how many different types I have tried to control. I just happened to come across a more reliable source of electric energy is all, that's why I am currently training with it. Once I master it I will move on to different forms. Sorry, I usually wear sleeves to cover them."
While he felt that hiding his scars was useless now, he kept the undersides of his arms turned away from the stranger before him. He still had his metallic pieces that he wanted to keep hidden until he found out what they were meant to be. If someone discovered them, he had decided he would just say they were a mark of his people. But while they were indeed unique to his people, he knew that they had their uses, each person's being unique to them. He had yet to discover what his were used for. And he wasn't even sure if he was ready for that knowledge anyways.
He realized the man before him was a well-mannered student, one who actually had concern for his fellow students. Not only taking his time to check on Talon and make sure he was alright, he even went as far as stating that he had no reason to apologize. This put him at ease, even if just a bit. He still didn't have the best social skills, though he was now at the point where he could at least talk to someone a little easier.
"Ah... no training, huh? I would be lying if I said I wished I could take it easy like that. But, this is what I came here for, so I train every day. Eldritch is my last hope to control my abilities. I don't plan on wasting that chance."
This man with no training told Talon that he wasn't a Hunter. All the Hunter's had to train to hone their skills and combat prowess. While he had spent plenty of time working on his physical skill while hunting and facing off with creatures that wanted to hunt him, Talon's magical abilities were his focus of training. Even Guardians trained a bit in combat. That left Scholars. This man didn't train, paid attention to detail and connected enough dots to conclude Talon's scars, and had a certain knowledgeable air about him, whether it be how he acted or how he seemed to know even just little things like how certain students would be wandering the grounds still. Just the lack of training was enough to tell Talon he was more than likely a Scholar-in-training. The rest was just more evidence towards that.
"Couldn't sleep, and so you came to the training grounds. Even at night that isn't the best place to find peace and quiet. But, to each their own, I guess."

The Nightmare would see the scars and take them in, but not stare for too long as his golden orbs moved upward to look at the other as he spoke. He would tilt his head at the other as curiosity filled him. “Many different types of energies?” he would repeat and then blinking his eyebrows would furrow. “Just how many can you control now and what makes you so determine to conquer something that cause you pain when you try?” What made him want to push through the pain and continue to try? Why put the body through such torture and leave it marked for life by the tries?
The Nightmare could not find a reason that made sense to him, so he waited for the answer his expression softening as he shook his head with a slight smile. “Stop apologizing for doing nothing. It can be uncomfortable showing scars to others, but don’t worry I am not about tell world about this if you are trying to keep it and…” he would give an amused smile as his head leaned to the left a bit and stayed there. “Whatever you're hiding on your arms a secret.” Yeah he had noticed the other was doing his best to keep the underside of his arms hidden, but even so he wouldn’t pry beyond making it known he was aware the other was hiding things. Did he mind this? Not really? While the Nightmare could be quite invasive with his inquiries, as of late he had been calming down a bit and naturally being in his tired state mellowed his usual energy out anyway.
Regardless of that, he took notice that the tense energy from the other was calming a bit suggesting maybe the other was a bit more at ease now. Though why that was the Nightmare would not dig into at that point as more words came to the front.
“Hmph,” the Nightmare would begin. “Well aren’t you a dedicated one. That is impressive, but I wonder what is considered too much in any field of study.” He would tap his lip in thought as he looked towards the dark skies for a moment thinking before looking back at the other. “I am assuming from your words, you have stepped onto the hunter or guardian path. I must admit, I envy you fighters. It is an area I would like to improve in myself even if my strong point is the research and books right now.” He’d give the other a small smirk as he pretty much confirmed any assumption the other might have had about what his pathway was currently. The smirk would last for a few moments before it faded as he became curious once more. “Though why do see this school as your last hope for controlling your powers?” That seemed a bit odd considering how vast the world was and how many endless ways it had to solve problems.
