welcome to Eldritch Academy
In a world of myths and mysteries, the pinnacle of the magical academies exists. Eldritch Academy offers education to all ages and species but specializes in the study and training of one's innate mystical capabilities, often called Eldritch Energies, Powers, or Unknowns, but more formally known as their Talent. However, tensions run high with the nations only holding a fragile peace as the Talents that rival the epitomes of technology change the balance of power.
With the more recent uprising of evil Shades and introduction of combat-oriented programs into Talent-focused schools, nations grow more aggressive towards one another. The demand for resources grows, and skirmishes at the border of Arka and Mistere become more frequent. Monsters run into the nations from the Wildes, terrorizing villages and cities. The need for trained or in-training Hunters and Guardians has never been more urgent.

How long had it been since she last slept? A full twenty four hours, at least. She had pulled an all nighter the night before, rigorously studying her notes and personal book the moment she had completed her homework. She had been studying the same unit for weeks now, going one page at a time until she had memorized it. Her family line had a photographic memory, but Inglisse never wanted to rely too heavily on that trait, which would be careless. Thus, she took extra notes, tried experiments, and even dared to add her own notes and research to the Book of Baskerville, just as her ancestors had done.
The unit she had been researching was the mulberry plant, which had numerous natural healing properties and enough biological features to be known that would last an average student a couple months worth of study were they dedicated enough. It was listed under the note, Alchemy, which blanketed everything from atoms, to energy, to matter, to basic elements. The natural world at its finest. The note went over the chemical makeup of the plant and also detailed a little of its psyche, or soul. Though weak and non-sentient, the soul of a mulberry plant was also an interesting subject of research, and one that Inglisse had been furthering with her own simple experiments. Mister Peckings, the small cute creature primarily made up of a rosebud and a couple other body parts snoozed peacefully on her nightstand, its being held together by a mulberry plant’s soul.
Within moments of going to bed, Inglisse dozed off instantly. She had left the Book of Baskerville open and on her study desk on the other side of the room. Esialeth, her roommate, was not present so early in the evening, and likely would not bother her notes anyway, being a silent and peaceful soul.

Oras walked through the halls of the school. Night had fallen and the moon shone through the windows. The air sparkling around him as it instantly cooled down to the point where specks of snow flickered their way down behind him. With everyone in bed he didn't have to worry about people slipping on ice, or giving stupid complaints as to how cold it was. People always seemed to find something to bitch about. No one could just stay content, always needing to blame someone for something stupid. He sighed in frustration as he looked at the notebook he had picked up recently. He discovered it was Inglisse, mainly due to the handwriting. However looking inside he noticed it was all math notes. Seriously he thought. Math is so pointless. What could it possibly be used for? Sure he did math automatically, and subconsciously. But that was just it! He didn't even think the numbers when he did math because the knowledge was so imbedded into his soul that it became instinct. Sure there were careers that required math, but he didn't see Inglisse going on one of those career paths.
He flipped through the pages a bit more before he fell into boredom and flipped it close with a sigh. He walked into the common room of the Sage dorms, and moved down the hall. Once in front of Inglisse's room he opened the door quietly and walked inside. His summoner was in bed, her covers up to her head. That made things easier for him, as he couldn't really see her at that point. He walked over to her desk and put her notebook down. Before walking away however, he noticed her strange book... He checked to see if her roommate was here (yes he only checked after seeing the book), and when he confirmed there was no one, he began to read.
At first he was simply curious as to why she was so attached to this book. However, he soon gained an interest. Evidently, this plant he was reading about had potent healing powers which truly intrigued him. So much so, that he stood up, got some fresh paper and sat back down. He made a makeshift pen of ice, and warmed the tip of it, taking some wood nearby and burning it into ash. He then created some liquid ice and made a little concoction, makeshift ink, and took a few notes. It's name, what it could do. What would nullify it's effects, what it was best used on and what not. What mixed, what didn't. What it was used for in alchemy. It's soul and what it's effects could do, as well as what could possibly damage it. Eventually he had written down a full page of notes. This was an interesting book he thought. He wondered what the next page contained.
Oras turned the page and saw some information on... Weed? He rolled his eyes and pushed the page back to... Wait. He narrowed his eyes. What was this- Ash? This wasn't... He flipped the page again and figured it out. Where pattern and logic stood strong, the truth wasn't far off... At least with most things. He looked at Inglisse, realizing what he did and closed his eyes. He pulled himself away, and moved to his memory of the page. When he imagined it, a few parts blurred due to somewhat lack of interest but not too many segments blurred, he began writing down with his eyes closed on a new piece of paper. His movements were slow, and it took him a full hour, but he succeeded. After he wrote it down and opened his eyes he sighed... And then pulled over more paper and began taking really detailed notes and research on more pages. This book. Had his attention. All the way until sunrise.

