Sick Days(private)

Upon hearing Jers’ voice and finally seeing him Ozaki blinked sluggishly in surprised. As drugged up as he was right now, he wasn’t really capable of more than mild surprise. He’d open his mouth, a faint rasping of air produced only, then he had to a coughing fit seized him, and with it about a dozen crystal slivers. Blood spattered lightly across his sheets, adding to the spots that echoed previous failures to get to the bowl before coughing. 

Right… Talking would only make it worse. I forgot. His internal “voice” was extremely slow, pawing for the next word as blindfolded when he had to look for something important. Ozaki lifted the arm that didn’t have a needle put into it, a black gloved hand steadily going to pick off the small shards of Rosite mana crystal that even he would dare not touch with his hands, despite it coming from his own lungs. I should have gone for the bowl… He muttered in complaint to himself in his head. 

Why are you here? He’d finally ask, recalling that was a question to be asked in the first place. Not accusatory, just confused.

It wasn’t so much that it hasn’t been in east reach, it was that even so much as leaning over to cough into it was a trial for him. His movements were slow as molasses from the painkillers, but without them would be a far worse state. His lungs and trachea had basically been put through the shredder setting on a blender. If he were human he’d be dead ten times over by now.

You too. Ozaki would mutter in his mind. As in, Jers should also talk like that. No need for both of them to be hurting right now. Not that he was hurting though. But it was unpleasant.

Well… You’re already here. Bit late to ask that. His tone was not accusatory, just matter of factly.

Its fine. I’m fine. Got everything that I need. Ozaki would say. Blood, drugs, and random TV shit playing in the background. He wasn’t entirely sure how much he’d remember later, but it was better than just sitting in bed doing nothing.

He’s probably curious what the crystals are if he doesn’t already know. Oh right. Head speaky thoughts. There’s a book on the…. Bookshelf. Over there. On top of it. You can read the chapter on Rosite mana crystals if you want to know more. Don’t really feel like explaining it all, even if it is just in my head. Long story short parasitic crystals that leech the life and eldritch energy of a host. Kills most... Just an unpleasant week for me though once a year. 

You have no idea. Ozaki would mentally comment at the mention of shit luck. Of all the bloody sires to turn me, it had to be the one with this kind of shit in their system. I got luck enough not to get dead. But geez if that’s not exactly where it ends. Buuuut then again isn’t his trait this dumb ahoge? Usually its only one trait passed on… But the alternative is too ludacris to even consider.

The book Jers picked up would speak about the crystals traditionally being used as poisons or in certain dark rituals. Their growth required a host, and their existence usually meant that someone had died. If he weren’t undead already, he’d be dead. As it was- his vampiric healing magic had done pretty much the only thing it could… Ensure that the crystals, when they grew, grew inwardly rather than outward. If they did the former odds are his heart likely would have been long since skewered. If you cracked Ozaki’s lungs open they’d look like a geode right now.


Ozaki would cough heavily, then find that further coughing wasn’t doing anything to move the crystal up his trachea, and now it was just lodged. Ozaki let out a weary sigh, or at least tried to. It sounded more like a choked garble. And then reached a sharply clawed hand up and cut a two inch slit into his throat. A tracheotomy of sorts, and pulled out a golf ball sized cluster of Rosite Mana crystal with two fingers on the gloved hand.

With as much pain medication he was on, he didn’t even feel or react greatly to the self-done procedure. Just something that had to be done. He pressed the skin together so at least it would form a scab using his vampiric healing factor…. Which was currently working overtime on the many many internal wounds, but could at least do this much. It was fine if it took awhile to heal though. He might need to cut it open again at some point anyways.

Oh right… That had probably been squicky to watch. Sorry Jers… But there is no pain, really. Not with the shiz I got. You can go if you want. I have it all handled here. No need to waste your time. Everything he needed was here. Having another person was not needed right now. They’d only be made severely uncomfortable as Jers already had been.

Either that or my inhaler was dosed as a kid, only other thing that would make sense for how it got in my lungs. But no way that’d be the case. I was human then. Yuuto’s all about humanity and all the shit. Dat guy can go fuck himself.

Another other day Ozaki might have insisted Jers leave. Not wanting him to worry over him and this state. But as chill as he was right now… He wouldn’t care even if Jers worried. He was choosing to stay and watch this mess if he did. Ozaki would pause the TV before him using the remote. Sure. This show was giving me the munchies in the worst way anyways. Watching so many people die made a strange part of his brain hunger for that flavor he all too often denied himself for the safety of others. He wasn’t even hungry, but cravings did not always care whether or not you were hungry.


At the mention of his ahoge adding character Ozaki would just blow a raspberry at that. Kind of playful… Ish. Though it was hard to tell with as out of it as he looked.