As for those last words…
The Nightmare would look off to the side with an unreadable expression as he was quiet for a moment considering things before his eyes closed a bit as he shook his head. “I believe it was unconsciously intentional.” He would reopen his eyes and look at the other a slight hint of red speckles within the golden eyes. “After all, not all battles are physical my friend.” He would finish his tone of voice shifting to something a bit different from his usual softness as he gave the other a tired, yet bitter smirk for a few seconds. Then he would blink and look away, the strange behavior vanishing just as quickly as it had come as the Nightmare shook his head with a huff. Well that happened...Great...

Talon shrugged his shoulders at the first question this man asked, deciding to answer with complete honesty.
"Couldn't tell you. Of the few of my people who can do such, none of us have been given the chance to actually test just how many we are able to control. I imagine it comes down to how ever many we train with. If we want to manipulate it, we learn how it flows and go from there. As for why I put myself through such pain..."
He held his arm back up and looked at some of the scars. He knew the reason of why he had to go through this pain. It was the same reason he left his homeland and came here. The same reason why the rest of the five percent lived the way they did. Oh he knew the reason, he just found it hard to tell anyone. Despite this difficulty though, he knew that he would have to talk about it at some time. Why not start with just the one person before him?
"The land I come from is filled with a certain people. These people can manipulate energy, like myself. Unlike me, however, most of them can't manipulate multiple types. Only about five percent of us can do that. And we are... well... basically seen as freaks. They teach us what they have to by law; basic schooling, up to high school. After that, they leave us out. They refuse to teach us how to control what we had no choice but to have. And so we try to teach ourselves. It usually ends up the way I have ended up; scarred and desperate. Even now, being here, I have learned only how to control one, and am currently learning another. These scars are just proof that I never gave up."
He told as little as he could while still making sure this man knew his reasons. He had just taken a large step for what he was use to. He had never gone into even that little bit of detail of his past, and felt odd having done so. It was something he would have done sooner or later though. He was glad to have gotten it out of the way. He just hoped it might be easier in the future.
"Ah... you noticed that... well then. Guess that's out the window."
He held his arms out to show the metallic designs on his arms. It had been getting uncomfortable holding his arms like that, and there was no point hiding them if the man had realized something was there.
"Just some marks I was born with. Not quite sure what their purpose is yet though. Another thing to find out while I am here."
The man proves himself to be a Scholar with his deductions and by practically saying so. He knew that those within the Scholar track were smarter than average, and most had the ability to connect dots where others wouldn't. But this man seemed to also be able to do so rather quickly. It at least made life easier for Talon, since he didn't have to explain such things.
"You would be correct. I am studying to be a Hunter. I have some combat experience, as well as hunting experience from my home. Plus it suits me better than the other two. You would be the first Scholar I have directly spoken to. Though, to envy fighters is something I didn't expect to hear. Honing one's fighting abilities, sure. To envy them, to me would be odd. Sure, it fits me. But there is more risk to such roles. Much more... permanent... risks."
The sudden change in the man's attitude and tone threw Talon off, the red hint confirming something had just changed within the stranger. Something that seemed almost... sinister. Not quite hostile, but to Talon not quite welcoming either. This place had so many who were full of surprises and came equipped with darker energies than his own. Then again, he did plan to learn how to manipulate darker energies in the future. But right now he had nothing like what he has felt from some of those within the Academy. It occasionally threw him for quite the loop.

The Nightmare would take in the words the other said, watching as the other looked at his own scars and gave his reasons. When he was done the Nightmare was quiet for a while as his sleepy brain processed it all on a different sort of level as the thing within reacted to what was said. In the end, his eyes would shift to slightly more redder as he hummed a bit.
“I see. How interesting…” he would begin seeming to consider the other for a moment with narrowed eyes before blinking and continuing on. “So you train based on energies. Where do these energies come from?” he would ask his tone calm, but lacking the softness of before as his behavior shifted back to that unwelcoming aura that had thrown the other off just a few moments ago; however, unlike before it didn’t go away as it instead lingered faintly in the air. Not seeming to care, the Nightmare would shift from his spot in and move to a spot before the other.