Inglisse slept soundly for once, the tiresome and sleepless night she had before having taken its toll on her. It was hit or miss if she would sleep without night terrors or familiar voices keeping her awake, but at least this night she managed. The alarm sitting next to Mister Peckings woke both her and the small winged and kitten-pawed rosebud creature. Sunlight was creeping in through the sage green curtains. A small hand reached out as the still groggy Inglisse went to stroke the rosebud creature’s soft dove wings. It seemed pleased by the petting and pawed at her hand.
Only upon really opening her amber eyes and gazing around the room did Inglisse spot Oras at her desk. The realization jolted her awake, making her sit up hurriedly in her bed. She was wearing warm pajama pants and a tanktop to sleep in, thus was presentable enough to not demand him leave the room right away. If he just wanted to use her room and desk as a quiet place to read or study, he could do so during the light hours with permission. However, it quickly registered what he was reading and doing. A silent anger washed over the girl, who slowly got out of bed and walked towards him. “Good morning, Oras. Might I ask when you received permission to just sneak in a woman’s dorm room at night and look through her personal research and notes?” she asked, an edge of malice to her voice. Reaching over, she briskly but gently picked up the Book of Baskerville, frowning as she realized the page she had been on was no longer there, and likely was forever gone given the nature of the book. “Vesp juen rava,” she whispered a short incantation, which instantly closed the book shut.
Observant amber eyes noticed the notes he had been taking. “What gives you the right to help yourself to what isn’t yours?” she asked, angry venom still lacing her voice, her eyes narrowed at the atranoch.

His hand moved like lightning, writing down more and more notes. Unlike humans, he didn't need sleep or food. Not only this, but his arm wouldn't get sore from writing on paper for hours and hours on end. Therefore: He was still writing at the same speed he started with. The result was many pages filled with notes. Some of them containing almost everything written in the strange book if the topic was interesting enough. Most of what he'd been seeing had information and detail that required some experimentation. However, luckily for Inglisse, the experimentation was minor, and done on non sentient and non living beings.
He heard her begin to wake up and decided to hurry with this last page. He wrote faster, his focus too great to notice her experimental plant, nor her and the plant interacting with one another. He could almost feel her anger as she saw him and he finished writing notes on the page he was one before putting down his makeshift pen and leaning back, giving her more than enough room to take the book. "Good moooooorning my dear summoner~" he said with a satisfied smile on his face as he looked at the ceiling. He turned to her and looked at the venom in her eyes. "Jeez, I wondered if you'd be upset but that's a little far don't you think?" She went from her greeting to asking him who gave him permission to sneak into a woman's room and go through her personal research and notes. He picked up her math book and tossed it towards her, in a gentle manner and in a way she could catch it easily. "I was returning this to you dummy. You dropped it in the halls, so I returned it to you. When I got here I saw the book and was curious as to what the very strange and mystical book had to say."
He folded his arms behind his head as he looked back up to the ceiling, leaning the chair back and resting his crossed legs on the desk. "Then I found out the hard way that your book is magic and changes order.. Very interesting if you ask me. Do you have a method of getting around that? It feels like it's for stopping intruders only.. Oh yeah," he pulled out the first three pages he made for the one she was on. Each were filled top to bottom with text on both sides. "The first page was before I wrote everything down. After meditating once I knew how the book worked, I wrote nearly everything in greater detail on the other two pages, so if you did lose any info, there's a high probability it wasn't the most important information. In fact I'd guarantee it." After handing her these books he started sorting the rest of the pages into neat stacks. "By the way: Where is that wonderfully annoying spoiled brat of a roommate of yours? Kind of odd she wouldn't be sleeping don't you think?"