“This one is not built as a fighter, but he has some skills that I can use if you want to continue to try to fine tune your skills. Perhaps a live and acting target can help you better than a practice dummy, hm?” he would offer as now fully red eyes locked on the other, but despite his aura he wasn’t being hostile as he watched the other with a tired, but calm expression. It seemed that some of the other’s words triggered something within the usually soft Nightmare though for better or worse was yet to be seen. Regardless it seemed the shift was going to stay for a while.
As the other gave up hiding the markings and showing them, red eyes would look down at the markings, a slight tilt of the head the only thing showing his interest for the time being. A very different reaction in comparison to how playful and fully interested the Nightmare had been in the beginning. “Strange markings. We have not seen those in any book as of yet; however, if you want I can see what we can dig up. I would just need to examine them closer and know a little bit more about where you come from to dig deeper and more or less in the right places.” Heh. Even in this odd state of tiredness he couldn’t turn down good research. Even so he wasn’t going to force that on the other. If the guy said no, there was nothing he more he would do on the matter. He understood some people liked to figure things out on their own without help.
That aside, he would nod at the confirmation of pathway the other was taking as he listened to the rest of what he said.
“I must admit, we seem to run into more hunters than anything else around here. I am starting to think, we are the only ones that choose the books at times," he would say with a chuckle before becoming slightly more serious and continuing. "Hmm. So you are the rough and tumbled type versus the soft handed. I like that,” he would say with a small smirk before furrowing his eyebrows and frowning a bit at the part about envy “He envies hunters because they can fight. He wants to fight too, but resists…Always resists…” He would shake his head at that one finding said resistance quite dumb, but what was one to do when the body was needed for survival? Hmph. Prices to be paid.

Talon hesitated at first, deciding not to tell of the Arcane Crystals he used and instead just giving a basic explanation. To give up one's every secret when they just met someone was a rather risky and unwise move. While he felt this person was one that he could at least trust enough not to attack him, he was still uneasy with the darker energy that hung around the man.
"Any outside source of energy that I have access to. I have little of my own magic energy, like the rest of my people. We manipulate energies, but have yet to find a way to actually control them. The only magic we can do with out own energy is the kind that literally anyone can do."
He shakes his head at the Nightmare's words, not fully sure what it meant. He didn't feel comfortable enough with his abilities to use them on another for training. While his magic could whiplash and come back at him, it could also pull out of control and lash at others in the area. He didn't want to bring any harm to those who only wished to help him control his abilities, and felt that doing so might make him less sure of himself.
"No live targets. While I am sure you could easily avoid whatever I throw at you, I do not want to chance anything getting out of hand. If I lose control my abilities could go anywhere, and there is no predicting it."
He looked down at the metallic designs on his arms, those raised sections that seemed unnatural yet were fully natural to his people. The only thing he himself knew of them was that they tied to some kind of power that the person held within them. Each person's markings were different and in different spots. He had never spotted a pattern in them, just that they were all unique to their person.
"You can look. I doubt you will find much, if anything. Where I come from is rather secluded. They allow only the smallest amounts of outside influence, and let hardly anything that they consider part of their culture get out. If there is some knowledge of it outside the town, then it will be few and far between."
He lowered his arms and listened to this man's next words, shrugging a little after they were done. While he had noticed there were plenty of Hunters, that had no impact on his choice of path. He chose Hunter because he knew that was what he would be best at. A life in the forest around his town had made him accustomed to living in such a way. Constantly moving and sometimes fighting, even if it was jut to hunt for food.
"Anyone can fight, if they put their mind to it. Some think fighting is just throwing some punches and magic at your opponent and hope to overpower them. In reality, you have to be smart with what you can do. After a number of battles, your abilities get out there, and opponents might approach you with knowledge of what you can do. That is when you need to be able to adapt, use what you have in ways that you hadn't thought of before. Given the proper creativity and quick thinking, a weaker man could take out a stronger one should he use his own abilities the right way."

Did he expect the other to give up all his secrets in one go? No. If he had, he would’ve wondered a few things about the guy. Namely if he was a fool or not; however, it would seem that question would not be a thing for him today, the hesitation the other gave a more expected response. He would wait patiently enough not bothering to keep the dark energy on him hidden. Was he trying to scare the other off? No. He was simply being himself and if the other couldn’t handle this side of him…well then, he’d certainly have some other information in his basket to nom on, wouldn’t he? Anyway, when he got a basic answer back, he’d take it in with a hum as he folded his arms as a look of thought crossed his face.
“So you take the energy of the world around you, gathered it up, and then use it as your own?” he would begin trying to understand the concept with whatever information the other would give. “Also, I find people’s powers can vary greatly making me wonder what it is you consider as 'magic that anyone can do.' Can you elaborate?” Well at least he seemed to be okay with the general information given, the questions digging further coming due to mild interest in the subject that was set before him. Wherever that conversation went, it would go. Though the next one would make him frown a bit.
“So you rather play cautious than see what you may or may not be able to do?” he would ask not seeming to even bother explaining his previous words without prompting. Instead, he would choose to focus on what was before him rather than all the other details as long as they did not mess with the conversation that is. “Hmph. I do not understand this sort of caution you and this one shares. It makes me wonder if you do not train as if this was a real battle and take all these precautions, then what would happen on the field when you had no choice, but to use your powers or die? Also what if you couldn’t avoid having someone else nearby?” If he was someone that was here to harm, would the kid have reacted and attacked with his full potential using even that which he had no control over? Or would he handicap himself to…how was it put? “protect others from harm?” Hmph. Surely he couldn’t do that all the time right? So why bother trying that now?
That odd logic aside, the Nightmare would indeed move closer to examined those strange marks upon the other. As the other spoke, the Nightmare would listen quietly as he marked the way those marking were laid out on the other and how they looked into memory for later reference. “Ah. So it is something that is hard to obtain. Well, we can still touch base with our resources and the interwebs to see if any of them have even a hint of what these may actually be or do.” After all, even if it was something sealed under a tight lid, there was always some form of leak somewhere if one searched hard enough for it.
In any case, he would stay near the other for a moment longer before backing up to a more respectful distance as the other lowered his arms and the conversation went onto fighting. To what he heard, the Nightmare would close his eyes as a hand went up to pinch the bridge of his nose as he let out a huff.
“You don’t have to tell me that. I know the benefits of fighting, but him?” He’d shake his head before letting his hand drop, now fully red eyes opening and locking on the other grumpily. “I am not sure how you can knock it into his thick head that if he wants to learn how to fight, he has to settle with the fact he is going to hurt people and maybe at times kill. You see the problem?" The whole learning to fight on the other end would be a lot easier if he wasn’t the one that had to be in control for a fight to be truly had. If he left the other side in control and a fight broke out? Well the end results never came out well. All because that one was too afraid to fight and use what he had. All because he was afraid of him. It was dumb really…

Talon nodded at this man’s words. He seemed to catch on to the basic pretty quick. Made it easier on Talon, less to explain. For the most part anyways. He knew there was more to his abilities than just that, but he didn’t feel like explaining it any when he barely understood himself. That could definitely complicate things in the future. Last thing he wanted was people thinking he kept secrets about himself that might harm others.
“The caution is because of the scars. I didn’t get them because I wanted them. I got them because I am still learning how to control my abilities. If I go all out, who knows what kind of damage I might do to myself? Especially when I caused these when I tried to be cautious about it. And the magic I can would be basic levels, the spells that don’t take any single form of energy to perform. Like… lighting a candle or other everyday use spells that take barely any energy.”
He wasn’t sure how well he was explaining it, but he did so as best he could. He didn’t know the technical terms yet, and just did the best with what he did know.