Inglisse kept her amber eyes fixed on him as he greeted her and tossed her notebook back at her. She caught and recognized it as the notebook she took to her math and science classes, both of which were essential for completing her mastery. She listened in silence, her eyes narrowing as he mentioned taking notes and losing her place. She was internally relieved she still had something remaining from her page, in case she could not find it again, but knew she would have never needed them if the atranoch had minded his own business.
He had caught on that the magical component of the book was a defense mechanism meant to stop intruders from reading it. If he had caught that early on, why did he continue? “You’ll leave the notes here with me, and you won’t meditate on them,” she said in a commanding tone, setting the math notebook down on her bed. She really had no words-- she was too angry to muster any. If she had thought about it at the time, she likely would have attempted to close the connection the atranoch had to the world of Skiagis through her. Fortunately for him, her mind did not go there.
“Get out of my room,” she demanded in a soft voice laced with venom, ignoring his question regarding her roommate, Esialeth. She did not owe him any answers, especially since he took the liberty of looking into something that was personal and precious to her. She could only hope he found scientific and magical notes, and nothing on her family members, her past, or Sacramentum.

After the glacier atranoch had sorted out the pages of notes, and stacked them neatly in a pile, he folded them up for easier storage. He turned to look at Inglisse and found that, she was still glaring at him.. He also noticed, for the first time, the intensity in her eyes. She was that angry at him? He'd almost say she was hateful towards him.. For reading the book? If it were her diary or something he'd understand, but this was just another book full of notes. He and his prior summoner had stumbled across such things in the library. Strange and enchanted books containing mythical information that no one else had recorded. So why on earth would she be so hateful towards him? Was there something personal written in this book? If that was true, then why was something personal in this book full of notes on magical objects and creatures and spells?
Then she gave him a command which caused him to blink. Pure surprise and shock coating his face from the unexpected response. He at least expected a lecture followed by a thank you for at least trying to make up for his initial mistake and underestimation of the book's capabilities. But here she was telling, commanding him to leave the notes he worked on the entire night, and to not meditate on what he had read so he could understand it? This not only made no sense at all to the atranoch, but it was insulting. For her to tell him he couldn't think about or meditate on what he had just read and learned?
Then she told him to leave. This was the last straw in his mind. His eyes narrowed, his face turning cold and hard. He stood up and threw his arm out. Immediately the room was chilled, frost covering everything including Inglisse. Ice shooting out of the ground, pushing the door shut and freezing it solid. He stared at his summoner. "No. I shall not." His eyes flashed with a white glow. "I see something of interest, do a little reading on what appears to be notes on objects, life forms, and magic. And you would hate me for being curious? If that was your diary, or something personal to you I can understand why you would hate me for doing so, and to give out an absurd order as to not meditate on what I had learned from that book. Which tells me that it is somehow containing something personal to you, or else you would not react in such a manner. You are not acting normally: You show no logic, only emotion. Which while it's a nice change, it's sad to see you can't control yourself in your emotions. And you expect me to cower like a dog and obey you because you SAY so?"
Oras moved up to Inglisse, the temperature dropping down to the twenties as he did so. "No. I shall not leave. Not until you give me one logical reason for me to leave, and an even better reason for me not to keep the notes that I had written, let alone meditate on what I read."

She did realize the overarching logic rather quickly-- she had revealed too much with her emotions. She could have allowed Oras to continue believing it was nothing more than a science and magic book. However, her fear of him having possibly found a page with personal information on her family, her own notes and pages she had written, or Sacramentum had driven her reaction. Well, it was too late to backpedal and play it off like that. It did not help that it was morning, and besides Mister Peckings, Oras reading through her book was the first thing she encountered. There had not been enough time for her to gain her composure first.
“...Tch,” Inglisse murmured at his rejection of her command. There was no point in really lying, else she would only make him even more curious and likely to read through it again. Still, like hell was she planning to explain the reality or history of the Book of Baskerville. At his freezing over of the room and her with small bits of frost and harsh ice to shut the door, the girl instinctively ignited one of the talents from a past family member, long since trapped within her. Her body was coated in a thin layer of white flames, melting away the ice that had formed on her while simultaneously keeping her warm in the chilled room. He demanded a logical reason, which was easy enough to give. It being that he was in a women’s dorm room without permission, and she could very easily use the excuse that she wanted to change and put on more presentable clothes.
However, the reasonable size of Inglisse knew she at least owed him a small explanation for her anger. She would have expected the same of him. “It is more or less like a diary,” she explained with an edge to her voice. It was pretty much the truth. “I write my own notes in there, in between the research pages.”
The notes she wrote were not of her life, emotions, and inner thoughts so much as her personal research and condition. Still, that technically counted. He had already made it clear that he would understand if it was a diary or personal. Hopefully he would hold himself to his word. The fewer who knew about the tragedy that happened so many years ago, the better.