“If I can’t help but have others nearby then I will just train my physical combat. Hunters don’t NEED magics. Sure, makes it easier, but it's not a necessity. Besides, I can always practice outside the city if I need to. Wouldn’t be anything new. And anyways, I’m slowly getting the hang of it. Very slowly… just need to figure out a couple more things and I should have it.”
He closed his eyes and thought for a few seconds. He remembered someone who had visited his hometown quite a bit. Some kind of traveler who seemed interested in trading with the different merchants of the town. Could he have gotten something that might help this man with his research? It was a small chance, miniscule in fact. Yet it was a chance.
“I remember there was a trader who often came into the town. Maybe once every two or three months. Kind fellow. Even traded with u… others.”
He paused before continuing, taking a small breath as he did so.
“It was from him that I learned about Eldritch. He gave me a paper that had info on the Academy. He traded with everyone in town, and he talked about how he came to this city to for his main business. Who knows, maybe you can find him and see if he has a book.”
He nods to the stranger’s words, realizing the truth within them. He went through a point when he didn’t want to hurt anyone, not even animals he needed to hunt for food. The smallest of smiles crept across his face as he remembered this, disappearing almost immediately afterwards.
“I know where he comes from. It is hard to take that first step towards a life of fighting and combat. To bring harm to someone or something for the first time is what really tells one if they are meant for that life. Until then, you don’t truly know.”

A nod would confirm that his thinking on how the other used energy was correct, but whether or not that pleased the Nightmare was hard to say as his red eyes remained on the other, his expression neutral as he kept his thoughts on exactly what he thought of this one hidden. In either case, he would let the energy talk go by for now as he listened to what the other said about his caution. To his words, red eyes would close as he considered it all for a moment before speaking.
“Well, your reasoning is logical enough to not get too upset about it. Being dead or severely damaged to the point you can no longer train or do anything for that matter is certainly a valid reason for caution,” he would nod a bit at this one and then humming would smirk as his eyes reopened. “And you also have a plan for if all else fails and you have no choice, but to fight involving others. Even a plan for training to keep it safe. Very good. It looks like I didn’t give you enough credit and tried to lump you in with the other. My apologizes.” He would give the other an apologetic bow. It was an odd and rare gesture from this side of the Nightmare, but he owned up to his mistakes. Anyway... “I wish you well on your task. You’ll have to show me what you can do once you master it all,” he say with a grin revealing shark like teeth; however, he wasn’t trying to be hostile, but friendly. He wondered if it worked. Oh well. It wouldn't matter unless the other reacted badly to it. Anywho, moving along.
The grin would fade as he tilted his head in thought for a moment at the other as he considered the words on basic magic. After a moment he would speak again. “Hmm, you say basic magic doesn’t take any form of energy, but…” He would look to the side where a small stick happened to be. Using his mind, he would pick it up with a small amount of energy from his mind, the invisible hand grabbing the item and bring it to his physical hand. Grasping the object, he would narrow his eyes at it for a moment, the stick at first seeming not to change at all before it began to smoke at the tip and then turn red as a small flame appeared on its end and it begin to slowly burn. With that done, the Nightmare would keep an eye on the flame before looking at the other. “How is it not a single form of energy? All that, basic as it was, stemmed from one energy source for me at least. Is it different for others and the world?” Heh. It seemed like he quite enjoyed talking on the way these energies worked…or maybe he just liked talking to the guy it was hard to say.
In any case, wherever that went the conversation would eventually veer away from energy and move into research. Oho? What was this? The Nightmare would hum at the words said as he looked up towards the sky and tapped his lip in thought with one blue painted nail. “He comes to the city, eh? Perhaps this would be a good source to hunt down for a book or two. Any defining features to find this potential lead?” he would ask, his tone calm but somewhat business like. Like someone who was taking on a job rather than asking for information casually. Odd? Maybe, but that was just how he was right now. Besides, maybe without saying anything they were really hammering out an unspoken business contract.
That aside, he would raise his eyebrows curiously at the other's last words. “You too would not kill at one point? Hmph. How did you ever get over it and find out this was the sort of trade for you?” Due to the being in control right now, the idea of not killing was just bizarre considering where he had come from…

"Well you see, that is what I mean. Little spells like that don't require a single form of energy. Just about any form can be used to accomplish that. Spells like that are the one's I am able to do myself without any source of outside energy. Well, so long as they also don't take a large amount of energy. What I can do myself is pretty simple, just strict is all."
As they spoke, he realized there was a way the man before him could help him train. It wasn't through using him as a dummy or anything like that, but something he had been missing and had yet to find time to get. His magic was rather strict on how it was used. He could change his energy to match the natural flow of other energies. He used this to make a desire path for the energy to flow. This was how he manipulated energies around him. Unlike most arcane energies, he couldn't make it follow a path of his own design, he had to mimic the natural flow. And that was where his problem was.
"I do have something to ask you, something you might be able to help me with. Are you able to get information, or a book maybe that can tell me what the natural flow of different energies are? If I had that then I might be able to get a better hold of my magic. Otherwise it'll just be a big game of trial and error. And I've kinda gotten tired of that."
He thought about the question for a second. It had been almost a year since he had seen the man. He remembered the traveler usually had a rather large pack, and a smaller straw hat. Besides that, there was only one thing he could think of to point him out.
"Look for a man with a bright blue fake eye. I think that was the main thing that stood out about him. Dunno how he got it, but he sure talked a lot about it."
There had indeed been a time when he didn't want to kill. He had felt it was too close to what the other Enerzians had done to the Fives. It was hard for him to take that first kill, but when he did, he knew the difference between the two.
"Simple, honestly. I realized that it was either that or something would kill me instead. I lived in the wilderness, with a small group. If I didn't learn to kill then the constant dangers around would have done so instead. And now, I'll kill to end other dangers throughout the land and to make money. When you lived a life like I did, you learn not to take certain things to heart, such as why or why not to kill something. You just learn to do so by necessity."

“Is it really that simple to do such things?” The Nightmare had to wonder considering that if any energy form could do such things, then why was it that the mind or spirit energy alone that could pick up things without touching them? Or fires being started only by fire type energies or thoughts of heat? He was pretty sure an ice like energy could not form fire in its natural form. Hmmm…Perhaps the other spoke of something more general. Well whatever the case, the Nightmare wouldn’t dig further into that rabbit hole for the time being. Shaking his head, he would blink in a slow cat like fashion as he shifted his weight to his left leg. “Well all powers come with some catch simple or not. The bigger they are the more complex the price. Even we have some abilities like that.” If he went all out on something and didn’t keep his usage of his powers in check, it would be something similar to a physical wound done upon to him. Unlike the other who may be able to push through his wounds, the Nightmare’s wounds required rest. So on some fronts he could understand the other and these energies spoken of. On other fronts, he had more questions due to being curious in the potential of mastering and using said energies to their fullest.
And what was this?
“Hmm?” the Nightmare would tilt his head one way as he listened and then the other as he considered the request. “We do not have such resources currently at our disposal. We can understand wanting to know more and we can find what you seek even if we do not currently have it…on a small condition. Would you allow us to study your progress in the matter for our own data collection?” It was an odd request and one the other could poke at if he was unsure what the Nightmare was asking. The other could even refuse the request. Though how that would impact getting the information he sought was questionable. Either way, for the moment the Nightmare did not seem against or for the idea as he simply waited for an answer to determine where to go from there. Wherever that went, the Nightmare would eventually find himself looking off to the side as he considered what the other said about the man for a few moments in silence. “Hmmm..a bright blue fake eye. Got it and I will keep my own eye out for that detail,” he would say with a small chuckle before that amused nature would die down and he would raise an eyebrow at what was said. “You say you kill out of necessity now, so tell me what is your view on those that don’t do it for necessity?”