To say this situation was not desired by both parties would be the most obvious understatement of the year. Inglisse clearly had something she was hiding from him. Something that he was guessing was personal to her in one way or another. Meanwhile Oras stands defending his actions, and attempting to open her up even a little bit. Maybe not to force information out of her, but to hopefully understand her a little more and try bridging the gap between the two. Atranoch's were not servants. Elementals were, as they were the Elentros equivalent to animals. Atranoch's were allies, partners, counselors and the like.
Oras was not amused, but neither was he infuriated. Frustrated yes, but he was keeping that frustration in check. Had he been like the inferno atranoch's, he might have just exploded on her. But he was keeping himself calm and controlled, as he knew she had reasons behind her actions. He had made his stance, despite the fact that she seemed very displeased with his choice. When she ignited into white flames his expression didn't change, though he did take note of that. So her talent was a unique form of fire then? If that were the case he should be careful if the two entered a truly hostile fight, as she could use his weakness against him. Though he wondered if that was only part of her talent, or if she had multiple talents. Regardless of the possibilities and what ifs, the result was that she had burned the frost off of her and was most likely keeping warm.
She finally spoke up. When she did there was an edge to her voice, her eyes narrowed. He wasn't sure if it was because she didn't want to explain it, because she was still angry with him, or some other reason. If she was still angry at him there was no reason she should be. Even if it was something personal, he had no method of knowing. It was an honest mistake. Speaking of personal, she told him that the book was in fact, more or less, like her diary. Oras' eyebrow rose in disbelief. He absorbed the cold in the room, cooling him further both physically and mentally, while thawing out the room itself. He crossed his arms as he looked at her. "So now you're telling me that a book filled from one corner to the other with notes on objects, sentient creatures, souls and their powers and properties, is a diary for you? I'll wait and listen to the part where it's personal." She continued to speak, stating how she writes her own notes in between the pages and such. Oras held his gaze on her for a good minute. She seemed to be telling the truth but... It, just didn't add up. Her notes in the 'encyclopedia' like book were personal? Were they notes on her life? On the subjects? He was so confused as to what she was referring to.
"I don't understand how notes in that book are personal. It sounds as if they are just ordinary notes to me." He would put a pause here, and if she tried to argue with him, counter him, or tell him to screw off, he would hold up a hand, signaling her to wait a moment. "But: I understand and acknowledge that I may never understand unless you tell me what those notes are. You may not think so, but I respect privacy. I promise to stop looking through it, but I do have a request in return. I am in fact interested in certain subjects in the book. If you are ok with it, would you mind sharing notes and information from the book that isn't your personal notes with me? I personally see no reason for you to deny this as it satisfies both our needs. Seeing as you'd monitor how much info I learn and what, and I would continue to study it in an indirect fashion. Sound good?"

“Well it’s at least relieving to hear you didn’t stumble on anything besides the research,” she stated, her white flames dwindling down as he re-absorbed the cold and frost he had produced. Was he really so unintelligent to not understand her first statement? In between pages she had written personal notes; she owed him no explanation on what they were specifically. It was self explanatory that “personal notes” could be anything that was meant for her and nobody else. Sharing would defeat the purpose of a “diary”, even if the book was so much more than that.
He stopped her from speaking before she could continue, asking if he could have access to some pieces of information. Perhaps she would not mind sharing basic information; the notes written that anyone could find in a science book. Her family’s personal research and additions to that basic information, however, were not something she was so keen on sharing. She was still angry that he had invaded her privacy in such a way, but at least had cooled off enough to reasonably consider the request. “Respecting someone's privacy shouldn't require a request in return. But fine. With my permission, I will let you see some of the information on science, history, and magic. Nothing else,” she agreed in a low tone, still not happy, but willing to compromise for both their sakes. The last thing she wanted was for him to steal or sneak the book and read it on his own if they did not reach an agreement. He had more or less found a way to blackmail her-- to request some information in return for not reading the book himself. She did not have enough trust in him to not take it when she was not looking if she had denied his request.

Standing there he listened and watched as she seemed to fully calm down, stating how she was grateful he didn't stumble onto more than he already did. Her flames vanished too which was a nice change. He sighed as the tension in the atmosphere died out. He always enjoyed combat, and he knew better than many that combat did not always mean physical or magical duels. Many times it was a war of words. Convincing the other not to attack, negotiation, interrogation, distractions. In a way he enjoyed this, and although it wasn't his preferred method of learning about her, he was learning. For whatever reason she chose not to tell him about her book, and how personal the book was to her. She failed to think ahead. And when he looked at it, and she found out she panicked. Meaning, that while she was calm, calculative, and persuasive most of the time. If she was caught by surprised, and if something personal she wishes to be hidden was close to exposure, she had an ugly side.
When Inglisse showed that she didn't like him demanding a request in return for his respecting her privacy he sighed and shook his head. "Inglisse. No. I'm not demanding anything, and it isn't required. It's a request and nothing more. You can deny it if you wish and I shall still respect your privacy. Nevertheless, I had made the request in the hopes that, you as someone who enjoys and respects research I've noted, would understand my request. Notice it doesn't violate your privacy. And accept it. If there's one thing I've learned works with you Inglisse, it is logic and reasoning. Which, is one thing I respect you for... Still a little dull, but that can be addressed later."
Oras turned and looked at the book again. "Though I would suggest putting some sort of lock, whether physical or magical on your book. Even if it changes pages every page turn, it can't prevent people from not reading it. And if it's that important, then you should definitely apply more safety measures."

“Then don’t say “in return”,” Inglisse responded, her amber eyes sharp. He was the one who insinuated it was something she had to do in return for him keeping out of it for the most part. At least it was fair enough of him to reiterate what he actually meant. While she was tempted to not allow him near her precious book still, she knew that logically he had her trapped. There was no good reason for her not to share parts she was comfortable sharing with him. Especially if she picked and choosed what bits of information he was allowed to receive. “Fine, I’ll share notes from the book on information I am okay with you seeing,” she replied with a sigh, hating the entire situation.
He went onto state she would do better taking more safety measures with the book. Perhaps she was right, she had been a little careless in leaving it out. She had grown too comfortable; after all, most students did not sift through anything that looked like a textbook that was left out, especially in someone else’s dormitory. That, and her roommate, Esialeth, seemed like the type to respect her privacy. “Sure, I’ll hide it in my undergarment drawer; that’ll keep you out,” she said, taking the jab at the mild awkwardness she observed he held around females. It was sarcasm of course. She did have charms and such to seal it and even create bookmarks, but those always required a lot of energy or expensive (or rare) ingredients.
Noticing the tension die down in the room, the small rosebud creature flapped its wings in unsuccessful flight and hopped on tiny paws across the bed towards Inglisse. It was pleased that the room was no longer as cold, but still desired the warmth of its human owner.

Oras shrugged with a chuckle when she pointed out that he said the words 'in return', and thus translated it the way she had. While it was true Oras did feel like she shouldn't be so self guarded, he didn't mean to give the message she had received. "A simple miscommunication is all Inglisse. Don't take it too hard~." This girl was quite the handful he'd noticed. Though, to be fair, he was a handful for her a few days ago. He was only recently learning how to adjust to her. Which actually pulled up a question in his mind. When she spoke however, he knew he'd need to address it later. Hearing her vocally accept his request and offer information, even if it was hand picked, was good. Although if all she gave him was worthless and boring information, they'd be making a full circle to this conversation again. He nodded. "I appreciate it Inglisse."
There was much progress they had to make before they reached the ideal summoner/atranoch relationship. Trust and faith. Supporting one another. Helping each other out. It wasn't an easy bond to forge, but if he was going to be stuck here with her then it was something he planned on forging nonetheless. When she mentioned storing it in the drawer with her underwear, he knew she was toying with him but it was still disturbing to him. Especially since the image popped in his mind without his approval, though he quickly dismissed it. "Pfft. Nice to know you think of all types of people to guard your book from," he said in a mocking tone. She'd know he wasn't serious, but still.
Suddenly something popped into his field of vision. A... He didn't, even know what to call it. A rosebud, with the wings of a dove... The wings of a.. His eyes narrowed as he examined the creature more. Specifically, the section where the wings attached to the body itself. Somehow the dove wings were connected seamlessly to the plant. How was that even possible? Though admittedly, he'd seen stranger things. "I've never seen any creature that crosses between classifications. How does a plant have the appendages of a bird; dove, and a mammal; cat? Where did you even find this creature?" Oras asked her.

Her anger was ebbing away slowly; perhaps because for once he was being fairly civil and not giving her a reason for her anger to persist. She was not much of an angry or hot-tempered individual. She was generally patient, only the shock of him going through the one possession she so deeply cherished and risking him learning too much had driven her to such emotion.
She dismissed his mocking statement, being in a better mood overall, but still not one for casual banter. The tiny rosebud creature pranced its way across the bed, flapping its two wings on each bound in failed flight. Perhaps… the small creature would be something of a test, to judge just how much science the atranoch could tolerate. He already was opposed to her summoning him for research purposes, after all.
Picking up the creature gently in her hands, she held it close, noting its want for warmth. She had filed down its thorns to keep herself from getting poked, but constantly had to maintain them as it grew. “This is a creature made of sorcery and magic. I named it Mister Peckings for its docile nature~” she explained softly and subtly smiling down at the creature while stroking its dove wings. Its rosebud head swiveled towards Oras, clearly sensing his presence despite obviously having no eyes to see him or nose to smell him.

With all the anger bit over with, and moving on to this newest topic of a... Plant, bird, cat thing. Oras could have been told this was a completely new species recently discovered, and would have moreso believed her if she told him it came from another dimension. Not the abstract dimension, but just a different one. However, instead of telling him any of this she told him that it was made from sorcery and magic. He was silent for a moment as he listened to this. He stroked his finger along the area where the dove wing and the plant stem connected, and then the connection of it's paws and stem. "And where may I ask, did you procure the materials needed for such a creation? Surely not from a living creature?"
Then a thought entered his mind. If she was experimenting on taking the parts of creatures to make something new... His head turned to look at the book again. Anyone with eyes and half a brain could see his own was beginning to work double time. Taking evidence he'd seen thus far, theories, guesses, personality, attitude and responses into account as he tried to find a link or connection. Trying to make sense of this. Of course, it all hinged on the idea that she was using live creatures to do this... He hoped that was not the case, but if it was she had better have a good reason for doing this. To sacrifice two living breathing beings to create one new one?? No. That was revolting in his eyes. And if that turned out to be the case... Well, one step at a time. He didn't even know the condition of the animals. If they weren't dead they could have been near death. Still... This was creating theories in his mind as to why she wouldn't let him read the book. He'd need to meditate on this...

“The school’s science labs,” Inglisse replied truthfully. One reason she attended the great Eldritch Academy was for its resources. For projects and sometimes personal research, she had access to the school’s supplies be it tools, elements, or various components. The wings and paws she had taken were more or less the equivalent to a dissection kit, although magically preserved to keep fresher than formaldehyde would. They were ingredients typically used in brewing and alchemy classes. She had taken the strand of rosebud stem from a school-maintained garden.
She took note of his eyes darting to her book. It was true that she did have research on Mister Peckings in the book, but it was far from complete nor was it anything she wished to share. The thing was held together with the soul of a mulberry plant. Plant souls were not always alike and quite different from the souls of other species, notably intelligent ones. Mulberries seemed more characteristic than a basic small rosebush soul, and were much more hardy she had discovered when it came to binding components together to produce some form of ‘life’. Of course, she had not created life, but she had assembled life. If she could further such research, she hoped to get to the point of creation. If she could create, she could potentially re-create those who had fallen. “Why do you ask?” she questioned, continuing to stroke Mister Pecking’s soft wings. Her next step in his research was finding some magical means for him to fly, but she had yet to complete such a spell that would allow it for long term.
